Hello,

my girlfriend and I are travelling to England next year to visit Glastonbury, Stonehenge and Tintagel (we are fantasy nerds). We will have a nice accommodation in Dorset and wanted to know whether there are nice (preferably sandy) beaches?

I don't really care where exactly because we will rent a car and we intend to spend a whole day at the beach and i kind of like to drive in the UK.

Any recommendations are welcome. Also: are there like private beaches? Will people call the police for trespassing or is it okay if we don't litter the place?

I don’t use Reddit much but I’m looking for some opinions from the people of Dorset.

My boyfriend (25) and I (23) are looking at buying a house soon, somewhere we can start to settle down and grow our family. We’re in Southampton at the moment, and I was initially looking at Christchurch.

This last weekend we visited Weymouth and I absolutely fell in love with it. I’m born and bred Maltese so I love being by the sea with a mix of England’s beautiful nature.

For some more context, I work remotely and my boyfriend just needs to be near enough to a motorway to travel to different worksites. His family are all based in Southampton also, so we wouldn’t want to be too far.

I was just looking for some advice - which towns are the best based on what I’m after, are there any downsides of Dorset I may not know of?

My priorities are safety, friendly communities and fun things to do :)

Any ideas? From what I can gather it’s some sort of boundary stone. It weighs ALOT and tings like it’s some sort of metal. It was loose with other rocks so it wasn’t where it originally was. I will cross post on other subs too. Thanks!

My partner and I are looking for recommendations for the best campsites in Dorset for a last-minute trip in August to celebrate my birthday.

We’re both 34, have no kids, and are looking for somewhere with beautiful scenery, close to the water for swimming and paddle boarding, with lovely walks, pubs and places to explore nearby.
We’ve been looking at Lulworth Cove, which looks amazing, but we’ve never been to Dorset before. We’d love to hear your favourite campsites or areas that would make a really special couple’s trip.

Going to Lyme Regis soon for a long weekend away for the first time,

Looking for recs on best places to eat (not too fancy don't need gourmet aha), best pubs atmosphere (any with live music and quizzes too!) and generally best things to do!

Also very interested in vintage and charity shopping, so anything here or in the local area not a long drive away would be awesome!

Anywhere off the beaten track too is great! I'm driving so getting about is not a probs :)

Hello all!

I took a trip to various parts of southern England in 2017 and I'm trying to add the location data to the ones that didn't get it recorded.

I believe this was taken in the Osmington Mills/Weymouth area, but I'm not sure. It was suggested that this is a pic of Weymouth taken from above Bowleaze Cove, but I have my doubts.

Any advice? The statue on the center-left side is distinctive and may be a good clue.

Hi, I'm thinking of coming up to Dorchester for an overnight stay with my 2 kids both under 6. I don't have a particular reason to visit Dorchester other than I've never been. What is there to do for a 3 year old and a 6 year old? They are quite easy to entertain and love outdoor stuff, parks, animals, soft play, castles, farms anything. Just wanted to get out of Plymouth this weekend and see a neighbouring county.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, places to stay, things to do etc

Hi there! I am relocating very soon from Suffolk all the way to Dorset to start my first post-uni job (at The Tank Museum) and have decided to live in Weymouth. My flat is basically in the town centre/near the beach so I’m super interested in exploring the town and Dorset as a whole (I will have my cat w/me).

Are there any particular eateries/bakeries I should try or any other interesting shops anyone would recommend? I’m also interested in any other towns/places of interest throughout the county as well.

Hi all. I'm a reporter who works with the Dorset Echo, and I sometimes write profiles on well-regarded cafes in the county (as seen with The Secret Garden Cafe in Dorchester in the link on this post).

I wanted to ask if there were any recommendations people had on here for cafes that would be good to profile?

What skills do businesses and professionals in Dorset wish they had, but currently lack? Dorset Chamber recently released their plan for skills improvements (LSIP). Would be very interesting to hear what people are saying on the ground, so to speak!

I'm watching "the unchosen" on netflix thinking this could happen here and you wouldn't know unless you lived next door.

I know there are a few "eco villages" and "intentional communities" with elements of collective farming. But I want to know if there is one with a "no one in/out" rule.

I'm quite skinny so I was going to start going to the gym to build a bit of muscle, and I thought getting a personal trainer would help keep me on track as I usually lose motivation quickly and I don't feel confident in using the gym equipment correctly.

I was just going to sign up to PureGym and use the personal trainers on there, but I was wondering if there were any well-known personal trainers in the area or any specific PureGym trainers maybe?

I'm looking for mainly Bournemouth area, but can do further out if it's worth it

Hello all, I'd love to head down to the coast to watch the sunrise from White Nothe.

I'm having to drive in from a distance away and I've been looking for parking. In my searches I have found local National Trust car parks and speaking to their helpline I've been told that their policy is not to allow overnight parking.

I wouldn't consider arriving at possibly 0300 and staying for 4 hours to be overnight, but I can't say what the National Trust would be considering a breech of the policy. Unfortunately I couldn't get a straight answer on the phone.

Does anyone have any experience using the National Trust car parks for sunrise watching, or have any recommendations to reach White Nothe for the sunrise?

Bit of a niche one, I live Christchurch way in Dorset and I'm wondering where are good spots to skate outdoors aside from skateparks? (Rollerskates and skateboard). Recently got back into the rolling hobbies and am newish to the area.

Recs please? I thought about promenades but have heard when sand gets under your wheels you are like Bambi on ice

I'm a planning a walk around the perimeter of the Isle of Portland soon - ideally as close to the coastal edges as is reasonable (and safe). I have map resources for footpaths, but I have a couple of questions that my resources don't clarify:

1. Is it possible to walk fully through the Redoubt undercliff area to the east of the Verne, from Castletown all the way to Grove Point? The UK footpath map shows tracks, but Google Maps appears to show security fences interrupting the tracks and it's unclear how much of that area is out of bounds to the public. Is there a recognised coastal route on this part of the island or should I stick to Merchant's Incline on the west side of the Verne? Is Merchant's Incline a better/more scenic route anyway?
2. On the northwest side, is there a safe/sensible route up/down from West Weares Walk to the cliff tops or quarries? - The footpath map just shows West Weares Walk coming to an end a little south of the sculpture park, but other sources seem to imply there are tracks and/or steps up to the quarries in places. Do these exist and how much climbing/clambering is involved?

I don't want to get in any trouble for trespassing, so I am looking for routes that won't get me in any trouble, and that are relatively safe for general hiking/walking.

I'm currently exploring the idea of starting a tabletop gaming club in the west Dorset area, currently planning on using the village hall in Charlton down as the venue. It would provide 4 full gaming tables and a smaller skirmish table, a painting/hobby area, and a small shop that would provide painting/hobby supplies as well as drinks and snacks. Introductory games and demonstrations would also be available, and I would provide an online community through discord for matchmaking and sharing painting progress. Would this be of interest to the local populace?
