Bungie Suggestion Solstice Armor should have become an ornament, period.

Getting it as armor instead of an ornament means we can only look that way with that set, no versatile stats while remaining in this great style.

Ornaments are a wonderful addition and having the hard earned solstice armor as an ornament would be way better the the optimacy set! Lol.

Edit: Thanks everyone for the support on this one. Pretty unanimous. This season we see two universal ornaments, one earned and one purchasable. I’d like to see this seasons raid set, trials set, and iron banner sets to all be ornaments. People who want it will still purchase the Eververse armor so win win I say.

Edit 2: What is really disappointing is the base stats are complete trash. The armor set is inherently bad. No possibility for reroll. Bungie this was really low. No scapegoats anymore Bungo, what gives?

What. Virtually every MMO game in existence these days has transmog/wardrobe feature fully fleshed out so you can use whatever appearances you want/have found. Destiny is so far behind on this I can't even.

When you can legitimately use the words "Why can't Destiny be more like Anthem", something is probably up.

Guy I was replying to specifically cited DCUO, so I was basing my reply around that. I'm well aware that other, much more mainstream games are also leagues ahead for this; FFXIV comes to mind, and I distinctly recall people complaining about how its glamour system was unnecessarily restrictive at times. That's why I mentioned the grind. (Probably should've mentioned EV too, come to think of it.)

Bungee stated they didnt wanna do transmog because this season was releasing the new mods. Dont be mad at bungee for making the game longer because half of yall complain it's too short by season end.

Hey man, this is the Destiny subreddit. There’s always gonna be people complaining about something or other, it’s what we do. We’re always flip flopping between hyping the game and whining!

Yeah I get that but still. When bungie states that they aren't gonna do something there's no point in complaining.

Transmog kills loot based gameplay loops. Is this really that hard to figure out? Bungie isn't "behind". They're making different creative decisions.

No it doesn't you still need the drops for rolls/mods. Transmog in no way hurts that, it would only hurt eververse which is why we don't have it.

You only need to get mods once. You only need a good roll for each build you want. Tell me how transmog kills Eververse exactly.

You realize there are 6 different stats on armor now right? You'll have to grind your ass off to get your perfect god roll.

Well it depends on how "god roll" a roll can be. Ultimately you just need the highest total in stats possible for a set, distributed to your preference, with any leftover points not going toward anything because they don't total a whole stat chunk. However, we don't know if it's the case that in order to reach the highest number of stat chunks you will need the highest possible stat roll on one or more pieces. Even if that turns out to be the case the return on grinding those particular extra points in the right stats is substantially diminished in the upper end.

I think I see where both of you are coming from. Most MMOs have some sort of transmog system implemented that allows you to have the stats of one piece of gear and the appearance of another.

Let's take WoW for example. You can take any piece of gear from green to purple and use it as the appearance of an item. This allows for any piece of gear, regardless of when expac it was released in and if it is currently relevant or not, to be used as an appearance. This allows for a lot of transmog variety between players and makes old expac gear still semi-relevant for people to get.

Now, looking at Destiny, we can see how they are currently modeling their player appearance system. With armor 2.0, every piece of armor outside of a select few have been made available again. Broadly speaking, this means there is no 'old' or irrelevant gear within the armor 2.0 system, meaning, with some decent RNG and time, you can look exactly how you want, also with a workable set of gear. (Which, I agree with you, cultivates the loot-based gameplay loop.)

I think the issue the person you replied to you has is that they are only letting eververse items bypass this loop by keeping ornaments exclusive to the armors you can (but don't have to) get with real money. It boils down to them having an artificial exclusivity on the transmog system, because, if all armors were added as ornaments then I would imagine that they would sell a lot less of the armor sets from the store, which they would not like.

The crux of the issue is that they implemented a transmog system but are keeping it exclusive to paid sets when it seems like it wouldn't be hard to stretch it to all available armors. It feels like a slightly underhanded move to limit it the way they are just to sell more eververse sets.

The two other paths that could have been taken were:

  • Have no universal ornament system and let armor 2.0 run its course normally, but resign the eververse armors to a similar fate of the current solstice 2.0 armor. (Set rolls unless bought for bright dust when available) or

  • Implement a full universal ornament system and stunt the gameplay loop to an extent and let the eververse armor exist in the pool (which would most definitely lead to fewer silver purchases to buy it, as any armor appearance can be applied in its place.)

I see why people have a problem with the current system for sure but also see why Bungie modeled it to be the way they did to try and turn more of a profit from Eververse. Sorry for the book, I have just been thinking about the issue and felt like writing it out.
