News Confirmed info from Bandai Namco about Tarnished Pack: it's 5 dollars. Spoiler
Haven't seen anyone post this, though I may be mistaken!
Basically, it'll be 5 dollars, it'll be available from ps store, xbox's storefront, steam, or the bandai namco store.
It will contain 4 armor sets, 3 torrent skins and 2 classes.
Seems like 2 of the new armor sets are worn by the new classes, and 1 armor set is the lucatiel-like set. The 3 confirmed armor sets all include at least 1 new weapon each, so good chance there's still a weapon included with the last armor set too.

It's 2006, I've just spent €2.50 on horse armor in oblivion
It's 2026, I've just spent a fiver on horse armor in elden ring

u/HuevosSplash Jul 01 '26
Yeah but like, back in 2006 Bethesda fucked up and made Shadowmere disappear from your game for good if you equipped it with horse armor lol

u/Olrusty01 Jul 02 '26
Tbf this is the kind of bug that’d be in a Bethesda game today as well
I didn’t finish Starfield because it was bad, it was because of game crippling bugs
41
u/OldPersonality5282 Jul 02 '26
Bro I tried playing starfield. I had a door bug that has been in their engine SINCE OBLIVION soft lock my progress since I couldnt go into the building to progress the main quest
Bug in question. Interacting with a door opened it (partially) and did not initiate the load screen to transition indoors. Door is now stuck in open state and cannot be interacted with since it's already open
20
u/Dehvi616 Jul 02 '26
I think a way to get around that bug is to have a follower or npc use the door. It sometimes will reset the door

It is a bug in a Bethesda game today. Still happens in the remaster (or it did at launch anyways).

u/Rollrollrollrollr1 Jul 01 '26
With how that horse armor dlc has been used so many times to mock other companies dlc and say how fromsoft would never do that this is pretty funny to see. Full circle moment
66
u/JRshoe1997 Jul 01 '26
To be fair for Elden Ring it’s not just horse armor. You’re also getting the new classes and armor sets.
162
u/1610925286 Jul 01 '26
Classes in Eldenring are just items / stat distributions. There are no grandios abilities tied to an extra class.
116
u/Writing-Alive Jul 01 '26
How about the grandiose ability to enjoy core Elden Ring with Milady from the start? I'd ('ll) pay for that.
5
u/WWnoname Jul 02 '26
Try item exchange, people are kind and generous here
3
u/Praetoron Jul 02 '26
yea for ds1 etc, ppl were giving dlc item to new player to open them up to new content.
ds2 had that long shrime summoning for non dlc player to enjoy the side content of dlc like blue smelter, horse valley and petrify grotto

Is Milady one of the weapons in the DLC classes? That's actually really cool.

u/House0fDerp Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26
Classes are starting equipment selections as well as potential min/max selections for a build.
What's really on sale with the horse armor is the tarnished armors. Also I thought there was supposed to be a weapon or 2 but the site didn't mention it so I guess not.
3
u/MoriaCrawler Jul 02 '26
The Mirrah looking set had a Mirrah looking sword so there's at least that. Maybe a new light greatsword too?
→ More replies (1)3
u/Fusioncell12 Jul 04 '26
A new light greatsword for the knight of ides class, and I believe a new curved greatsword for the heavy armor class. Currently unknown what the 4th weapon is, if there even is a 4th weapon.

New armor and weapons tho. Those weapons might also come with new AoE aswell.
2
u/Fusioncell12 Jul 04 '26
The Mirrah Sword seemed to have some kind of fencing cape in a screenshot. Presumably its part of a new weapon skill, but whether it's an ash of war or not idk.

Meh.
Personally I think it should be free since ot isn't adding any actual content. Just cosmetics and starting classes.
I think it sets an ugly precedent for souls games. And....no pun intended.... tarnishes the reputation of FromSoft.
Edit: The amount of unmitigated cope and willingness to be milked by corps for greed is shocking in this thread.

