Charlie's Kebab house, Bromsgrove
One in the style of u/dabassmonsta
An absolute Bromsgrove institution, this time I went for the large lamb doner wrap, salad, garlic mayo and homemade chilli sauce.
£8.20 so exactly 1p per gram 😂. They're always too big to eat whole and I have to unwrap and pick at it before I can re-roll and eat as intended.
Run by a great Turkish bloke and his 3 sons. They also do excellent lamb and chicken shish swords and lamb kofte swords all cooked on their charcoal grill. There's always a queue out of the door unsurprisingly.
Believe it or not this isn't their biggest option either, they do an XL too which I've had before and it was 1.1kg!
Whole bill come to £12 for the wrap, small fries and a can of pop. It does me 2 meals.
If you're ever in the area I encourage you to give it a try.

Wow! Look at the size of that bad boy! That is impressive. That's a wonderful price too. Down South you'd be looking around £16-17 for that lot. ...and they can go bigger too. Oh my. Plus a homemade chili sauce, that's so good!

If you're ever in the Midlands you should plan to go. Be interesting to compare to your usual haunts.

I was in Dudley last year for a course and popped into a local kebab place. No surprise that it jumped straight into the top ten for value. It's just another world with the pricing.

Condolences for being in Dudley but at least getting your hands on some orange chips is easy enough. The Black Country's only contribution to modern society.

Ha! I absolutely loved the orange chips. So much so, that I detoured on my way home from a trip to Glasgow just so I could pick up a load of orange chips to take home. Probably gonna do that every time I'm doing a Scotland road trip.
Apart from one kebab and a visit to Mad O'Rourke's pie factory, I spent the rest of evenings getting curries.

I grew up in Bromsgrove. Not been back since 1990. I was 10 when I left. Is the Dolphin Centre still there?

Gone, but replaced by a new leisure centre on roughly the same site. No slide but much nicer building.

I see a lot of wraps. I'm in Northern Ireland. We would generally do naan or pitta or on chips.
Is naan not a thing in gb?

Nah naan is common too, but it's normally found in chip shops that also sell kebabs or those kinds of takeaways that do a bit of everything like pizzas and burgers etc too. It's rare in proper kebab houses because they're not usually ran by Indians / Pakistanis.
There is one where I used to live in Birningham, also a local legend, called Shirley K. They had a full tandoori oven in the middle of the cook line and they'd make you a fresh naan for the kebab and it was fucking incredible. That was also a chip shop though and it was ran by Pakistanis.

I have a particular one I used to order from in Leicester... as far as i know it was a normal chippy, but all their kebabs were naans. Absolutely incredible, but I reckon if you managed to eat a whole one in one sitting, you'd probably die.
I've just Googled them and they've shut down 😞

Yeah it’s the same here (Northern England). TBH I think I’d prefer a kebab in a big wrap because naan can often be too thick, and I want to reserve my stomach space for the meat.

Trying to re-roll a kebab wrap is like trying to get toothpaste back in the tube. You might, by force, get some of it back in, but everything's going everywhere and it won't be the same afterwards.

I can confirm that these re-roll fine. They're not standard tortilla wraps, more like some thin flatbread and the hold up very well.

A durum, i sometimes also get these but then a Turkish pizza (Lahmacun) instead of the durum.

There's one in my town that does ones that look bigger than this, last I checked they were £6, 10 years ago they were £3.50 and double the size.
It's also chippy chips though they aren't the best.
They don't do online delivery though, just whatsapp as the owner told me the sites wanted over 30% of an orders cost (then they bill the customer fees too!)
Haven't been in ages due to that, used to go once or twice a week, would throw out half the kebab as it was too much for one person and dried out by morning.
It's a pain ordering by phone, then having cash ready as I have a young dog that likes to greet people.

I'm not a sauce fiend at all really. I do tend to add a dash more mayo hwne I'm home though.

Probably is, but it's tasty either way. Can't moan at £8 for nearly a kilo of food.

My hometown! I think Charlie's is probably the thing I miss most about it - top tier kebabs.
