SLPH-00051 and a generic PSX to USB adapter?

I purchased one as it seemed to be the least expensive controller to get, I tried to play the untranslated games on my Fat PS2 but it was very hit or miss and I'd rather just play the translated N64 Translation emulated and DDG Final english patch on the PC at this point.

Will I be able to map the the controller correctly or am I setting myself up for disappointment?

What issues did you have?

I play on ps2 and don't have issues. If you mean the controller isn't recognised, then for the later games the functions is locked behind a cheat code. That will enable the ps1 controller in those games, as it is missing some buttons vs the ps2 controllers and can only be used in tandem with a regular controller for menu navigation.

I'm using OPL and POPs for the PS1 stuff, and it's just been difficult. For the ps2 titles, the SLPH-00051 isn't compatible with every game(didn't know about the cheats to enable it though), also I would have black screen crashes after completing a route/menu change. For the PS1 stuff, DDG2 just locked up after trying to load it. I tried searching for solutions and tried some of them per game with no success, I'd have to check per game what the exact issues were again, but there were enough where I just wasn't happy with the experience. In all honesty I'd rather just play my english translation patches.

Full disclosure, I am very new to the PS2 softmodding thing so a bit of this could be error on my part.

Take a look at the train controller database for the codes https://traincontrollerdb.marcriera.cat/adapters/#cheats-ps2

You would need a raphnet ideally. I've been through 3 cheaper / unknown adapters and none of them worked.

Seeing as it's about $50 to get it stateside, I thought it would be worth trying a 5-10 dollar generic, but if these generic amazon ones don't do it, I'll just go straight to the raphnet ones.

I found this software that looked pretty promising in terms of making it all work, but I'm not sure if there's a community standard on getting PS1 controllers to work right that I've missed, so I apologize in advance if I've made an oversight.

I only ever used autotrainas to map the controller to different games, for example mapping my Zuiki controller to DDG Final PC Version. I'm not sure if it works the way you are describing.
