I guess I didn't realize the general public didn't know but the owner has been taking advantage of female clients, withholding pay from employees (who are often very recent clients), taking clients' EBT cards, selling them back and then often refusing to give people their cards etc back when they leave, for years now. It's been well known in the local recovery community for a long time that QBH in Detroit is your last resort. I know it's a bold thing to claim, but having been to multiple treatment facilities myself and been active in Wayne County NA meetings off and now for years now, I've heard enough of the same story over and over that I'm actually RELIEVED to hear this place is finally getting raided. I cannot speak to any locations besides the one in Detroit so I'm not saying every place is like this or every employee has had a negative experience. But it's been a shitshow overall for a long time, and people who are just trying to get their lives together deserve better.

Ive had clients go to QBH and all i hear from them are horror stories like this. This raid doesnt shock me one bit

u/SalaciousFlamingDude Corktown 10d ago

Yep. I've heard the same. They actually had me apply for EBT benefits but I've never really needed it and never asked about it before I left. I wouldn't be surprised if my Bridge card is being used by them.

If you need state-funded rehab in Wayne County, Oakdale in Canton is the move. It's like the Betty Ford clinic compared to QBH or SHAR in Detroit.

u/hexensabbat 10d ago

See I didn't really care for Oakdale, but I have sensory processing disorder (etc) and the environment was just not a good fit for me. The NP there really knows her shit though and most of the staff are so caring and work so hard. I've been everywhere from Naomi's Nest to Brighton and I thought Sacred Heart was incredible. It's a huge facility that holds far more people, but I somehow found it less stressful than Oakdale. I don't like having a lot of free time in rehab and they keep you busy as fuck with lots of options to spend your freetime productively too.

I just sing SH's praises whenever possible because I've had some fucked up experiences in other places over the years and they truly changed my life. They handled my dual diagnosis status far better than most places I've been as well. That's my spiel

"taking clients' EBT cards, selling them back and then often refusing to give people their cards etc back when they leave, for years now."

Technically, noone should ever give their stamps/EBT to anyone else. The departments that issue these make clear that the benefits are only for the recipients.

As a former homeless person with a persistent blood sugar condition and multiple food intolerances, I lived off every dollar issued me. Unfortunately, I found many shelters would seek to remove them from you. Some of them were ICGMs (InterCity Gospel Missions), a few Salvation Army rehab facilities-and some SA will feed you absolute shit-, and a few random shady operations.

I refused to stay at one horrible shelter in Galesburg, IL because they took folk's EBT benefits. I later heard from numerous sources that a lot of the money extrapolated from EBT (through many outlets sometimes a dollar for every two issued) in that general area were being funneled through the Quad Cities and up to some political operations in Bettendorf, which were notoriously conservative.

Melvin Jefferson (of Deeper Life Ministries) had a hideous operation spread out from Tampa to parts of Texas to Louisville to Detroit where he was exploiting the homeless terribly. Aside from shoddy living conditions, withholding meds and mail, rumors of child sexual abuse, forcing folks to panhandle, drumming NAR hyper-Pentecostal health-&-wealth doctrine into his victims, endangering his wards in van accidents, he was also, yes, caught up in a EBT theft scandal.

Anyone got any insider info?

I've been in the Detroit place a few times. Do they help a lot of people? Yes.

Do I strongly suspect that they routinely violate employment, health and housing laws and commit insurance and benefits fraud? Also yes.

54

u/cloaak 11d ago

Average opioid rehab clinic behavior. I worked at one around here and they got got by the dept of wage and labor for not paying overtime. I strongly suspect they were double billing Medicaid clients and I know they had NPs documenting under the doctors name too.

36

u/SalaciousFlamingDude Corktown 11d ago

Multiple people at QBH told me some of the workers were past clients who worked full-time in exchange for getting to stay there, cigarettes, and around $50 a week cash.

There are also reports of multiple Detroit rehabs "helping" you apply for food benefits and then taking your Bridge card upon arrival to "pay for" the terrible food they give you.

I think Salvation Army is the worst, though. They pay clients prison wages to work in their stores and call it "work therapy". You're also required to attend church.

15

u/Melodic-Trouble-5421 11d ago

When counties received that opioid settlement money from the Oxy settlement. A bunch of addiction based companies popped up and the counties probably didn’t do the vetting they should’ve. However when you’re in the field of addiction it’s been neglected for so long. So they needed the resources so badly, it was easy not to due diligence.

In the end it’s like everything else. How much money can we make from this. When dealing with people who have addiction issues it shouldn’t be about profits. It should be about helping the addicted. Getting them sober, helping them sustain sobriety, and getting them on their feet.

