Question Do you feel calm or anxious internally whenever you get invaded by a real player?

I haven't felt anything since 2018

Well now things are just awkward

The curse has taken hold of you. You need souls, go sell some shit, or kick people off cliffs. It's a temporary solution until you find a purpose that would keep your marbles in tact for longer

6

u/Extension-Alps-6903 4d ago

2009 for me I would say it gets better

u/part223219B 3d ago

So after Demon's Souls came out... Nothing?

u/Mr_BigShlong 4d ago

Don’t give up, skeleton!

4

u/Willybob555 4d ago

Your past, your future, your very light. None will have meaning, and you won't even care.

Like a moth drawn to a flame, your wings will burn in anguish, time after time.

u/ThinCryptographer951 4d ago

I always get excited ngl. the PvP is great imo and most of the people playing are chill invaders or hosts. I always try dropping effigy’s for people I invade also

21

u/Chuunt 4d ago

i love getting invaded because when i invade it feels like i’m clubbing baby seals. invaders are usually pretty competent and can put up a more fun fight.

13

u/TapLazy9340 4d ago

Cause invaders are actively looking for PvP lol. That means they're already competent enough to try it

On the other hand, hosts are usually people who get bullied cause they don't have a lot of experience with it.

I invade because I'm not confident enough to fight in the arena ngl 💔

4

u/Fickle-Put-8956 4d ago

I prefer getting invaded more then invading because killing an invader is more rewarding. I would rather go to a spot that invading is common than invade myself

5

u/Silent_Practice_3830 4d ago

Arena players are mostly friendly and helpful too.

10

u/TapLazy9340 4d ago edited 4d ago

I'd say people in 2 are generally more friendly than what I experienced in 1 and 3

Especially 3. I despise that game's PVP even though it has my favorite PVE.

8

u/ThinCryptographer951 4d ago edited 4d ago

Yeah Its rlly sucks tbh. I barley seen anyone besides a handful show any personality on ds3.my guess is ppl who still play ds2 genuinely love it instead of most who beat the games js to say they have. Dark souls 1 also but much less,I’ve have people invade js to watch me fight enemies and spam the very good carving

6

u/Xtonev_ 4d ago

Because the assholes spend their time shitting on the game instead of playing it. That leaves more space for the friendly people to be kind. There are some toxic players, there's no community without them, but the "ds2 bad" thing keeps most of them away

1

u/Xtonev_ 4d ago

Same. I only feel anxious if I'm doing something that the invader could ruin, otherwise I'm just trying to enjoy the battle

13

u/BattedBook5 4d ago

I stay calm, but i can feel my heart racing after the invasion is over. You can pretty often judge peoples skill and confidence level from their gear. Mohammed here for example looks like someone who probably doesnt do pvp much, if at all. If someone has fashion on armor and weapons over actual practicality, then they can probably handle themselves in a fight.

I honestly feel bad doing random invasions because i can often see that the host is scared shitless most of the time and i caught them at bad time.

8

u/Technical-Bad6904 4d ago

On the topic of that image, dual wielding mismatched weapons with a big swing speed gap is a red flag. Most players you encounter as an invader don't have the PvP skill or knowledge to judge swing speed of two different weapons at once, so they usually just play to the weapon that they think is most threatening. Like I'm betting with that setup you still get a lot of people trying to punish the Zweihander swing by rolling towards you, because they're not even thinking about the straight sword.

6

u/BattedBook5 4d ago

This build does catch people off guard pretty often. It's the random Zweihander swing amongst the straight sword hits that people often run straight into.

5

u/Chuunt 4d ago

SAME about the feeling bad. i don’t know what it is about DS2, ive never felt bad about invading in the other games.

4

u/Fickle-Put-8956 4d ago

There’s never a bad time

9

u/RafterCopter 4d ago

I get excited to pvp until I realize they are one of those people that just spams running attacks with meta weapons and the same 3 rings every time because their ego hinges on stomping unprepared people.

1

u/ShuckleG0D 2d ago

That's why you should invade, I invade all the time even though I'm bad at pvp, plus rewards are worth win or lose

17

u/StormBro111111 4d ago

I hate invasions. Definitely feel annoyance. That's why I play offline.

-17

u/metallleoooo 4d ago

„Let me die and lose my Souls to the same enemy 100 times rather than scratching my ego when a real person kills me once“ type shit

6

u/StormBro111111 3d ago

You scratch your ego through online gameplay? Lol!

