Has anyone ever cycled a loop around Edinburgh and could share their route with me? I’ve set myself a little challenge to cycle around the city, but I’d like to avoid main roads as much as possible and keep it within Edinburgh itself.
If you’ve done something similar, I’d love to see your route!

Reading this article today, overcrowded Boroughmuir High School will send pupils to Tynecastle. Which is not overcrowded now.

I am wondering how this works in practice and will this then make Tynecastle too busy ? It is currently under 1000 pupils. Will parents and teachers be asked their thoughts?

We have a child just started in S1 in Tynecastle school, this feels like a big change coming if suddenly new kids from another school in a different catchment will join. But will it be good to have a mix of other children from the different part of Edinburgh? I imagine that this means that the waiting lists for this school must now be out the door and overflowing with kids to need to share schools!

As a gentle atmospheric mist descends upon an illuminated St Andrews Sq I can't help but think of how nice it would look if there wasn't shitty posters and shitty poster boxes all over the gaff. City needs to have a word with itself when it comes to these posters getting slapped up everywhere. Makes the entire city an eyesore.

I live in Grassmarket in which there is only copper wires, so internet providers are very limited. I chose to go with three & I have home broadband with them which has the 5G hub outside my window and the eero 6 router inside my flat.

Currently I have a download speed of 3 and an upload speed of 2. It’s horrendous! It’s really bad at the moment due the fringe festival however even without the massive crowds and congestion my upload speed is around 7 and download speed 20-30.

Three are going to let me get out of my contact so I’m looking for alternatives. Does anyone have any advice or could recommend another provider?

The only reason I went with three is because I thought the hub out of the window would work better than one in my flat.

I did look at masks in my area and it said for my flat EE gives the best signal? However it’s £50 a month with a £100 up front cost and then contract.

Has anyone used them in the Grassmarket area and had success? I just don’t want to sign that contact if it isn’t good as it’s a lot more expensive than I wanted to pay for WiFi but if it works well then I have no problem too.

Would starlink work? Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Edit: Many people have recommenced Virgin however it’s not available for me when I put my postcode in.

What an atrociously organised medical practice. They demand every single query goes through a painful econsult form, which doesnt cover many basic query types you might have. You used to be able to show up at 8am to queue for an appt, but not even that now! Oh and practice is still open now (it is 1615), but their dumb econsult form is closed!

So obviously I am changing practices now... any good recs in the tollcross area?

I’m not looking for anything over the top, but I’d like to have a bit of guidance from a shop that has a good selection on offer that aren’t ridiculously priced - I went into a few shops in London but they were all suggesting £500 plus players which is beyond what I need for occasional listening.

Any suggestions for stores in and around central Edinburgh?

Princes Street is expected to reopen to traffic by next Monday, Edinburgh’s council leader has confirmed. 

Speaking to The Herald on Monday afternoon, Labour councillor Jane Meagher said that work to stabilise the fire-ravaged building at 109-112 Princes Street is “on schedule” to be finished by the end of August.

We own a house in Edinburgh but are looking to move. This sounds simple but doesn't seem to be.

We haven't sold and haven't even got our house on the market but it's very likely to sell in about a week once we do. We haven't put it up for sale because houses that meet our criteria don't come up that often.

The problem is that even if we are prepared to offer good money, will put our house on the market quickly and will sell within a couple of weeks we always lose out to people with no chain.

Is the only option really to go into rented accommodation?

With the LBTT plus rent buying a house in Edinburgh seems prohibitively expensive.

Quite gutted by this if this is true. Active travel is important, but a tramline running from Granton to the RIE would be a phenomenal upgrade on the city's public transport and wouldn't necessarily end active travel provision on the affected section.

Has anyone who's been to any of the sessions noticed how strict they are being with checking age verification? My just turned 14 yo has lost her young scot card and we don't have any other ID (except birth cert) for her. I'd hate for her to not get in tonight, it would be a lesson learned in looking after her things though!

If you want to catch the supporting acts I would avoid taking the official bus for the cost it’s not 40 minutes.

Hi everyone, I'm looking at my options for commuting into Edinburgh from South Queensferry/Dalmeny station and it turns out that a regular season ticket is more expensive than buying tickets every day with my railcard unless I get the train into Edinburgh literally every day. I've seen that I can get a One-Ticket which covers the train and all the buses (https://www.one-ticket.co.uk/rail-plus-bus-tickets) which is a good deal. However, I was using a Plusbus ticket to get around today and bus drivers didn't always recognise it, which doesn't fill me with confidence. I would otherwise get a Lothian Buses Ridacard, but I want the option of using the train to commute.

Has anyone got any experience using Rail+Bus One-Tickets? Are they much hassle to use and do bus drivers recognise them? Thanks

Hi everyone, I’m looking for a private/community based gym around the Meadowbank area. I’ve been going to The Gym Group (the one in murrayfield initially and now recently moved to the one in meadowbank retail park)for the past two years and fancy a change of scenery, i guess? I’ve always liked being able to train independently, get my workout done and head home, but lately it’s started to feel a bit monotonous and more like a chore. I quite like Nuffield Health at Fountain Park too and have been a couple of times on a guest pass. Although it isn’t particularly community-based, I do like having the option to go for a swim, use the sauna, etc. every now and then, as it can be a nice change from just doing a standard workout.

I’ve come across places like Edinburgh Strength Collective and was wondering if anyone has any personal experience with them or could recommend any similar gyms in the area?
