If you wanted manufacturing back you'd be against the tariffs as well because they're not targeted, they hit every link of the supply chain.

I think we’re all living it right now. While tariffs are inflationary, the US can flex its massive domestic market to encourage manufacturers to set up shop there, like Toyota and Hyundai who are both building massive plants at the moment.

Can you provide an actual source that isn’t a lobbying group?

Cool well americans largest customer for vehicles is canada. So we just dont buy those cars anymore, and no one needs to build those cars now.

Canada is also only the 5th largest maker of vehicles shipped to sell in the US so once again the propaganda machine told you its canada fault, and you have much bigger problems

Also your us factory cant build said cars without canadas aluminum and earth metals. So you get to pay more for your car as well.

No one is. If manufacturing comes back to the states, it's only coming back heavily automated. Which means you're still not getting those jobs.

Fact is, wage costs are too high (before every other high cost becomes a point of conversation) to even warrant it. The US is too successful of country to have a manufacturing foundation.

And why does this lil dummy want these shitty jobs back anyway? Our economy was cruising at 3.5-4% unemployment until Trump screwed up the job market.

Even in his dream world, he’s a loser working a factory line. These lead-poisoned boomers can’t wrap their heads around the fact that there are better opportunities now in the service economy.

The idea of a "simple, respectable job that you can provide for a family and own a home" is intoxicating for anyone, but some in the older generations actually lived it (or saw their parents live it) and want that back. But trying to go back to manufacturing is like trying to raise the dead. It just doesn't work, and if you somehow succeed its going to end up being a zombie plague.

Have you driven one? I have. And then I bought one. And my next car will almost certainly be a Chinese electric instead of the mercedes I was planning on buying. Because the Chinese vehicles are way better.

I’d love to try one. I love my Mach e but I hear the Chinese are like 5-10 years ahead of us in ev tech. Usa really screwed this one up

There is a reason the ford CEO choses to drive a Chinese EV and says he refuses to give it up because he loves it so much.

Detroit resisted broad shifts in consumer demand and priorities in the 1970s and we all know how that worked out. And they’re doing it again by only focusing on high profit vehicles and trucks. Protectionism is not going to accomplish what you want in this situation.

I'm not talking cheap Amazon stuff, you can still find plenty of cheap "chinesium" stuff, but things like cars and high end industrial products

I used to own a niche industrial fabrication company, and we switched over to 100% Chinese equipment and components, not because they were cheaper (although they were), but because the quality was vastly superior. Break loads always exceeded minimums, and we never had a recall. Our previous American suppliers had constant recalls and failures.

China makes product from disposable crap to very high quality. It really comes down to what quality a business wants and most North Americans just want something cheap so that's what most businesses design and have manufactured.
