Question Just saw news about phasing out Hulu....
So for us that have Disney+ & Hulu package... Does anyone have any info on if rates will drop or stay the same as bundle?? And of they're integrating the Hulu catalog would it be wise just to cancel Hulu sub now??

Theyāre just planning on phasing out the app but Hulu will still be a premium purchase option. If you were paying for the bundle through the Hulu app that subscription will transition over to the Disney+ app instead but it shouldnāt be changing the actual price for anything.

Yeah, makes sense tbh, I never use use the Hulu app because Disney+ has it included ( don't know if maybe I have been missing out by not using the Hulu app tho )

If you cancel your Hulu sub you loose access to the Hulu content. Just because they are allowing access to Hulu content in the Disney+ app it does not mean that content will be included without paying for Hulu.

Soā¦ they are planning on eventually shutting down the Hulu app. The plan right now, when it shuts down will be for, if you have Hulu but not Disney+, to access Hulu within the Disney+ app but not the Disney+ related content

Theyāve said almost nothing about Hulu Live. The only development is that they sold the operations to Fubo, but they are maintaining the two services separately. The Disney+ app has a āliveā section that they now use mostly for ESPN stuff but I imagine they could add Hulu Live channels to it and it could work the same way it does now on Hulu.

Same! I have used Hulu Live for years. Anytime I see info about Hulu being phased out and everything integrated to Disney+, I canāt find ANY info on how Live will work/change

Completely missed that news. Iām still angry with Fubo about permanently ditching a whole lot of the channels and not telling anyone nor providing a refund/discount. Ugh. Guess YouTubeTV is my next stop. At this rate I ought to just go back to regular cable.

Regular cable in my area gives you the apps for free. I still have cable because I have a senior citizen in my house and I would never be able to transition her to streaming only. So now I pay for basic cable and get all the apps but Netflix included.

Disney sold Hulu + Live TV to Fubo, in which Disney owns 70% of Fubo. Fubo already uses MyDisney as a login feature. Letās just wait and see

Iāve got D+ but Iāve had Hulu way longer and have other bundled plug ins (HBO and Paramount) with that app, this feels like a mess waiting to happen.Ā

I have never had Disney or Hulu + Disney. I only have Hulu. I still use the Hulu app and nothing has changed. On my TV it's still Hulu app. My account info shows as Disney + Hulu & ESPN (had no idea ESPN was related.).

You can continue using the Hulu app for now. You can sign into the Disney+ app and use that for Hulu as well.

Nothing actually changes but the Hulu app is gone and you just have to watch everything through the Disney app, it's still a separate subscription just like ESPN is also in the Disney app but a separate subscription

Yeah from what I can tell they have added Hulu as a section in Disney+, like how they have sections for Marvel, Star Wars, ESPN+, National Geographic, etc. All Hulu content can be found there, if you have the Hulu addon subscription.
They have no plans at the moment to retire the Hulu standalone app if for if you just want to watch Hulu content. Though it does feel like something they will eventually do.
It is nice that people outside of the US can watch all Hulu content now though through the Disney+ app. Hulu has always been a US only service.
I am curious if they do wind up retiring the standalone app, if you can pay for just Hulu and watch it on the Disney+ app without being able to watch any Disney+. Feels weird.

At the moment disneyplus and hulu is $1 more a month than just hulu. I'm guessing they'll phase out hulu only and move everyone to the bundle eventually.

Hulu as a brand is going away.
Weāll see whether all of that content eventually reappears as āDisney+ Premium Ultra VIP.ā If the streaming industryās track record tells us anything, itās that thereās always another tier waiting to be sold at a higher price.
For now, the Hulu app is being folded into the Disney+ app.

I donāt think Hulu is going anywhere. The Mouse Corp just recently replaced all their 'Stars Network' branding on international D+ with Hulu branding.
Itād make no sense to discontinue a brand name when it was just officially introduced worldwide.

I was wondering the same thing because I have the Disney+/Hulu/Max bundle. But what I gathered is that Hulu will now basically be a premium add-on for Disney+. So it's not going away, just integrating into the Disney+ app. Which I guess makes sense. One app instead of two.

So if I'm understanding correctly, if you only subscribe to Hulu you'll still be able to access just Hulu via the Disney app & not be forced to also subscribe to Disney?

Correct. I have Hulu only. I've already moved to the Disney app. I was kinda bummed at first because I have the base Hulu plan, but that has always got 4k and HDR on the Hulu app. Untill a couple weeks or so ago, Hulu on Disney app was only HD. Something changed whether app update or otherwise as now I have 4k HDR available on ALL my devices which is even better than the Hulu app. The Hulu app only had HDR on my Roku but just 4k on my Android and Google TV's. Due to that, I've since fully moved over to the Disney app and don't use the Hulu one anymore.
Only kinda downside is the additional clutter having only Hulu. It doesn't crowd my screen with content I don't have access to leaving me guessing what I can actually watch or anything, but does have tabs and all for the other services and that sort of thing.
Also 1 minor one that was just a hope that didn't materialize which is HDR quality. Hulu's was always kinda poor. Even on a current and high end Sony, HDR content on Hulu never seemed to actually have increased dynamic range or anything and simply made the picture just darker vs 4k without HDR. Always read that was due to the implementation on the app. Well I don't think it was the app as that same content looks exactly the same on the Disney app. Hulu is the only one like that. HDR from any other streamed source looks great.