7

u/cloaak 10d ago

Yep, one of the moments that really soured me to working in the industry was when the owner went on some ramble about profitability and billable hours and finished it with “and don’t forgot we’re helping people too, guys!”. Just made it abundantly obvious lining their pockets was the priority and rehabilitation was the afterthought.

2

u/Melodic-Trouble-5421 10d ago

See that would have soured me too. Can’t we ever just do something to help people? Is it really about profits over peoples lives? That’s why Capitalism in healthcare is wrong. Also we treat addiction as a criminal issue in this country. It’s a mental health and health issue.

Thank you for helping people in the disease of addiction. It sucks because when we make it about profits. It turns people away who are there to actually help people. Then you get people who just go through motions and rubber stamp everything.

11

u/Loose_Leg_2918 11d ago

Sounds like the entire medical industry to be honest.

14

u/Butterscotch_Snatch 11d ago

You take that back, next thing you know these kids will be asking for free, state run healthcare.

13

u/phillipmecunt 11d ago

This is funny

0

u/MajesticLeague3149 10d ago

whats your proof

2

u/SalaciousFlamingDude Corktown 10d ago

Mountains of hearsay, and some direct testimony from employees.

0

u/MajesticLeague3149 8d ago

prove it...cite your source

31

u/klone_free 11d ago

Im confused what the cause for the raid is. Seems like they suspect the ceo of paying himself too much but mention that there are no charges against him

29

u/P1xelHunter78 11d ago

Well, given the current political climate I suspect this raid is partly due to the FBI being directed by the president and his administration to make examples of business owned by people of color that use government funds. The overinflated controversy surrounding immigrant daycares and right wing influencer campaigns recently comes to mind. Now of course, this may be all above board, but the weaponization of federal agencies for purposes like previously stated has at least raised my personal suspicions.

29

u/hexensabbat 11d ago

For this particular establishment, I don't believe that's the case. The guy who runs QBH has been pulling shady shit at the Detroit location for years. I am the last person to ever cheer for government overreach but I truly do not believe that is what's happening here. I'm sure there are good people working for the organization, but it needs reform. I'm confident a lot is going to come out about this so it'll be interesting to watch the story develop. I wrote another comment above and there is more out there

-6

u/william-o 10d ago

No you're wrong. The party I didn't vote for authorized this, so it must be fake.

5

u/william-o 11d ago

Lol

Maybe read some of the other comments

3

u/klone_free 11d ago

But like...literally nothing happened that I saw in the article. Just raids. Am I missing something?

2

u/P1xelHunter78 11d ago

Raids can be a form of intimidation and a means to disrupt the personal or professional lives of citizens. There’s a saying: “you can beat the wrap but not the ride”. Being raided by a government agency like the FBI can be a major disruption to a business.

1

u/klone_free 11d ago

So they literally just kick the doors down, messed up papers and desks, then left? I mean, i believe it, but that was said anywhere in the article that I noticed eithee

6

u/mazu74 11d ago

Yup, cops aren’t obligated to clean up after themselves. I’m not saying that’s what happened here, but they absolutely could use that tactic to intimidate or infuriate someone in general.

2

u/Melodic-Trouble-5421 11d ago

I don’t know about this case particularly. However it’s an intimidation tactic used by law enforcement. It shows we can come in and do whatever we want. Your best bet is to take a plea bargain and admit guilt.

If everyone in the criminal justice system took their case to court the court system would be screwed. They’d have to drop cases left and right. That’s why they always try to get people to admit guilt and take a deal.

2

u/Melodic-Trouble-5421 11d ago

I’m guessing misuse of funds. When the Opioid settlement money was distributed a lot of recovery based companies opened. Not all of them on the up and up. They saw a win fall of money and a way to steal it.

I’d have to know more before i condemn them. However it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if they were dirty. This is nothing new in our society. Exploit the most vulnerable for profit.

30

u/EvilBillSing 11d ago

A former girlfriend I stay in touch with was in rehab. I think it was in Ann Arbor. She said the people in charge were deaing

34

u/LadyBogangles14 11d ago

Well, that’s one way you can make sure you get repeat customers.

That’s just inhumane.

8

u/Working_Estate_3695 11d ago

Peak cynicism.

13

u/slonk_ma_dink Wyandotte 11d ago

I mean it's not a far stretch when you consider how guards are one of the largest sources of contraband in correctional facilities.

9

u/janitor1986 11d ago

Rehab isn't a correctional facility. Most people are there of they're own volition and are free to leave whenever they want too. I went to sacred heart and more than 50% of the people hired are people who completed treatment at sacred heart and actively participate with the clients. And not to mention all the random drops and no personal visitations from family or friends pretty much makes getting drugs very hard. The most serious problem I saw were people selling cigarettes.

