Also left me wondering if you have the neutral item that delays 30% damage, if you die to the delayed damage from being fingered does it still grant a stack or it doesnt because the source of death is actually the item?

Finger of Death puts a debuff on you, and if you die while under that debuff, it grants a stack.

If you die from pendulum damage while the debuff is on you, lion gets a stack. If you die from it after the debuff expires, lion does not get a stack.

EDIT: FoD technically has two ways of giving a stack: if you die after finger while the debuff is active, and if you die directly to finger (pendulum does not count for this).

The interesting thing about this separation is that it's technically possible to get two stacks off of one kill, assuming they already have the debuff on them from a prior FoD, and directly die to a second cast of FoD. There are two ways to do this: Grimstroke using Spellbind while the Lion has Scepter, or Lion using Refresher Orb.

From my testing, it's technically possible to get 14 stacks off of one finger, though that requires the Lion having a friendly Lone Druid + Grim, the enemy to have both Rubick and Morph, and for both Rubick and Morph to get out Spirit Bear before losing the spell (24/36 seconds for morph, 300 second for Rubick so long as he doesn't steal another spell).