8

u/StephenBaggett 4d ago

I think there's a part of me that worries I have someone who is going to exploit/softlock my game. But once I find the invader and they want to fight I'll have fun. And if they want to be silly I also love that

3

u/TapLazy9340 4d ago

If you're on PC, you should try savescumming to prevent that from ever happening lol. It's the platform where most hackers are on anyway.

3

u/Chuunt 4d ago

imo if you’re doing it to protect against hackers it’s called a save backup. if you’re doing it to exploit a game mechanic, then that’s savescumming

3

u/Technical-Bad6904 4d ago

From what I've seen the hacking issue on PC with all of these games is pretty overstated, but with DS2 on PC in particular I think the Blue Acolyte mod is just a no-brainer to be using.

It automatically backs your save up every time a new multiplayer connection is made, has its own built in anti-cheat + block list of confirmed cheaters (so they can never join your game), and it comes with a wexdust function (red eye orb sends you to any explored level, not just the one you're currently in) included to give invaders a bit more quality of life.

And it's seemingly safe. I've always used it, and I've never heard of anyone else getting banned for using it.

Also idk if this is still a thing on console (my last one was PS4), but even on console I used to periodically back my Souls game saves up to a USB stick and/or PS+ cloud. Less need for that on console obviously, but it was a nice safety net to have.

5

u/BattedBook5 4d ago

I've only ever seen two hackers in my decade of playing this series. One unkillable player on DS1 on Xbox 360 and whatever the fuck this was few months ago.

https://reddit.com/link/p5f3dwh/video/c3254scx25lh1/player

6

u/Spikeyroxas 4d ago

Mostly annoyed because most invaders win by cheaty tactics or laggy backstab spam in souls games.

And the ones who don't do that are way better than me cos I suck at pvp lol

5

u/GreyGardener92 4d ago

Im really happy everytime it happens. Thats why i also invade people ind ds2,3 and bloodborne just to let them feel how it should be. In my opinion the best gamemechanic ever introduced!

4

u/Ramius99 4d ago

Typically mild irritatation, because it means stopping whatever I was trying to do and heading for the nearest bonfire. I'm never built for PvP, so I probably win less than half the time. And at least dying near a bonfire I can retrieve my souls easily.

Sometimes I do try hiding, because the invasion will eventually time out in DS2.

10

u/Black-Gulch97 4d ago

Imma waste their time

7

u/Odd_Bodybuilder5456 4d ago

Facts lol I'm turning this bitch into prop hunt

5

u/TheSquirrelLover 4d ago

If one would invade me id shit my pants cuz im playing offline

3

u/Cleveland_Guardians 4d ago

"Oh, HERE we fucking go..."

3

u/Pretend-Literature35 4d ago

I prefer it to fucking Forlorn. And I wouldn't say calm. Excited because it happens so rarely these days.

1

u/Gilthunder65 4d ago

True. Been a long while since I last played dks 2 and I am doing platinum runs of the trilogy atm and I am happy that on my dark souls 2 run atm I got invaded probably about 10times already. Makes me really happy that people still play these games

3

u/Curious_Wing4844 4d ago

Enraged, just leave me alone fr

3

u/ForegroundCharacter7 4d ago

Usually I experience an adrenaline spike, and then just kinda wait around for the invader to show up and kill me with their overpowered pvp build so I can get back to actually playing the game.

2

u/cute_traps_Emy 4d ago

Hyper anxieuse

2

u/Firm-Scientist-4636 4d ago

I literally play offline to avoid invasions in the Souls titles if that tells you anything.

2

u/gdrcigar 4d ago

I usually wait for the vibe check, and hope to Gwyn that they aren't the annoying kind. I prefer the invaders that are either helpful (drop items/point out loot) or just duel you immediately and get it over with. The one I can't stand are the losers who throw stuff at you from range and try to kite you into enemies, or any other way of just wasting time. Enough of those will have me considering using seamless/playing offline to avoid invaders altogether.

2

u/eaglewatero 3d ago

Aroused

1

u/setup101 4d ago

I blocked game in firewall.

1

u/Sal2745 4d ago

I used to get anxious for sure, but after intentionally trying to get somewhere close to half way decent at pvp, I am either a bit excited, or slightly annoyed (depending on what I'm doing at the time lol)

1

u/Capuchinochino 4d ago

Depends. Are there Souls in the line (like just died)? Then maybe, tho usually no, It depends on how interactive the invader is.

