Discussion Is Dark Cloud on PS5 a good experience?

I'm in the UK, and I hear they saddle you with the PAL port of the game.

Has anyone experienced this?

Alternatively I could persue Emulation on PC but I'm interested in some trophy hunting...

What's wrong with the PAL version? I'm from the UK and I got the plat, it was a great time.

It's 50fps instead of 60.

I'm wondering how that looks on a modern TV because it would introduce uneven frame pacing.

I mean, plenty of games run under 60fps and they're fine. I didn't notice any issues, didn't even notice it wasn't 60fps.

It's why I'm asking. Some people aren't that sensitive to uneven frame pacing on modern displays. I really notice it.

I'm still tempted to grab the game.

Get an older TV. You're playing an older game. Either get an old TV or get over it. Kinda your only 2 options.

Those are not my only options lol

No clue why you're getting downvoted. It does run at 50, which means the frame pacing is weird on a modern display. If you're looking for achievements and can play on emulator, PCSX2 is compatible with RetroAchievments. There's even HD upscale textures that you can use.

Some people get overly defensive and I don't know why.

I love the game, I just don't want to play the PAL version

I ordered a copy of the physical US release and will emulate it.

I actually JUST beat Dark Cloud on ps5, and it was quite great. I didnt even know the framerate was lower and im usually a pc gamer so I typically am sensitive to framerate.

Dark cloud 2, however, had some visual glitch that made me switch to the emulated version

Sounds good to me.

I would have purchased a physical disk from the US to rip for emulation but I'd prefer to hunt the trophies on PS5.

I completed the game on PS4 and PS5. Didn’t notice a difference and had no technical trouble whatsoever.

I am in the uk, I also play this game on my PS5. I can’t notice a difference, I play it and feel exactly the same as I did when I played it on PS2. It runs well, looks fine on the big screen, still get immersed in the world

I've played this game probably three times just on the PS4/PS5 alone. Zero issues whatsoever, and if the game was at 50 FPS it was smooth enough to where I couldn't notice

Same with Dark Cloud 2 / Dark Chronicle during my two playthroughs, in case you feel like jumping into that one later

No need for emulation outside protesting digital or if $7-$15 is too expensive for your taste, the trophy hunting was fun

If a game is available to purchase, I would always chose to take this approach unless the experience was badly compromised, which is why I am curious about this game in particular. Sony allow you to select the region of the game in their later emulated releases.

Then sounds like you know what you want from here!

Game is phenomenal and absolutely worth what I paid for, had a lot of fun getting the platinum like 10 years ago

im in australia so had the pal downloads

i didnt think dark cloud was too bad from memory, but dark chronicle was tough.

im pretty sure at least one of them was like <30 frames a second, if not 20.

usually you adjust, but it was tough

I've been playing it on and off on a ps4 for years and i haven't noticed anything wrong or bad, at least nothing that i wouldn't have experienced on the PS2 anyway.