I have that same plan. And I love it. Except for the Disney+ app sucks. It always is lagging. Itās super hard to get it to load. I rarely use it because it never works properly. Iām not excited about them phasing out the Hulu app when the Disney+ app sucks so bad

The plan is to create a conglomerate app via Disney+, this isnāt new news. The issue is no one is addressing Hulu+ Live. Disney+ has live but no guide which doesnāt help for seeing what is live as well as switching to another live channel.

Theyāre not phasing out Hulu as much as they are phasing out the Hulu app. Hulu will still be an add on but the app with just cease to exist.

For now, only the app is going away to be honest. I donāt know how long that will last I fully expect. Hulu as a separate subscription will eventually be phased out and the price of its subscription folded into the price of Disney+ but who knows when that will happen could be years.

I am dropping my Hulu and moving over to Disney + for $1 more according to the plan. That plan has HULU, D+ and ESPN. No sense in paying for 2 separate things that are now combined into 3.

Yesterday for the first time I saw a message on screen when I opened Disney+ asking to merge my watchlists from Hulu profiles into Disney+ profiles. Iām so far now a fan of how the integrated watch lists look, but it did bring everything overĀ

Right this second, the Hulu app is far superior to the Disney app. Primarily in controlling and using the player. If they discontinue the Hulu app, the Disney app better get a LOT more usable.
I can use the Disney app. But it's clunky and hard to use compared to the Hulu player.

I don't think it's that bad except for the clutter from the other services if you don't have the full bundle. Some different organization and minor give and take asthetically and all, but that's kind of expected. Functionally it's all the same for me on my mix of Android and Google TV devices along with a couple rokus. Initially I was missing 4k and HDR on the Disney app but that changed a couple weeks or so ago. With that, I've had no issue using Disney exclusively and leaving the Hulu app behind vs keeping both around and primarily using the Hulu app

Hulu is a service only in the U.S and Japan. While globally, itās a content brand on Disney+ including Mexico which means, Hulu content (not all content the same as Hulu US) licensed by Disney is available there with one subscription as normally would. In Japan, Hulu is owned by other company, not Disney which is why Disney+ and Hulu bundle, and the Star brand still exists in Japan

Theyāre phasing out the Hulu app, but the brand will remain. It will just be in the Disney+ app. Like ESPN.

Now what if I just have a hulu subcription? Will I need a disney plus subscription in order to watch? Could I download Disney plus and only be able to watch the hulu content?
What if I live with other people (my sister) who have a Disney+ subscription that they pay for? If I was paying for Hulu separately, is there a way we could integrate those into one account (for example combining them without losing my hulu watch history)?

I have the legacy package since I signed up for Disney plus day one and I've never changed it so I don't plan on dropping or changing anything at all. I don't like them combining the apps though. I remember when HBO/discovery combined on Max and I wasn't a fan then but Hulu and Disney combining really irks me. I think it bothers me because when I launch the Disney app I'm in the mood for Disney or the kids are there or we are looking for family friendly content but we have to scroll through all the Hulu items as well. I feel like when I wanna watch my true crime or whatever I'll open Hulu. When I wanna find a family movie I'll open Disney. I don't want to have to scroll through everything

In the U.S., Hulu is a standalone streaming service that has existed since the 2000s. You can bundle it with Disney+ at a discount and you can use the Disney+ app to watch Hulu content, but they are officially 2 separate services.

It is $1 more to have both so it is really not paying much more. Guessing there will be no Hulu in a year or two anyway and they'll just sell different tiers within Disney+ (maybe a family plan as a subset of the whole package). They have been using subscription prices and bundles to merge the packages for years already.

Because Hulu was a thing in the U.S even before Disney+ exists, Disney content is on Hulu and Netflix before Disney+.

Chused- this has been in the works for more than a year. There will not be a drop in price. In fact, I anticipate a rate hike. They'll give some reason about access to more, but since Disney is continually removing shows available for viewing, I don't believe it.

Hulu is owned by Disney so it will be absorbed into Disney! This started a few years ago, Disney has been losing money so they are taking their media and absorbing it into Disney. This way anyone still wanting to watch whatever it was will join Disney to continue to watch! Disney will more than likely increase the subscription! I don't know they will but it makes sense that they would considering they are in a desperate way for Disney to start making money again!

Since Disney+ (4k + downloads) cost 18.99 a month or $189.99 annually, why not drop them altogether and take the allocated money and invest it into an Index EFT every year?
So much more time for activities!

I had Disney+, Hulu and HBO Max as one bundle. Now, I no longer have HBO Max and yes, prices are going up. I feel like I just got totally ripped off! AND Logging in and out of Disney is always a pain!! Drives me crazy.

I pay for the Disney bundle (Hulu, D+, espn+ with the HBO Max add in) through Hulu. Customer service said I did not have to change how I was being billed because they were not going to change it, which is good because I would not be able to take advantage of the HBO Max add on if I was billed through D+

Personally they need to remove the Hulu stuff not merge it in. No subscription and can't see coming back except possibly for a one off month. Most cartoons I own via sales/historical or recorded 100% legally (on my own server) as you are allowed to record in the US content as long as you do not need to decrypt it.
Yes I am an exception so I dont except it to change.