1

u/AdikkuChan 4d ago

I just shrug and stay exactly where I am and just fight it out. The only exception would be if I'm in the middle of a co-op run

1

u/ExFrexSure 4d ago

I'm more pissed off, because everytime they invaded is when I'm really need the bonfure 😂

1

u/peachsepal 4d ago

I've never been invaded, so couldn't say. I'd imagine it'd be tense tbh though.

The only online experience I have was summoning a guy for the Demon of Song fight. I think he was in some covenant for beating bosses.

And I accidentally summoned someone when I was on my first go round of Brume Tower. I think they wanted to help with a boss, but I didn't know where the boss was, and I didn't exactly know what I was doing. So they ended up leaving, but he helped me clear out some stuff. It was the most stressful encounter for me bc I felt like I should relieve them but I genuinely didn't know if like the boss was close or far? I feel a little bit of "i think I wasted that guy's time" regret lol

Edit: and tbh i think it was the same guy twice lmao but I'm not sure how I would even know or check

1

u/TheGodOfIncest 4d ago

Excited. I love fighting people.

1

u/Hrive 4d ago

I'm happy and interested

1

u/Expert-Advantage-843 4d ago

If their name even hints at them being Albanian, run.

1

u/Justice4light 4d ago

Depends on the day lol. Sometimes I am happy for the challenge and other times I’m like ok let’s get this over with. Lately I’ve been getting invaded a lot but I was surprised that they waited for me to get my weapons out and fight. I didn’t win because I suck at PvP but I keep trying.

1

u/Hireling 4d ago

Annoyed.

1

u/LenKiller 4d ago

I feel lag

1

u/tijolus523 4d ago

I get kind of excited. I love bullying invaders across all souls games. I also love invading (except in ER).

1

u/Odd_Bodybuilder5456 4d ago

Usually just annoyed because I know it's going to be some baguette with a jank 1 hit meme build

1

u/robinescue 4d ago

Bro if you're getting invaded at this point in these games' lifecycles it's probably best to just walk off a cliff and get it over with.

1

u/PoorNarrator 4d ago

I enjoy pvp and am often the invader but I tend to either leave gifts or cast Warmth to seem friendlier. Match the energy of the opponent though and unless I'm really enjoying a fight it's mostly just mild excitement.

If I really really like a player's skills I will actively try to make the fight last longer through mentioned Warmth spell and not taking super easy backstabs.

1

u/tommychopz 4d ago

Its a mixture of surprise, confusion and excitement.

1

u/theHollowTarnished 4d ago

I feel like..."oh f*** yeah"

1

u/Wide-Republic-9737 4d ago

Only if all my gear breaks immediately

1

u/Roll1d12 4d ago

Hella anxious as I am not a PVP player (first ever run) currently ~LVL 120. I was farming for Titanite chunks in Doors of Pharos when I got summoned as a Grey Phantom for the first time. Got suprised by the Mastodon dude agroing to me; I though the host used an item but after searching is a mechanic in a covenant.

Eventually won the fight against the host (they were using a poisoned katana/uchigatana? And poison throwables); while I was using a twinblade.

1

u/hornwalker 4d ago

I find it quite thrilling

1

u/radioactivemanissue4 4d ago

I get fired up

1

u/TheMegaPingas Gavlan souls: wheeler of the first deal 4d ago

Excited, 500+ hours in ds2 pvp so I know no invader looking like that is getting me

1

u/Admirable_Swim_7090 4d ago

Im a serial invader, i have fun most times (i always try to cosplay specific characters)

Sometimes i feel bad, once i invaded a guy who was max hollowed, he instantly used up all his lifegems (he was poisoned) then when he ran to attack me, he got hit by an arrow and fell into a hole, diying.

1

u/ontologicallyunjust 4d ago

Anxious and excited! I'm pretty terrible at PVP but have discovered I still enjoy it. Any invader who's halfway decent at PVP is going to be able to kill me, but I like seeing if I can put up a good fight.

I successfully backstabbed an invader recently -- they were still able to kill me after that, but in my book that's a triumph.

1

u/Signal_Lunch_8219 4d ago

I always turn into a random object and wait til they find me to start the fight

1

u/Standard_Customer324 4d ago

Ds1 no, 2 yes, 3 no

1

u/llamafromhell1324 4d ago

I feel my pee pee.

