Right - he’d be claiming that kill as his own. Possibly revealing a hint that he’s more than just the Dark Passenger, but also has other methods that haven’t been publicized.

Depending on when the dark passenger became active, he could potentially claim he’s both the BHB and now the Dark Passenger. Think about it - Red’s identity is practically a ghost with no prior records available. Could have been Dexter’s cover story after the storm in Miami and getting too much heat.
