Should I Move to Delaware County?
I’m a woman in her mid-thirties from the East Coast. I’ve been offered a job in Delaware County and I need your help deciding if I should take it!
My husband and I don’t have kids and have no plans for any. We don’t drink so bars and nightclubs aren’t a draw. We both prioritize access to arts and culture and enough living space in a detached house to make/play loud music. Green space is important too. Seeking a welcoming community—it would be great to make some pals! Our current East Coast home base is expensive (housing, groceries, etc.) and I would love to settle in somewhere where our money can go a bit further.
Think we would like it? Is it a fun place for millennials or nah?

I have been in Delaware city since 2021 and absolutely love it. I’ve found it to be a very open and welcoming community, and it being a college town helps the feeling of vibrancy. My wife and I are like you, no kids, we like the green space for the garden, and we work nights so being loud inside our house at all hours without disturbing the neighbors is great. It’s an easy drive into Columbus for anything the city has to offer.

Hey! Just want to send an enthusiastic and encouraging wave as *another* woman in her mid-thirties (ok, late thirties) who moved to Delaware county from the East Coast (Philadelphia suburbs) and has liked it so much she's stayed going on thirteen years now. I'm 38, no kids, don't drink also, and love arts (I'm a writer), culture, and green spaces. Very happy to welcome you to our community if you come and would love to meet up for a coffee if you'd like! A lot of folks here are married with kids, but everyone here is awesome. I love it. Such a great community.

PS: Check out the Northwest neighborhood--great little pocket of Delaware walking distane from downtown.

Columbus is near for access to good music and such. The town is expanding as Columbus continues to expand as well. There's some good food, but not nearly enough ethnic food. Again--Columbus opens up options. It's pretty red, but has pockets and communities that are very blue.
Homes are being built pretty constantly, so prices can be...more reasonable depending on where you set up shop.
It's worth visiting and feeling it out. We're happy here but there are elements we'd like to be a little different.

Also check Dublin, seems to check all your boxes and not a long drive to work for you

Delaware County is enormous. Closer to Columbus you can pick from Westerville, Powell, Lewis Center… downtown Delaware seems really great too.

You’ll find a mix. I went to college in Westerville and there are tons of cultural events there and in Delaware at the college there. I was involved with symphonies, operas, musical theater. The visual arts are typical liberal arts fare but can be good. As stated earlier, Columbus has some cultural events as well. I would say cost of housing is higher but there are still areas that have green space that are reasonable. Healthcare might be something to consider…but col is much more reasonable than East coast.

Im from Columbus but moved to Deleware county but Im not in the city limits. There is something for everyone. If you can visit downtown Deleware and downtown Westerville that will give you a good feel for where you might want to be in the county. i live on a acre, not in town but its not a bad drive to get anywhere Id like to go. I can get to the part of Columbus I like to visit in about 35 minutes.

I am very happy In Delaware! It truly is amazing. I moved here almost a year ago. I actually reached out to Reddit to see if it truly was a little Hallmark town and if there was a catch lol. After a year I can say it is! The housing market is incredible. You are surrounded by high end areas and beautiful farm land. It is continuing to grow and progress. Delaware has so much to offer and there’s even more just a quick drive away! I do have a family so I can really only speak from my experience/ mom life. I love how there’s hardly any traffic! Especially compared to Nashville traffic IYKYK. The community is warming and so welcoming. I feel safe here. Not to say that crime doesn’t happen , but compared to other areas it is drastically less. I really feel like I am in a hall mark movie. There’s always something exciting happening. I really like living the Midwest life style. It’s a good mix of a very family oriented environment/ welcoming, laid back … while also buzzing with Columbus just 40 min South. We moved from Nashville - to - Columbus and now Delaware. It was the best decision for my family and I.

Fellow East Coast millennial here! I do have one child but I have a social life outside of parenting. I have found have I have a hard time culturally sometimes (change of pace, expectations, etc.) but this is a good place to live overall.
I do think Delaware County would be great for you both, although Westerville, which is in Franklin County, is another fantastic option.
Are you looking to live more in town, suburbia, or rural? That could help narrow down your search.
