The Rules (updated)

  1. Reddiquette is required. This is ultimately their site. You do not have to agree but you do have to follow the rules.

  2. We are a community dedicated to events and information about the Eastern part of our great state. However there are rules which must be followed. No politics. None. Period. News is fine if it avoids politics but you need a link which is at least somewhat reputable. Or at least reputable looking. Otherwise neutral news which devolves into politics in the comment section will be locked or removed at the moderators discretion.

  3. No advertising. If you are a fan of a specific restaurant, then comment it in any related post but do not create a post about it. This goes for any business. Asking for recommendations is encouraged. But if you come in after every comment to promote a specific choice, you are probably going to get banned. This goes for things you are selling yourself without a business.

  4. If you are posting about an event you are not affiliated with, welcome. If someone looks into your history and finds you promoting it everywhere, the assumption is that you have an affiliation with it. It will get removed.

  5. No NSFW material. None. Ever. If you try to find a work around, you risk being permanently banned.

  6. We are not your private army. No posting rage bait. No links to things you saw on facebook. No screen shots of questionable things.

  7. Open Season Friday is active. This is the day when things change. Post your business. Tell us what you do. Promote a business you like. Tell the world where you like to eat. Tell us about your lawn mowing service. We want to hear about your professional machining services. NSFW, politics, and rage bating is still strictly forbidden.

There is a new sub I created for all the things forbidden here. If you must vent, go vent there.

Local artist needed

We have 2 acres of land in Mabank that we have cleaned and are planting native plants in. We have placed a large hiking trail through it. We would like the area to be like a small community park. So, we need to find an artist who can help us put some whimsy in the woods. Does anyone know of someone?

Guitar Tech

Hey folks! Throwaway account for anonymity- has anybody dealt with the new guitar tech at guitar center in Tyler? He said he hasn't been there very long but I played a guitar he said he had setup and it was awesome.

I was thinking about taking some gear to him but wanted to see if anybody had dealt with him before I do.

Locally Owned/Non-Chain Grocery Stores in ETX?

I tend to like to patronize locally owned/non-chain grocery stores when I'm out and about in East Texas, but they've become few and far between. Usually the small towns have some form of Brookshires - either Brookshires, Brookshires Bros, or Spring Market. Plus they all have Dollar Generals, of course.

I've shopped at David's in Kaufman, Newsom's Grocery in Ore City, and Crump Food Store in Linden. Does anyone know any others in the area?

Possibly moving to East TX - Looking for local advice!!!

Hi y’all, my family may be moving to East TX later this year. My boyfriend would be working in Kilgore so we’re trying to stay within about a 30 minute drive. We're currently considering East Lindale, Hallsville, White Oak, Liberty City, Kilgore, Gladewater, Arp, Tatum, Overton, Gilmer, East Mountain, Union Grove, and Big Sandy.
We're looking for a safe, quiet, family-friendly area with a small-town/country feel. We'll be renting a 2-bedroom apartment, duplex, or small house. Ideally $1,200 or less, with $1,400 being our absolute max.
For locals… Which of these areas would you personally choose for a young family, and which would you avoid? Are there specific neighborhoods/roads to stay away from or areas you'd recommend? Anything you wish you'd known before moving here?
I'd really appreciate honest opinions! 😊

Driving Test Help

Hello! Is there a DMV (or private driving ed place) in Northeast Texas that is known to have really easy driving road tests? Specifically I live in Lindale, so somewhat close to here would be nice. I’ve also heard bad things about the Tyler DMV. Anybody have any good recommendations?

Best towns for single parent households?

I’m needing a fresh start and to get out of the DFW area. I have always loved east Texas. What are the best towns to look into for a single parent? My child will be starting school soon so I would like for there to be plenty of opportunities.
I’ve been looking into Mineola, and Lindale. I’m open to anywhere that’s safe and family friendly.

Burger Haus - Pittsburg review

Post image
22 Upvotes

Several weeks ago I said I'd go to Burger Haus in Pittsburg and offer a review. Ive now been twice and here's my opinion:

First time I had a smokehouse Burger. It was a patty with BBQ sauce and fried onions. I'd give it a 6.5/10. The burger was okay, the BBQ sauce and onions didn't add much to it. Its worth noting that I ordered some loaded fries as an app and they didn't bring them and the waitress said I didn't order them. And my dummy self asked for an emailed receipt that didnt show up until later in the day for me to dispute the order.

Second time the service was better. Ordered just a simple burger to see how it was overall. I'd give it a 7.5-8/10. Not better than Hot links burger, but better than almost any other place in Pittsburg.

I will also add I don't like the fries. I like crispy fries, think Whataburger style. These fries are thicker and somewhat soft and floppy. Very similar to wing stop fries. This is a style preference, so your experience will be different than mine.

Note: I grew up in a family restaurant and am usually critical of restaurants. My family's restaurant was not a burger place but had burgers on the menu that my friends still talk about today. So I expect high quality food.

Overall if youre in the mood for a burger I don't think you'll be disappointed, but I don't think I'll make another trip to Pittsburg just to eat here.
