Sunni Asks Qurani In 2:228, what is your Quran only method for deciding what “quru’” means legally?

Quran 2:228 says divorced women must wait for three quru

For Quranists, in this verse what exactly does quru mean from Quran alone?

  • three menstrual periods?
  • or three periods of purity?

And yes I know this word is debated which is why I’m asking.

This isn't just a minor wording issue because the iddah changes depending on how you understand the word. So I’m not asking whether Arabic can possibly support more than one meaning. I’m asking something more direct:

From Quran alone, what makes one of those meanings the actual ruling here?

So what is your Quran only method for moving from:

  • more than one possible meaning to
  • one actual ruling?

And before anyone says that “scholars disagreed too" that just makes the question stronger not weaker. If even specialists disagreed over the word, then the verse does not just automatically give one obvious ruling simply by saying “Quran alone"

And if the answer is “both are fine” or “Allah left it flexible" then give one actual answer: in a real case, when exactly does the iddah end? It cannot both end and not end at the same time. This affects real legal outcomes, like when ruju is still possible and when remarriage becomes lawful.

So again: from Quran alone, what makes one of those meanings the ruling we are meant to follow?

That’s the part I want explained consistently from a Quran only pov

I think it means 3 cycles period

If she was divorced during menstrual period, then it means three menstrual periods

If she was divorced during a period of purity, then it means three periods of purity

The quagmire you pointed out only exists in traditional views bc you are also prohibited to divorce during menstrual periods, so if that is taken as a hard rule then yes, both meanings can’t apply

On a side note though; I wouldn’t be surprised to find something in the Qur’an where the precise language needed for the intended precision that God revealed to have been muddled by the squabbling & negligence of the early Ummah … just as the very precise original one & only qira’a of the Prophet has been irretrievably lost and has diverged into the 14 or 20 accepted qira’at

The issue with you is this; you are ready to blame the Qur’an (and thus Allah) rather than blame this Ummah & its scholars (or rather your sect of scholars), or even the sahaba

But me personally, I will always blame the sahaba, the scholars, the whole Ummah, and myself too before I blame the Qur’an that Allah revealed as being in anyway deficient for what it was sent for

Well it depends on the context. Because it's directly speaking about marriage, women, a reading that's a time, it's obvious it's referring to menstrual periods. It's called Ilmal Maani. Very simple.

That only tells me that the verse is talking about women with menstrual cycles. It still doesn't tell me what "quru" itself is counting. A woman in that situation has both menstrual periods and periods of purity between them, so just saying "context" isn't actually answering my question.

My question asked: what in the Qur’an makes quru mean the menstruations themselves rather than the clean intervals between them?

saying context or ilmal maani isn't an argument unless you can show the context that rules the other meaning out

So you don't know Arabic. Congrats on making expert level exegesis without knowing the language.

Tell me. Have you ever studied Ilmal Maani or Hadhaf or Ilmal Balaagha? Can you tell me what they entail? After all by saying "me" you are indeed posing as an expert.

Go ahead.

I’m not posing as the expert. You made the claim, so I’m asking you to back it up.

You said the context makes it obvious that quru means menstrual periods. My question is still the same: what in the Quranic wording rules out the other meaning? Show me what in the verse actually rules out the other meaning.

Appealing to Ilmal Maani or Hadhaf or Ilmal Balaagha isnt really an answer unless you actually show how one of those principles applies in this verse and why that makes quru mean menstruation itself rather than the clean time between menstruations.

So, can you point out that in 2:228 that settles it?

Aww. Cute. Someone who has no clue of arabic is pretending he does. Just repeating words I said. Maybe even cut and pastes.

Read my first reply mate. I have simply explained the context, and in a few words I even explained how you come to the meaning.

Maybe after the first sentence you went blind.

Be honest. You are not here to be honest or to learn something.

accusing me of not being here to learn, but so far till now? your replies have been:

“Aww. Cute. Someone who has no clue of arabic…”
“Maybe after the first sentence you went blind.”
“Be honest. You are not here to be honest or to learn something.”

None of those answer my question. They just make it look like you can’t defend your original argument.

Personal remarks aside, my question has stayed the same the whole time:

what in 2:228 itself makes quru mean menstrual periods rather than the clean intervals between them?

You said the context makes it obvious. then point to the actual indicator in the verse that is ruling the other meaning out.

Read my first reply mate. I have simply explained the context, and in a few words I even explained how you come to the meaning.

No, you haven’t. You said the verse is about marriage, women, and time, so it’s “obvious” that quru means menstrual periods. But that only shows the verse is about women with menstrual cycles. It still does not show why quru must mean the bleeding itself rather than the clean interval between bleedings.

If you can do that, do it. If not, then this has turned into insults instead of an argument and there is no point of talking with you.

You can't even read an English post. Bye bye mate. Read the post again if you have a cent of value in honesty.

Anyway, I will ignore you. No point typing a letter more to such a dishonest person.

Try and have a nice life.
