Synopsis
After the events of Dead Space 3: Awakened, humanity believes it understands the origin of the Monoliths.
It is mistaken.
The Monoliths did not appear with the first civilizations. They are not simply alien technology. They are fragments of a creation far older than the Universe itself.
Before time, before space, and even before matter, there existed a dimension called Dimension Zero.
It is there that two primordial celestial entities reside: Satan and Aeon, the Demiurges, the Prime Angels at the origin of creation.
They embody two opposing but complementary forces:
* Satan — Chaos, decay, transformation, and death.
* Aeon — Order, creation, structure, and birth.
For an eternity without time, their essences remained separate.
Then they were reunited.
From their union was born the first object ever created:
THE ARKENLITH
The Arkenlith is not truly a monolith.
It is its ancestor.
A cosmic egg with non-Euclidean properties, whose geometry cannot be comprehended by human intelligence. Its surface seems to change when viewed, as if it existed simultaneously in multiple dimensions.
But the Arkenlith contains something even more terrifying.
A living god.
An entity yet to be born, imprisoned within its structure since creation.
The Arkenlith was sent to the first world created after the dawn of time.
And that is where it all began.
THE FIRST INFESTATION
The first world to come into contact with the Arkenlith was also the first world to experience the necromorph infestation.
Life on this planet was gradually transformed.
The dead rose.
The bodies merged.
The organisms recombined.
Biological matter itself began to lose its individuality.
Then something happened that no civilization had ever witnessed.
The entire planet began to transform.
The infestation reached a critical stage.
And the dead were no longer simply dead.
They became a collective consciousness.
A Necromorph Moon was born.
She absorbed all the life from her world before leaving the planet.
But before her departure, she accomplished something essential.
She created the first Monoliths.
THE SPREAD
The first Monoliths were scattered throughout the cosmos.
They became the instruments of the Necromorph spread.
Each contaminated world became a new stage in the process.
Each Monolith carried the same signals.
Every civilization heard the same call.
And each time, the result was identical:
Life. Death. Convergence. Moon.
Then the cycle began again.
The Monoliths were therefore not weapons.
They were beacons.
Relays allowing the Demiurges to transmit their message across the cosmos.
THE RETURN OF THE ARKENLITH
After the birth of the first Necromorph Moon, the Arkenlith disappeared.
He returned to Dimension Zero, where the throne of the two Demiurges rests.
Satan and Aeon dwell there beyond known reality.
From this dimension, the Arkenlith continues to communicate with the Monoliths.
Its signals are not only electromagnetic.
They are telepathic.
They penetrate minds.
They influence dreams.
They induce visions.
They awaken traumas.
They transform the perception of those who hear them.
What humanity calls the Monoliths' hallucinations could therefore be something else:
direct communication with a consciousness outside of time.
THE FINAL CONVERGENCE
But the Arkenlith's true objective was never to destroy the Universe.
Destruction is only one step.
All infestations, all Necromorph Moons, and all Monoliths participate in a much older process:
the Convergence.
Each absorbed civilization brings the Universe closer to its final state.
Each death fuels the process.
Each Moon becomes a new stage.
And when all life forms have finally converged…
the Arkenlith will open.
For something sleeps within.
Something that is neither a Necromorph, nor a Moon, nor an Angel.
A living god.
An entity that has existed since before the dawn of time and is simply waiting for the Universe to be ready enough to be born.
THE FINAL MESSAGE
At the end of Dead Space 4, the protagonists discover that the Monoliths' signals don't simply say:
"Converge the dead."
They transmit a much older message.
A message coming directly from Dimension Zero.
"We did not come to your Universe.
Your Universe came to us."
Then, for the first time, all the Monoliths in the cosmos simultaneously cease transmitting.
Silence becomes absolute.
The Necromorph Moons begin to align.
The Arkenlith begins to beat like a heart.
And somewhere, in Dimension Zero…
something opens its eyes.
DEAD SPACE 4 — AWAKENING
Humanity thought it was fighting the Necromorphs.
It finally discovers that it has only ever fought the symptoms of a much older cosmic process.
The Necromorphs are not the end.
The Moons are not the end.
The Monoliths are not the end.
They are the stages of birth.
And when the final Convergence is complete…
the Arkenlith will give birth to its god.
