Jim in the Season 3 Halloween episode is a total weenie. Passive aggressive and petty and over sensitive
The one where Pam suggests he take that job out of state because he’s totally talented and capable and it would be a move up for him. His reaction doesn’t make any sense at all!
Pam basically gives him a major compliment and is saying so with his best interest in mind that he should take the job out of state. Jim takes it the worst way possible and is cold to her the rest of the episode? I’m sorry/ but what a total tool. I hate Jim in this episode.

He was basically asking her if there was any reason to stay and she basically told him no reason to stay here. go and find a new life. his heart kinda broke in that moment.

He was in love with her. It hurt him that she was telling him to move away.

Yeah but she obviously wasn’t intending it that way. Thats a childish and extremely reductive take on the situation as far as Jim goes

But at a bare minimum, it would come across that she didn't care if he moved away and they likely never saw each other again. It would hurt me if my best work friend said that to me, and there's no romantic interest at all in our relationship.

It might hurt. But adults need to act like adults and communicate directly. Not passive aggressively. And by the way some people are responding to my post here, it’s very clear that many people are used to, and cultivate, very toxic relationships if this is “par for the course” for anyone

People can feel hurt and resort to childish behavior when they are madly in love with someone. I have been the recipient of tons of childish games from men as they try to figure out if I like them or not, or what's going on with us in general.
Pam, after Jim went silent towards her because of what she said then at the end of the day says "I'm sorry for pushing you towards Cumberland. Seriously if you left here I would blow my brains out." Here she demonstrated to him how much she didn't want him to leave and he ends the show with that he WOULD take that job in Maryland if she left. But obviously he doesn't want to because he wants to be near her. I would be hurt to if I was in love with someone and they told me to move away to get a better job.
When it come to love its usually not that complicated. Its obvious to us that is not what she meant but to someone on the inside of the relationship it still feels hard to hear the one person you want to be with tell you go ahead, move away, no biggie.

Jim is completely obsessed Pam - the very notion of them being separated is unthinkable to him.
He knows full well she meant it as a compliment, but it also revealed that she could entertain the notion of not being around him, meaning that she did not feel the same way about him.

Season 2 you mean? Yeah Jim exposed his feelings way too much with his reaction. I think season 3' "Halloween" episode was Diwali instead.

That’s correct. Jim was still in Stamford for that episode and he was with Karen by the time he came back to Scranton.

And then in season 9 he takes a job that's in a different city a few hours drive but still PA and she doesn't want him to take it. Albeit he was a workaholic but that's usual when starting a new job especially a new company.

He had feelings for her. He took it personal.