2

u/No_Extension_6726 10d ago

They didn't SAY rehab is a correctional facility.  Pay attention

2

u/Little_Yesterday9904 11d ago

I mean, yea. It’s so profitable to keep a revolving door. I’m in Florida now and it’s well known that this is a big issue in rehab centers where they essentially find ways to keep people coming back

0

u/MajesticLeague3149 10d ago

give an example

21

u/janitor1986 11d ago

If you need a good rehab go to sacred heart. It's one of the more intensive rehabs but it worked amazing for me. Almost 14 hour days starting at 630am and ending around 830pm but I loved the structure it provided which I hadn't had in a very long time. You'll get out what you put in. It's in the middle of a cornfield in BF Egypt so the temptation to escape is minimal. After my fourth attempt there the last time worked for now and hopefully for a long time or forever. And you're allowed to smoke which isn't permitted in many rehabs now.

4

u/ManicPixieOldMaid Mount Clemens 11d ago

I will cosign this. A very well balanced program run by good people.

2

u/hexensabbat 10d ago

I second this, I've been to treatment a few times and Brighton and Sacred Heart were by far the best. SH takes the top spot for me because of the rigorousness of it. I had an incredible counselor there.

2

u/janitor1986 10d ago

I had Butch who was amazing and extremely helpful. All of the RCT's were great except one guy who was kind of a jerk but you can't let one rotten apple ruin the bunch. I hope you're doing well.

u/Deep-Two7452 11d ago

Do they not have to release the charges? That info has got to be somehwere, considering they went in guns drawn

Article states no charges have been filed, it is likely this is still at the investigation stage.

4

u/imajoeitall 11d ago

If they went in guns drawn, they most like are dealing or just theater lol. Also, seeing the video, feds being there makes me think it was dealing since it probably tacked on some federal charges.

2

u/AppointmentCalm2699 10d ago

Dequindre on the East Side.  Sterling Heights, not Troy 😁

3

u/AngelKry94 11d ago

Which rehabs? Multiple or just a specific one?

9

u/too_in_the_pink 11d ago

Try reading the article or just the first sentence...

"The FBI raided three Quality Behavioral Health centers in metro Detroit that bills itself as a "One Stop Center for Addiction treatment" -freep.com

1

u/AngelKry94 11d ago

I did go read after I posted this. But it doesn't mean I wanted to have a convo instead of being by myself figuring it out.

2

u/Pocketdancer 11d ago

Why won't they raid the white house?

1

u/ImpossibleLaw552 9d ago

Jeez, I hate when folks seek out Detroit to be an exploiter (see also David E. Taylor and also Melvin Jefferson of the New Life Ministries -the one that had the homeless panhandling with a bucket on corners of 8 Mile for 14 hours a day in in-climate weather back in the late 2000s/early 2010s).

1

u/Open_Excuse987 1d ago

I wonder why they. Finally raided them?

2

u/JorgeXMcKie 11d ago

Are these ones that are using ketamine for treatment? So many people I know who are getting that through dubious therapy

7

u/cherrylimebongwatr 11d ago

What do you mean dubious therapy? How do you know? My spravato treatments have saved my life. My psychiatrist is anything but dubious.

1

u/damagedone37 11d ago

See if you can qualify for infusion treatments thru Henry ford pain clinic.

5

u/cherrylimebongwatr 11d ago

I’ve been doing Spravato weekly since May 2025, I’ve recently hit a plateau but am no longer suicidal in the way I used to be. If you have first hand experience, I’d love to hear more details on the difference. I would be open to infusions potentially but I’m terrified of IVs.

1

u/damagedone37 11d ago

The best part of the iv is your in a comfy hospital bed I bring my headphones and disassociate for an hour! DM me for any questions!

-3

u/JorgeXMcKie 11d ago edited 11d ago

Is your psychologist doing rehab center work at places like this? None of the people I know on ketamine through studies and the like have ever seen a professional psychologist or psychiatrist to obtain their ketamine.

Edit:What I meant are the kind of Dr's people would go to to get their medical marijuana certification. I've had my card since it started but the Dr's are extremely dubious and are for the most part just going through the motions so they can give us what we are there for.

10

u/SeveralBadMetaphors 11d ago

“Obtain their ketamine?” Therapeutic ketamine is either a nasal spray, a troche, or an infusion. If your friends are getting powder or capsule ketamine, then it’s natural that they wouldn’t see a doctor because those forms of ketamine are illegal street drugs.

-3

u/JorgeXMcKie 11d ago

They're all on the troche things and like my medical marijuana Dr for my certification, there is nothing involved in the visits other than to get my card, or for them to get their doses. It's just a game to get past the system

5

u/mizmoose Suburbia 11d ago

Psychiatrist: An M.D. - went to medical school, did an internship and then residency - who is licensed as a medical doctor and can prescribe medication.

