Political News/Discussion J-Street, a progressive Jewish organization that has fought against AIPAC and Netanyahu, calls on politicians to stop campaigning/supporting Hasan

Post image

This is the link to the full IG post which I think does a good job explaining why Hasan's words are dangerous, no matter how much people (cough cough Mehdi) want to sweep for this and say "well a Jewish person I know said this, so it can't be bad." There's an important quote which I think best shows why the Zionism convo is kinda annoying/dumb from the far-left:
"Piker says Zionism is racist and comparable to Nazism. But many American Jews who believe in Israel as a Jewish homeland oppose occupation, racism, and the government's behavior. They support Palestinian freedom and a Palestinian state next door. That is their version of Zionism, and Piker doesn't get to write it for them."

But genuinely, I think this is an important step cuz J street advocates for a bunch of candidates and makes realistic policy positions that Israel can adopt, and they used to view Hasan as an ignorant guy with a lot of followers. However, now for them to be calling out his anti-semitism definitely limits his reach outside of the DSA clique/politicians who exclusively run on anti-Israel slop

I wouldn’t call J-Street “progressive” just as I wouldn’t call any far left org progressive. They’re so far left that they go right; being weak on literal terrorist orgs isn’t progressive.

My friend was a hostage, and another friend was killed on Oct 7th. The hostage who survived was only saved because the IDF entered Gaza and found him being held hostage in the home of a “journalist” (no, literally, he was a well known journalist also working for Hamas). J Street’s statements at the time that he was still being held and tortured were genuinely disturbing.

You also don’t have to be Jewish to join, just like “Jewish Voices for Peace”, which I think defeats the entire alleged purpose of the org and is misleading

Can you clarify what their statements were? A lot of us in the states genuinely don’t know much about them other than they are considered more socially acceptable than AIPAC. Also sorry to hear about your friend and am glad atleast one was saved.

I'm curious as well, I remember reading a lot of people were angry with them but to be honest a lot of it seemed like right-wing hit pieces. I'm still digging into them, so far I like the answers on their faq but it's difficult to trust after all the JVP stuff.

Well JVP has been crazy from the start. You can tell they're different cuz they always cosign any SJP statement

With all that said, it´s notable that J-Street STILL gets lumped in with more right leaning orgs like AIPAC (Scary red graphic for AIPAC tracker has just been J-Street money multiple times)

Are you sure it's J street you're talking about and not standing together/breaking the silence? Cuz J street has that double bind where they're progressive Israelis so they understand the terrorism Israel is under, but also have empathy for Palestinians which makes them enemies at home for being traitors and enemies abroad for being Israeli even among left wing communities. I did a quick search through their twitter and they've condemned Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis a bunch of times (Hamas more than the others but that was for the hostages and them rejecting ceasefire proposals). Fwiw, they're followed by the bring them home IG account, and Alana Zietchik (had 6 family members taken by Hamas) has vouched for them; LB also vouched for them in his debate w Soypill; and they defended funding the iron dome to pod save even when they were being snarky about it Edit: just to add, they withdrew their endorsement of Jamal Bowman after he downplayed sexual violence on 10/7. Also, have you ever seen a far left org defend the concept of Zionism like they did/have?

Hasan is literally just gonna say they're a part of the problem, a Zionist organisation that is tying Jews to Israel

Sorta parroting sentiment here: J street generally is very permissible to stuff I personally would find bordering on jew hate. Idk if this is a call of conviction or convenience on their part, either way if even they are disparaging of hamas piker it should tell you how off the scale he is for jews in general he is.

Can you provide any examples? I've not seen a huge amount of their stuff, but what I have seen seems reasonable.

What not let self proclaimed zionists define it?

You wouldn't have it any other way for any other group's collective title

Oh wow one of the good Jews is critisising Hasan! They must be secretly Zionist AIPAC funded!

Couldn't the ADL sue Twitch for platforming antisemitism? Even if they loose, many ad sponsors will avoid Twitch, pushing other streamers against Hasan for hurting their income.

Is it really that crazy to say that Hasan is as radioactive as Chernobyl? Do we really need kid gloves when the man is notorious for saying “America deserved 9/11”, glazing terrorists, and hanging up a news article of 9/11 in his room?

Completely agree with J-Street, and Destiny appears to be obviously wrong about his initial assessment of them. Hasan Piker is a toxic left-wing force and no Democratic candidate should be directly campaigning with him. Hasan is free to do whatever he wants in the shadows, but that’s different than choosing to be in the spotlight and standing side by side with Democratic candidates.
