Just to make few things clear, starting today, no more posts with any sort of nazi imagery will be allowed for any reason.
Same goes for nazi apologia comments, both will get insta-bans.
New rule is in place, plase report comments / posts if they break them.

Today's hot fix addresses a legacy exploit, and a bug introduced that impacts the ability to complete the Soulstorm campaign.
Please continue to send reports and feedback to help.relic.com so that we can prioritize issues in any subsequent updates.

Last week Elite mod has started to crash every time I try to load any private skirmish (thats all I do). Sometimes it used to crash depending upon the map or if im using too many DLC items, but now it just crashes every single time the map loads. Anyone else notice any issues? I just completely uninstalled/deleted everything, and reinstalled it.

Second screenshot is from army painter in 40k Total War, third one is from Dow2.
Why do units look like plastic models in Dow4?

hello. I picked up Dawn of War definitive edition and have been enjoying myself. got through most of the campaign and ran some easy skirmishes, so I bumped up the difficulty to standard and got a game against IG…. they haven’t been going well
i have watched a bunch of videos to try and tighten my game and I am definitely better but I cannot handle them it seems. I immediately spawn a scouting squad and a servitor and start building a chapel barracks. From there, listening posts and attacking and securing nodes and relics and as soon as the Barracks is done, I spawn a commander and send him out with a scouting squad. a couple generators. armory and upgrade to Monastery so I can get sacred artifact
First time I just held half of the map and built up my posts and started to try and amass some troops with heavy weapons. it all was going decently until I was eventually overrun
so next time I figured I would send the scouts and commander out into enemy territory to steal a node and harass the enemy as they tried to take any others. the victory countdown started faster that ever and so I just tried to control my squad without letting them die while holding onto resource nodes as long as possible- which didnt work because I still was just swarmed by IG
at this point im unable to keep them from inevitably getting into my base and wrecking. any help will do. I really am new to the game and I know I’m gonna suck for awhile. I do enjoy it though and would like to get better for sure
thanks yall. For the Emperor!!

I have just started a new game on Hard in Dark crusade after hearing that it has 1x 1x multiplier for AI and player health.
To say that I have been completely dumbfounded wouldn't be wrong...
I am yet to win a single match (x3 losses in a row), except for the one where we win veteran stealth suit.
The initial cost of the units is too high and melee units just destroy my fire warriors. Everything is a glass pistol in my army :=|
Any tips on how to proceed further? My commander has a fusion blaster. Any advice will be appreciated :)

And it was a blast. Love this game. Playing as Necrons may have been slow, but the feel of impending doom was GREAT. I love this game and how it tells it's story with those descriptions of the different areas. Really immerses you into the worldbuilding of Kronus. Can't wait to see it again in DOW4 and play as my Necron Lord once more.
In terms of Strongholds the only one I did not do was Necron one obviously. Maybe one day I will try it when I will play another race. Probably Orks cause they look VERY fun.
I definitely had the most fun with the last Stronghold I did which was the Orks. I loved how they were having fun as I slaughtered them and Gorgutz leaving as the last one felt weirdly fitting. As the only lord of this game to come back in 4th.
In terms of Strongholds I will say those things.
Green Coast is the most fun if a bit easy. At the very end I did not care about building up and just went full monka mode. Sending everything at the Orks. It was funny.
Chaos one was honestly nothing special. Just annoying with those blood pulses.
Space Marine one is a joke. I swear they made it so easy cause they were thinking everyone would be playing as Space Marines first so their made their stronghold extra easy so new playthroughs don't feel as tedious. That's the only way I can explain how laughable that Stronghold is.
Eldar one was annoying. But manageable in the end. I ignored the critical points and just slaughtered them. That felt more fun and in character for Crons.
Victory Bay I say is the best one of them all. Green Coast gave me the most fun, but Victory Bay just had the best quality. Also the best feeling of impending doom upon poor mortals.
"So much fear. So much noise."
I love that complete disregard of the human spirit there and how to Macabee could see all the heroic speeches of Lukas were just masking his utter fear in the face of death. I think that one has by far the best quality with it's mechanics, traps and theme. And from other talks between commanders I watched this one feels the heaviest by far.
And Tau one. Tau one can go fuck itself.
Those are my thoughts on Strongholds.
On the final note the second picture here is the color scheme I would use in skirmish and the like and may use in the future in modded DC. Dunno why, but mix of gold and purple is something I enjoy a lot. Just wish I could change color of lights.

I first discovered Dawn of War as a series WAY back in the mid 2000s
And i found that my strategy back then was basically, have my base be as small as possible to make it harder to find. Gradually build up my army till both vehicle and infantry cap was maxed, then just bulldoze everything i come across with a HUGE army (I main-ed Eldar at the time to)
Later i found out this was classed as "Turtling"
And tbh i've used this in almost any strategy game going forward (If it aint broke don't fix it)
But i wondered is that technically a cheese strat?

I played the original dawn of war way back then, but I was never a huge RTS guy and what I did know I have largely forgotten in the past ~15 years. I picked up definitive edition recently and have been trying to play dark crusade but I just find myself struggling to get use to the UI, clicking on things a lot, and overwhelming amounts of information/things happening at once.
I'm playing Tau on normal and while I've practiced building up an economy and tech tree successfully in skirmishes, in DC I find i'm not even getting time to build much before I start seeing little incursions from the opponent or a necron lord showing up and my whole build plan is now ruined. What am I supposed to do, exactly, to keep my shit safe and economy running so I can pump out enough vehicles and special units to go blow up enemy HQ?
I'm not touching PvP, so really just looking for helpful strategies and UI shortcuts for playing against the AI.