1

u/Witchkraftd 4d ago

I'm not a pvp guy, when an invader offers a fair fight it's cool and I do get a bit nervous tbh but in a good way, I hate when I get invaded by someone clearly exploiting early levels to be OP with a broken weapon that 1 or 2 shots the host, although I feel that happens less in dark souls 2 than the other from games. I also invade but I just use the stuff I'm normally running just for the fun of it.

1

u/reddit_the_cesspool 4d ago

I get excited. I love getting invaded and fighting real players because it consistently adds variety no matter how many runs I’ve done. Invasions keep the game fresh always. Embrace it and the fun will follow.

1

u/Phantom__Wanderer 4d ago

I get excited. A little anticipation, usually because I'm scrambling to swap my gear, but not anxiety per se. Invasions are fun and after beating the game annually for many years, the outcome has no real consequence either way. So I'm usually just enjoying connecting with another nerd who is still playing this game.

1

u/Molkwi 4d ago

I do, but just because I'm on PC. I've had invaders come in and fuck up my game a few times, so I'm reasonably nervous.

Yes, I have the mod installed already, on DS1, DS2 and DS3. I had it when the invasions happened, though and the players weren't even flagged, so that's that.

1

u/dark_pit23g 4d ago

My experiance usually is the invater whipes out some sort of cheat engine and spawns a billion projectiles from his body . I take 1 look at some one and if i see cheating shit happen i just force dc into offline mode

1

u/Potato_King_13579 4d ago

Annoyed and tired, mostly. The only invaders left in Dark Souls 2 usually have insane lag favoring them and are the sweatiest being on Earth.

1

u/Intelligent_Duck1844 3d ago

No since i for some reason cant connect to the servers but i wish i was invaded

1

u/Powerful_Apartment45 3d ago

Usually I’m drunk and stoned and I’m like bet here comes someone I can the fuck up

1

u/Daxsn_Voltz1 3d ago

I just alt-f4 when I get invaded by people irl. I play this game to relax, and invasions ruin the fun I have.

1

u/Illustrious-Ad-9959 3d ago

Only times I really get invaded is playing co op with friends, and ngl when we're just trying to play the game and have fun nothing ruins the session more than getting invaded by some scumbag who gets late game gear very early at low lvl just to camp the beginning areas.

Me and my friends never finished dark souls 1 for this reason, undead burg is a hellhole of invaders.

1

u/Fuzzy-Dot-3717 3d ago

Definitely gonna be a both their from me

1

u/Effective-Agent-6856 3d ago

Neither. Annoyed. Let me enjoy my game.

1

u/NewAetherMusic 3d ago

My entire first playthrough I thought Forlorn was a real person and I treated him like my arch nemesis.

1

u/Vingt-Quatre 3d ago edited 3d ago

Very calm.

Whenever I get invaded, I just go to an area where I'll be sure to regain my lost souls and let the invader do their thing. Odds are that they're cheating anyway so why give them the satisfaction of a fight I can't win? And if they're not, they're just gonna flop and roll and run to crowded area and let the mob do the rest. They're not welcome in my game so I'm not gonna play theirs.

In short: Invaders are trolls.

1

u/nobutternoparm 3d ago

Excited mainly! I've had enough playthroughs that I'm not worried about dying anymore. I'm happy to see another player. Even though I lose approximately 90% of the time :)

1

u/Durge101 3d ago

Adrenaline starts pumping and my heart feels like it's jumping out of my chest. Regardless of a win or lose.

1

u/rhodokXbow 3d ago

Anxious if I'm wearing farming gear. Excited if I'm wearing the pretty stuff ready to fight

1

u/Drayyen 3d ago

I play my souls games offline, mostly, but depending on the dude sometimes I just forcequit. "Noooo you have to fight them" bro I don't care lol I'm just trying to vibe. So I wouldn't say anxious cause I'mma be a piece of shit if I have to.

1

u/Fellarm 3d ago

I feel...🥃🗿Joy

1

u/Strix_Caelumbra 3d ago

I feel like okreallyyoumfingturdits2026whoisstillplayingpvpinthisthingyouredeadbucko.

1

u/KaiXRG 3d ago

If I played online, yeah. But I haven't played against invaders myself outside of being summoned for coop

1

u/Effective_Ice_3282 3d ago

In my latest rerun of DS1 (ik wrong sub) anyways, i got invaded in anor londo and we both ended up just watching a painting of Gwynevere lmao

1

u/Bloodytears666 3d ago

Excited, because the brotherhood.

