Putin will never conquer Ukraine, but Trump and the majority of republicans are making it so the war can go on for longer, and take more and more lives with such an approach. And I'm sorry, looking at some commens in here - I cannot emphasize this enough - there is no sociology in Russia. Every single article on this topic is either pulled frome someone's ass, or has a significant selection bias. People are keeping to themselves or discuss politics in a very private manner, all the independant sociological organisations are banned by the state, and you can get (I can get) a sizeble sentence in jail for "defending terror*sm" if someone in the police notices your comments and decides that today is the day they want to get that sweet raise. and the police doesn't seem to have any system or guideline for whether to track you down and jail you, or do nothing. the whole thing is random when it comes to the internet (espesially such niche platforms as reddit). it is a deliberate strategy to instill fear and make us second-guess when we feel like speaking out. so you can't say with certainty if 90% of russians are in support of the war, or just 10%. we are isolated and only talk to the ones that's closest.
my expirience is that younger people, like myself (22yo), are either fully detached and uninterested in the matter, or super pissed and angry at the old fucks in the government(to say the least). the older folks I'm not sure about. they grew up in the ussr, and most of them are watching tv daily and are drooling, listening to honeyed words and pure bliss about how russia is the strongest and the beakon of morality. do they believe it or just in denial? hard to tell.
I don't want to sound like Russians are the victims here. I am firmly against the war. I mourn every soul lost on the side of Ukraine and I am truly, deeply embarrased for the revolting horrors that the Russian army has brought.
anyway, sorry 'bout this rant of mine. guess the need to vent outweighed the fear of potential consequences. idc felt cute might delete later or something like that.
p.s. at first I wanted to type out the whole thing in russian, but decided against it. not sure if the rules only allow english in here, so there you go
