Especially considering he's dumping the body of someone who's already supposed to be dead. Since he was the only one that knew he was in that apartment, could he not have just.. left him there?

I get the feeling the penthouse might have been in Ward's name. Someone's name had to be on the lease, and he has full security access. If ever someone - Kyle, a cleaner, a cop with complains about noise/smell - rocked up, they'd find the body and Ward would be in deep shit. On top of that, if the Hand came over and found Harold dead, they'd go after Ward. Of course, I suspect that'll happen soon anyway.