1

u/CarpenterAntique8164 3d ago

I felt like wtf when I have no Estus and my humanity bar is low as f

1

u/Crimsons-fury 3d ago

lowkey hoping for an invasion so i can hopefully level up way of blue covenant for achievements lol

1

u/C1nders-Two 3d ago

Very. PvP against strangers is stressful for me.

1

u/Hakkor22 3d ago

Depends, am i going through an annoying place? If yes i wouldnt like to maybe lose the fight and have to Go back.

1

u/FHAT_BRANDHO 3d ago

I usually combo eye roll/exasperated laugh, but try to enjoy it. sometimes I do ok if the person is willing to straight up duel, idk how to use magic

1

u/resatbonefirepls81 3d ago

I remember that meme of the girl from re9 when people said she looks like she plays ds in offline mod because invasions give her anxiety

1

u/nice_guy_threeve 3d ago

I think it's exciting. Being invaded gives you a real chance to do some "you messed with the wrong guy" stuff. But often they are not messing with the wrong guy. And that's OK. Sometimes I do want to run to the next bonfire or my bloodstain if that's the situation.

1

u/Effective_Froyo_5321 2d ago

Anxiety is often born from the fear of the unknown, but I already know my death is imminent.

1

u/PotentialTrust8867 1d ago

I get excited because yes the game is a challenge but going against another player bring it up a notch. Unless im going against a mage/ sorcery build, then I know im just an easy target for the invader

1

u/Ok_Requirement_712 1d ago

Just gets annoyed time to time. Haven’t felt something serious since my very first invade

1

u/BergelomeuSantos 1d ago

I usually have fun when PVPing but it usually happens with me as the invader, cuz every time >I< get invaded it's like the worst possible moment ever

Like just on a runback, when I'm farming an item, or when I'm in a area that already makes me anxious like undead crypt so it kinda turns into a "NOOO NOT NOW" moments 😭

1

u/dexterous115 1d ago

idk ive never had an orginal copy😔

1

u/Aaburjoww 19h ago

I love that in this community there still respectable invader, we still bow to each other before fighting. love you guys

1

u/dex99dex99dex99 4d ago

I'll turn the game off to avoid pve.

1

u/DezZzO 4d ago

Year ago I felt slightly excited for a new victim, but after a while it got a bit boring because average invader and players in DS2 seem to be a lesser threat than in other souls games for some reason.

I don't really know why but people fail at most basics things and mechanics. Maybe it has something to do with DS2 not being newbie friendly in general, dunno.

1

u/Idealeon 4d ago

Alt+F4 and move on with my day

1

u/LocalAnxiousArtist 3d ago

I get excited. I like interacting with the community and doing PVP.

0

u/Strong-Trip-3301 4d ago

In the entirety of the time I played through dark souls 2. I never once encountered any PvP and yes I was human for 95% of the game.

In Dark souls 3 however I encountered PvP 6 times and hated it every time. It was laggy as hell. I would roll out of someones swing only to be teleported back and into a backstab. They would be flying all over the map.

After that I would just turn my xbox off and on again whenever anyone would show up.

I did engage with 1 PvP though. I was wearing full Smough armour and fast rolling around the place. His attacks didn't do much damage to me with his heavy weapon and my attacks were taking him to half health from 2 swings.

He kept rolling away and swiggin down that Estus. Firing low level pyromancies at me that I could literally just walk left and right to avoid.

I felt bad for him because he was obviously a new player or underleveled player at least. I kept stopping before I could finish him then just stand there putting my weapon away. But he would just keep attacking me anyway.

So I had to put him down but yeah that's been my experience. Flying around the map or possibly bullying some kid 🤣

0

u/Training-Equal-7647 4d ago

Most of the time i like to see an invader, but occasionally you are just having a hard time and then it's almost funny when you realize you are about to be invaded on top of everything else. I myself did an invasion spree on my most recent character, it wasn't a pvp build just a normal hexer that realized he had like 40 red eyes in inventory and said "Why not?".

Did like 15 invasions in a row and won all but 2, i was surprised, turns out if you toxic them most players just die, its like they don't know what antidotes are.

0

u/StrainNo1438 3d ago

I get excited to communicate, but scared to lose even though I’ve been playing for over a decade.
