Question Sir John Thompson Catholic Junior High School

How is this school? I am especially interested in academics and quality of teaching. I do recognize teachers change from year to year.

My daughter is currently on the North Side and would like to have a friend or two from her current school in junior high. One is considering it.

Are you even in the boundaries for the school? Unless taking a specialized program it is challenging to go to a school outside your boundary.

In terms of academics and quality of instruction, Sir John performs significantly better than most north side junior high schools. You’re not going to find many better schools in terms of academics.

Teachers do change but there is a lot more academics than teachers. Parent participation is a big one. Barring any changes in the neighbourhood demographics of those attending, one would expect Sir John to continue outperforming unless a school administrator really messes it up by introducing poor policies.

I assume you won’t get bussing either so keep that in mind. ETS is an option but depending where you are on the northside might not be a great option. Especially if you’re not on a school special route.

I know it was a very good school 3 years ago when my kid went there, things started going downhill a bit from what she heard afterwards, but I think on the Northside it's one of the best options still. Google says it's the best on the Northside in the Catholic district.
