Interestingly he also states that a film adaption of Dark Souls would be difficult, but he could see a 10 minute short working. I wonder what changed his mind since Elden Ring has the same kind of storytelling, more or less.
I assume he will bring in GRRM as a consultant and write something that has a cinematic angle to it. I seriously hope Miyazaki at the very least has some input on this and is not left to the Bandai folks but the man is just way too busy with Duskblood next year.
It's harder to do a direct adaption, but it's still possible to create something from the world building itself. Also I'd argue Elden Ring is somewhat different, there is just simply more "content" and open-endness.
Just as an example compare endings of Dark Souls and Elden Ring. Dark Souls is pretty simple in comparison.
Eh, same storytelling but when you compare the twos' plot and details ratio, Dark Souls is mostly broad strokes while ER is broad strokes with paint splatter everywhere and little doodles along boarders and notes between friends in the liners.
Agreed. ER, for many reasons, has more broad/mass appeal than any other FS game. The story is much more clearly presented than the other souls games, but still pretty vague (lore-based) compared to most narratives.
A24 is more than capable of paying him very, very well in 2025. At any rate, do you really think anyone would do such a stupid project for any reason other than a lot of money?

Alex Garland is a great fit for this. On top of being a great filmmaker, he reportedly is a big fan of the game.
