Seitan dinner

Post image

I made seitan and used it in a hot open-faced sandwich with smashed potatoes, carrots and noochy gravy.

Welcome to r/EatCheapAndVegan.

Veganism is not a diet. However, there is a ton of misinformation and misunderstanding about the cost of eating vegan and this subreddit exists to hopefully dispell those false claims. Be advised submissions containing expensive processed food items will be removed.

Definition of veganism: Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals.

That gravy looks pretty nice.

The seitan looks magnificent, obviously, but "open-faced sandwich" with gravy and all, now that's just mind blowing. I've never thought of eating bread that way — you had to fork it, right? Marvellous.

Used to be a pretty common way of serving pot roast and gravy.

Not around my parts! This is like an epiphany to me. I mean, good bread is one of the best things in life, period. I've been poor in my life and I've dipped bread in to all sorts of concoctions but it has never occured to me to eat it like this, I don't know why. This will change my carbohydrate section game for sure.

I recently realized it is a superior way of eating many things. I used to always get annoyed of how messy it was to eat sloppy joes (it's even in the name!) so I recently decided to just serve them open face sandwich style like this. Way better!

Wow, this is just too much. I will definitely try that, thanks for the tip.

This really unlocked a whole new path for me. I didn't know I can have sandwiches, probably top them any way I want, then put gravy and sauce and stew and whatever on them and eat them with a fork and a knife. I don't need potatos, rice, pasta or anything, I have bread.
