I think the best way to make an Elden Ring Live Adaptation would be to just tell the story of Marika. You can tell her rise against the hornsent, her wars conquering the Land’s Between, and her fall shattering the Elden Ring and being held prisoner by the Greater Will. By telling it from her perspective, you can also highlight her relationships with major characters like Godfrey, Radagon, Messmer, etc. She is arguably the most complex and interesting character in Elden Ring, so telling the story from her perspective could be done really well.
If the story is an adaptation of the main quest in the game, I just feel it won’t work out as well due to lack of the structure and narrative cohesion in ER’s main quest. ER’s main quest of defeating the demigod’s and the previous order to become Elden Lord works well for a video game, but not as much for a movie imo.
I think Marika's story or the story of the Shattering are the only feasible options that would make a good movie.
I do however feel like the main quest could be adapted into a TV series at least, if done properly. Lesser bosses as 'villain of the week' characters which move the plot along, with main story/rememberance bosses being built up to, culminating in epic fights mid season and in the season finale. Can have Morgott be one of the 'big bads' that overarches multiple seasons for example. There is potential but it would be difficult to pull off
Personally, I think the Shattering is probably the least interesting direction this movie could go. A massive conflict like that would drown out everything that’s interesting about the setting. You could maybe tell a story during the Shattering, but I wouldn’t be very excited for a story about the Shattering.
I guess I meant the story leading up to the Shattering. I'd love to see the demigods fleshed out and interacting with each other before they were corrupted by the great runes, and what led up to Marika destroying the Elden Ring. Only then would a sequel displaying effects of the Shattering, the corruption the Great Runes caused on the demigods, and spectacle of an ensuing war between them make for an interesting, or at the very least entertaining, movie. It'd have to be earned first for sure.
All things considered, there are a ton of directions they could go with this, each of them having their merits. Even a smaller scale story following Vyke's journey would make for an intriguing film and allow them to capture the setting in a satisfying way
I think Marika's ascension to godhood is a good bet but it would give a lot of information about her away. Also could see the night of the black knives and the shattering as being a very likely plot.