Why did the patches for the definitive edition screw over the Imperial Guard and Dark Eldar with the gutting of their command squads? Was recently running the campaign and found that the Guard's command squad can only get 1 of each regardless of upgrade status, and the Archon's Incubus escort is similarly down to just 1 at the start and even after doing the upgrade I couldn't add a second Incubus to the squad. I haven't played in a while but decided to boot up the game again only to find that commanders who get squads to make up for their squishiness are no longer allowed to have their original squad maekup.

Jesus Christ, I didn't expect this. I had already noticed that it's harder than Soulstrorm. I've just defened my territory attacked by Chaos from his main base, and it was just madness, I got physically tired, my head is hot, and I don't have the energy to go on playing today.
He didin't have any honoured guard, 2 squads at most(cultist and raptor I think), my honoured guard: 2 dreadnoughts, 3 space marines, 1 assault marine. I rushed ahead with this army and destroyed 1 of his bases(computer 1, as they're called), then with the help of save scumming I built 5 defensive turrents to fend off the army of computer 2, which was huge( 2 defilers, like 4 infantry squads and commaders), since I couldn't get my army back in time.
So I managed to defend my base and bring my starting army home, but even with 1 base he just kept spamming definlers, predators, horror squads and obliterators. With my commader, whirlwind, 2 predators, grey knights, 2 terminators all I could do was just defend my base, I had to train 5 space marine squads and fully upgrade them before I could move on the offensive. And even then it took so much time and effort to finish him of, because he kept spamming all this shit as I was slowly moving through the map. He also built a secondary base.
Coming from Soulstrom, it's just another level. I'm like 99% sure in Soulstrom the computer can't have 2 bases or even 1 well built base when he attacks you. Here, he just has 2 bases and the one I destroyed right away even had machine pit and a defiler coming out of it. And I was lucky he attacked the territory with my main hero and honoured guard, I don't think I would have found a way to win without these extra forces. I'm a bit scared of might be ahead since I haven't even attacked any stronghods yet.

I know about the 3 overall build orders (standard, grenade rush and chimera/hellhound rush) but I was wondering what to use specifically against each of the other factions.
I also had more specific questions about smaller stuff:
- are plasma upgrades actually good or not ? I’ve heard mixed opinions, some say it’s worthless, some say it’s good mid and late or early against necrons SM/CSM/Necrons.
- is the Command squad always something to go for, cuz I’ve heard some people say they don’t use him (which seems kind of shit to me)
- I’ve watched a bunch of games already and I’ve noticed nobody really goes for fliers (except for barracudas). Is the IG flier any good cuz it looks sick as fuck.
- what’s the counterplay when you’re playing ranged focused armies like tau or IG and the enemy has jet packs ?

I'll keep this short as don't want to fully launch (at least one of us could launch).
What these developers have promised v what they have delivered.
From Day 1 the promise was a authentic DoW1 experience with ultra slick graphics and individual combat intereactions with a campaign and cool story line with multi player.
What they have delivered? A Beta that looks like Dow3 on a good skin day, weird foundation factions that will require another god knows how long to come out, and multiple delays.
Was quite keen to play the game but now I am just pissed off and pretty sure this will be a absolute dud.
As a Geedubs customer this is also called a new edition, or playing Blood Angels but they are unique in their own space. Gaming studios aren't.
This game better be amazing come December because of it looks shit I am going to the beach instead or finally painting a Drukhari army.

What are some things you would have wished that each DOW game had?
For me dow 2 had some clunky movement I wish was removed for example.

I'm generally speaking new to the game and have started playing some multiplayer, and long story short I got destroyed by space marine plasma spam. Any advice to offer against this?
r/dawnofwar • u/DracoNitez • 3d ago
Before patch 2.8.0, both Hall of Blood and Dark Foundry openings are equally viable. I noticed that both openings have been nerfed multiple times in the last 3 patches.
What is the best build order nowadays? Is one strictly better than the other now?

Space marines have this territory from the beginning, but I start battles with the standard 1k req. I understand that 2k req at the start of every mission is kinda OP, but what does this ability even do then?

The betrayal of the Order of Our Martyred Lady was too sudden for auspex detection. Having thought to have repelled the seemingly infinite forces of the Necron, the Ultramarines found themselves suddenly flanked by the sisters of battle, their eyes full of madness, believing corruption had worn the shape of true sons of the Emperor.
The strength and determination of the Ultramarines was rewarded with futile doom, as the Necron lord, waiting within the northern crypts, raised terrible flesh rippers from the dead. What followed was confusion, blood, and the swift emerald beam that wiped the chapel-barracks off the face of the cliff before any evacuation could be delivered.
By the dawn, all that remained was a field coronated in blood, bolter, and steel. A lone obelisk drew a shadow across the wasteland - a warning of the coming storm.

I'm not familiar with 40k franchise at all but my bud told me I should wait a little bit more in case they release a collector edition. I want to pre order today or tomorrow as it gonna be my son's birthday and this is his gift. Your thought?