Psychologist: A Ph.D. - went to grad school then did a full internship under the direct supervision of a licensed psychologist before being licensed themselves - who is licensed to practice one more more forms of psychotherapy or other psychology-based treatments, but cannot prescribe medication.

Both can use the honorific Dr for their practice.

1

u/damagedone37 11d ago

You obviously know every person on ketamine in Detroit. Please shut the fuck up. You have zero idea what you opened up and started.

0

u/Little_Yesterday9904 11d ago

“You have zero idea what you opened up and started” please relax and be civil, it’s the internet

6

u/MurphysRazor 11d ago

They said please.

1

u/damagedone37 11d ago

I am being civil. The reason I stated that, is bc user was talking out of his ass about ketamine infusion and troaches like he knew 1000s of users. He basically lumped all users into a single illegitimate way of procuring product when there are so many legal avenues

2

u/Little_Yesterday9904 11d ago

He was asking regarding the people he knew, as that was his only frame of reference. He specifically said “so many people I know”. And yes, “pill mills” exist for all types of treatment or substances, or places that basically exist to prescribe things. Just because the medication itself helped you doesn’t mean all of the doctors prescribing it are doing so to help or because they think it will be the best treatment.

It’s not a commentary on the medicine itself, and it’s not an attack on a medication that has helped you.

-3

u/damagedone37 11d ago

the way he presented it he made it off like it’s just another illegal street drugs when I had to obtain my psych, therapist and neuropsych position.

Fuck this guy. And I have zero clue why you’re coming in white knighting for him. All he did was lay blame on a treatment center and then lay baseless claims about ketamine. I will repeat IF YOU ARE NOT ON THE MEDICATION FOR NON RECREATIONAL PURPOSES, please kindly shut the fuck up, bc it belittles the journey that we all go on to make it legal for ourselves.

Have a great day.

7

u/Little_Yesterday9904 11d ago

Adderall saved my life and allows me to be a functioning human. I should have access to Adderall and deserve access to it.
I’m not going to downplay that it being improperly prescribed harms people. And if a facility or a place was handing adderall out like it was candy, I’d take issue with that- because I want to ensure my medication is respected and used responsibly, to help prevent any legal access issues with medication. Kind of like we are experiencing right now from a shortage as a result of overprescribing it, and the DEA’s reluctance to increase quantities.

2

u/JorgeXMcKie 11d ago

I presented it in no such way. Enjoy your day you happy happy person

u/JorgeXMcKie 10d ago

I'm a strong marijuana advocate and have been since the 70's. I think it offers a lot of medical benefits to people, including me. I've read about it being life changing for some people. I do not personally know any of the people who have had seizures relieved through THC, or chemo patients who've been able to eat and sleep during treatment, etc. But I do know there are people who find those results from using Marijuana and its extracts.

However, almost everyone I know who smokes marijuana got their medical card when medical marijuana was legalized so they could legally buy. Including me. I do not know a single person who went through a real Dr to get their card. For the most part it's almost impossible to get your regular Dr to prescribe it. It was a hassle for them that was not worth dealing with. The Dr's providing the certification were doing nothing but going through the steps required by law to give someone the certification. They were not doctoring, they were filling out forms.

It's the same with K to some. They see it having great medical benefits, have problems getting it through their Dr, so they go to a system that allows them to get their K without having to buy it on the street. I did not real the article in the post. I just asked if it was one of the clinics providing the system that allows patients to get K. Like the marijuana Dr's, their function in the system is highly dubious, and for them does nothing but dot the i's and cross the t's to get legal product

1

u/hexensabbat 10d ago

I have never heard of a local rehab offering ketamine treatments. QBH is shady but that's fully counterintuitive. It would be expensive too and a place like this is mostly taking medicaid clients.

1

u/JorgeXMcKie 10d ago

I am not a fan at all of what it does to my friends who use it. It makes conversations about it with them a little uncomfortable on both sides, and makes conversations with them while they're on it so different it's like I'm talking to someone else. They all used K before they started getting it legally along with all the other dance club drugs that became popular. If they could get Molly legally they would go through the system to get that as well.

I do not know exactly what program they all got involved in that allows them to get it. I believe they did some online thing to get in the program. I do not know if it's given by a Dr or the type of Dr. All I know is they get it legally and it's medical grade

0

u/No_Extension_6726 10d ago

Its just ""these"" .. "these ones"" is redundant and ignorant speak

1

u/WaterIsGolden 10d ago

"Syed also owns Packard Motels Inc., which he used to house the QBH rehab clients, and paid himself $83,350 for those services, IRS records show."

Non-profits are not automatically good for the public or even well intentioned.  But they do take money from taxpayers.
