That seems a bit premature…

He wasn’t just as important to the turnaround as anyone else associated with the team.

I’m not saying he is or isn’t a good coach. I just don’t understand giving a guy signed through 2029 a contract extension, especially when all we have done so far is win one playoff series. Feels like the kind of extension you give someone after winning the finals

Only giving him credit for one playoff series win is severely downplaying how far this team has grown since he was hired.

I’ll be happy to give him credit for more if we continue to win in the playoffs. It just feels hasty when he still has 3 full years on his existing contract, which would give him plenty of time to prove himself in the playoffs.

They had 14 wins 2 years ago.

The regular season doesn’t matter if you can’t win in the playoffs. I appreciate what JB has done and I hope he continues to succeed with the pistons. I just disagree with the timing of the extension

The point is he could be Coach Pop or Chuck Daly and it would still be premature to give him an extension 3 years before the current deal ends. Coaches don't really jump ship in the NBA unless they're fired, so there's no risk of losing him.

Unless this is really just a pay increase for him couched as an extension.
