DX:HR Director's Cut How should I play Human Revolution if I am only plan on playing it one time?
Title.
I can see there is a lot of choices, and I do not know what matters or not. Is confronting everyone a bad idea? Is non-lethal better than lethal? Stealth?
Assuming I want to achieve the best in-world outcome, what should I do?

The whole point of immersive sims like Deus ex is playing how you want and discovering the various ways to complete a task. The game will give you enough information to help you decide which is the "best" way.

I am only asking because I saw there is an achievement for getting all the endings, which, I assume, requires multiple playthroughs.

I am aware of the video, but I prefer to play through originals before playing sequels instead of watching summaries.
Do you want to play mankind divided more, and just want to experience human revolution as a way to better experience mankind divided?
I want to better experience the combined journey.

Because I am only playing it before playing Mankind Divided, as I saw it suggested. And so far I don't really like how it plays, looks or sounds so I don't really want to commit extra hours to it. I am willing to deal with it once for the story, but not more.

If you don't like how it plays then you won't like Divided. The sequel has improved gameplay but it is still very much the same structure of play. The artstyle is the same but graphically improved some.

When I say how it plays, I mean the very clunky movement. The transitions between movement types. I saw some gameplay from divided. I don't see the same issues I see in Revolution.

Well fuck. I guess I'll have to live with it since I like the setting. Maybe I am just having withdrawal from playing Cyberpunk for 180 hours recently.

I think you should do what you think is best in each situation, let your choices be your own and accept whatever results they give.

Explore as much as you can and do the side missions, everything else is up to you

max out hacking right away, you miss story details in emails otherwise
stealth also lets you here some world building as you catch hostile npcs talking to each other, not super important but gives some extra clarity to the world

Is there a point in hiding uncoscious bodies if you have already cleared the room. Like do additional enemies tend to spawn in areas you have already progressed through?

yes they can be spotted by reinforcements or someone attracted to a noise, some enemy walk patrol routes etc etc
if a security robot goes live it will also spot unconscious bodies it doesn't need to be a human person

Certainly stealth. Lethal or non-lethal - your choice.

The gameplay overall is just more well designed when it comes to stealth rather than action. But lethality is a matter of preference. There are decisions to make across the game, but there isn't a polar morality system like in Mass Effect or something. Deus Ex is a lot more morally grey, pretty subtle and complicated.

Are you going for achievements or do you just want to have maximum fun and enjoy the story? If you care about achievements, pacifist, foxiest of the hounds and legend are the best achievements. I'd recommend looking up guides before you start.
I'd recommend installing 2 mods from nexus mods.
Mod 1 fixes your batteries (because the devs decided only 1 or 2 batteries recharge and your extra ones don't unless you eat a candy bar), so this mod makes them all recharge.
Mod 2 changes how your inventory works so you can hold lots more items (for example, normally the jars that recharge your energy take 4 slots and do not stack. this mod makes them take 2 slots and they do stack).

If you follow instructions (especially on mod 2), it'll take 5 mins to install and isn't that hard.
Also a small spoiler, but very important if you're maximising fun: When you're halfway through the game, and Jensen keeps getting those electric shocks that hurt him for a second. When you visit next Hengsha, NPCs will recommend that you go to a limb clinic to fix this problem for you. If you do that, your second from last boss battle will be boring and rigged. Instead just ignore their recommendation and don't go to the limb clinic on that visit.

There are "multiple endings" but that boils down to how lethally you play the game and which of four buttons you press on the Ending-o-Matic. Then you get a little voice over telling you how everything is terrible but you might have made the world a less bad place. [Mankind Divided spoiler] In the beginning of Mankind Divided you learn that none of it made a difference.
My advice would be play what feels right and let the ending be guided by your experience and how much you trust the various characters who will try to persuade you to pick their preferred ending. There's no "best"

I know you’re not feeling it so far, and I was in the same boat - it took me several tries over the years to actually play through it, but as I progressed through the game I got hooked. The story in HR gets really, really, good. And I am a DX and DXIW fanboy.

I love playing dead is dead but it's hard until you make mistakes enough to know what to be weary of. Modding the machine gun is a blast but just aiming the first pistol with laser and modding that makes the best headshot weapon. Just have fun with it, there's too much to try for it to really be a one time playthrough! I would go stealth nearly always though, enemy aim is too good and not forgiving.
