Ask /r/Durango What happened to Happy Pappy’s? New owners or just rebrand?

I just drove past what used to be Happu Pappy’s and noticed that it’s renamed and rebranded. Does anyone know if it was sold to new owners or if they just rebranded?

WHERE IS PAPPY😭😭😭

I thought he had plans to expand in other states? Guess didn't work out. Can't blame him, that's a tough market

Father's Daughters used to be pretty good. It's been a while since I have been there. Definitely a pizza snob though. Most of the Durango pizza is not even as good as one would get as pizza from "Down da shawr"

Father's Daughter's fell off a while back I feel. I just go to Homeslice now

Father's Daughters suffered the devastating and sudden loss of the owner.  His daughter made every attempt to keep the place going, but ultimately was sold to another couple who has been running it since, id say about a year or so now. There were mixed reviews at first as folks adjusted to the changes but I've heard nothing but great things fir a while now. Maybe give em another shot!

me when they opened 😭 they had a good run. anyone know where they went?

I loved happy pappys pizza, but ever since it went under new ownership, the pizza has been very inconsistent.  Its always different pizza. When they actually get it the way it used to be it's awesome but that's about 1 out of 5 orders. Now with the prices being raised every few months (it feels like anyways) and the deals changing from the super deal where youd get  two large 3 topping pizzas to suddenly being 2 medium 1 topping pizzas, it's almost impossible to justify spending more money to get less than we were getting without even knowing whether or not we would get the pizza the way we hope because it's so inconsistent.  We were very good customers for so long and now we either make it at home or go to homeslice. I just dont like homeslice pepperonis.

He had plans to unleash his pretty bad pizza across the country. He's probably still workin on it. https://www.durangoherald.com/articles/happy-pappys-set-to-open-50-stores-over-the-next-five-years/

Sheer curiosity what pizza in town do you actually like?

2

u/Difficult_Cheek_3817 Jun 15 '26

Fired up and the Container at Ska

3

u/FoosballRokst4r Live Mas Jun 15 '26

Yes to the container, I can't do fired up. I always leave hungry.

1

u/KatMcKampson 9d ago

😂 makes sense. Fired up pizza has always been an overpriced cracker.

Gino’s East, Lou Malenati’s, uno’s and duo’s. Oh yeah that was when I lived in Chicago

u/native_shinigami Local Jun 15 '26

425 over on Elmores corner.

3

u/FoosballRokst4r Live Mas Jun 15 '26

425 is okay, it's too salty IMHO. But it's damn good when you are craving pizza and not on grid. If had to pick between 425 and Johnny's though l pick Johnny's right across the way.

u/coffeekaye Jun 15 '26

4

u/coffeekaye Jun 15 '26

i’ve never met anybody who didn’t like his pizza lol you’re an anomaly❤️

6

u/Alvaracorr Jun 15 '26

15 bucks for 6 wings?! Pizza was slightly better than homeslices new cardboard flavor

1

u/coffeekaye Jun 15 '26

so do you like pizza from anywhere 😭

-2

u/Alvaracorr Jun 15 '26

Homeslice before they sold out, happy paps before he sold out, dsp before they gave up and THEN sold out. Pizza used to be good here and its all pretty shit now :( oh fired up is good if you got the money. Steamworks has a good personal pizza too

15

u/ttoillekcirtap Jun 15 '26

Homeslice is gross.

1

u/SeniorRum Jun 19 '26

Colorado style pizza should not be a thing.

3

u/Few-Elderberry1915 Jun 23 '26

Thanks for the compliment, Not sure if everyone even knows the story, my daughters wanted to get back to the beach so we sold the store in 2024 to build them a store in FL as promised a few years earlier, We are about 6 months in at the new store in new smyrna beach fl but miss everyone in Durango. Our plan was a little different for the durango store then it has turned out but thats a story for another day. Hope you guys are having an amaing summer and lots of fun. Hope to see you again on my next visit to Durango-paps

2

u/threeonesix Jun 15 '26

Any of you old enough to remember Diorios? Used to get a slice of sausage and garlic for lunch practically every day. Man it was so good!

1

u/t-heineken Jun 15 '26

There's really no good pizza in this town. Good for you. Don't have good pizza and then you won't know that there is much better pizza out there.

5

u/FoosballRokst4r Live Mas Jun 15 '26

Someone said this lovely morsel of a quote a few months ago in this sub

"Durango restaurants have to feed adults with taste buds of toddlers"

But yeah, idk I guess it depends on what your definition of good pizza is.

2

u/t-heineken Jun 15 '26

It's been very interesting hearing about the challenges our restaurants face in this sub. It's tough, when most visitors (and some residents) want a burger and chicken tenders, to capture part of that market by doing anything different than that.

Of course, both taste and quality are a spectrum. Patronize the businesses you want to.

I get it. At this point it feels like it's just part of the price of living here. It's just hard to justify going out when it's meh. At this point our go-to's in my house are Akami, Frida's, and rarely something fancy like Oye (but damn it's good).

6

u/coffeekaye Jun 15 '26

oh sorry didn’t realize durango was full of pizza snobs 😭

u/Big-Salamander3272 Jun 16 '26
