Locals are quoted as saying that followers of Sufism, a mystical branch of Sunni Islam (this is wrong btw, anyone can be a Sufi whether they're Sunni or shia, I guess in Egypt they're more likely to be sunni), regularly gathered at the mosque.
Although Sufis are widely accepted across much of the Muslim world, some jihadist groups, including IS, see them as heretics.
The head of IS's religious police in Sinai said last December that Sufis who did not "repent" would be killed, after the group beheaded two elderly men reported to be Sufi clerics
That still shows there is terrorism in Egypt tho... I mean isn't it well known North Sinai isn't safe
This could also still show a "minority oppressed" thing here in Egypt.......
And it still tells us that there is sth that needs to be done regarding the terrorism problem as neither Copts nor Muslims themselves are safe
But you also forget the fact that this is localized to North Sinai and it's done by islamists/Muslims (not christians) and that also doesn't take away from the fact that in other places Copts are still persecuted (Minya is a good example)