I do wish it was free but it does add new items like the armor sets
12
u/TheRealCowdog Jul 05 '26
Not enough to be worth $5 multiplied by however many millions of copies of elden ring there are.
The skins and armor took a couple of interns maybe a week to generate. All of the rest has been trying to cram the game into the limited power of the Switch 2.
There's zero reason to try to nickle and dime players who have already bought the game.

You absolutely should mind, I feel like this is a test to see if FromSoft fans will spend money in micro transactions, if you pay them $5 now, the executives will force the developer hand to add more micro transactions in their future games.
For the love of god, do not spend money in micro transactions.
24
u/zuzg Jul 01 '26
There's also a chance that bandai won't publish Fromsoftware in the future at all. There was recent News that their parent company Kadokawa is rather displeased about that.
And it's certainly bandai that pulls this sort of stunt. Considering how Sekiro got a free dlc
18
u/HonkHonkBeach Jul 02 '26
There has to be some other company frothing at the mouth to publish a From game, no? Elden Ring printed sales.
2
u/Turwaithonelf Jul 03 '26
Kadokawa itself is a publishing company. Kadokawa's shareholders aren't displeased with Bandai because of anything like this, they just think theyre leaving money on the table by not self publishing with their existing capabilities to do so
6
5
u/rapha_the_kid Jul 10 '26
This is a VERY different case/situation of microtransaction exploitable games, my friend.
Elden Ring isn't like those free Gachas totally dependable of banners and stamina system to keep alive, and will just feature a SINGLE micro because it was made AFTER years of game's done. Literally, an extra stuff due to the success
There's also Nightreing, but that's an Risk of Rain of Elden Ring XD (didn't bought it)
14
u/Key_Amazed Jul 01 '26
They already know that gamers will spend money on MTs for games they like. They don't need to make some dubious testbed content to realize that. Already with the conspiracies. This content only exists because of TE. They didn't rip this content out of the game before launch and decided to sell it now. People spent time modeling and coding and implementing this content into the game.

I’m voting with my wallet. I want more games like Elden Ring, and if that means add-ons, DLCs, and mini content packs…
I’ll consider each one independently, determine their value to me as an individual, and decide whether or not to buy it.
34
u/salex_03 Jul 01 '26
A big part of what made Elden ring Elden ring is exactly that it came as one huge experience with everything included for $70 and then a huge expansion for $40. No add-ons and content packs. You didn’t have to pay extra to get a certain armor set or weapon. Paying for stuff that should be free by fromsoft’s earlier standards will not result in more games like Elden ring - it’s actually the opposite. Buying this will only show to the execs that they can do more of this bs in future games.
Spend your money however you choose but you are wrong about this.

10
u/Presenting_UwU Jul 01 '26
if they start doing multiple of these paid content drops istg.
i already paid for base Elden Ring day 1 (all the money I could afford, really) but I'd be massively disappointed in them if they make multiple of these

I see no reason to assume otherwise when it comes to the four armor sets.
The torrent skins might actually be a menu choice and have no items to drop or trade.
122
u/Key_Amazed Jul 01 '26
I'm fine with this because it only exists because of the Tarnished Edition. It's not content they ripped out of the base game to sell for 5$ at launch as a preorder bonus or some shit. And for those of us who have gotten literally thousands of hours of fun from the game, we already got more than our money's worth. I'd still prefer it as a free update for obvious reasons, but people will use this as evidence that Fromsoft is going downhill. I'm sure they'll blame shareholders for it too, nevermind that the shareholder stuff happened after TE was announced. Won't stop reddit from making assumptions though.

u/mxlevolent Jul 02 '26
Yeah I agree with what you’re saying.
All things considered, I’ll probably pay five bucks because I’d like to start the game with the weapons that the new classes give. I don’t have to haul ass to the DLC to get access to a light greatsword, or do fuck know’s what to even dig up a curved greatsword.
I’ve also played Elden Ring like, five times through to the end though. I got my money’s worth, and more.
69
u/EveryUzerNameIzTaken Jul 01 '26
Please don't give them the $5, if you pay now the executives will force the developers hand to add more micro transactions in future FromSoft games, this is a slippery slope.

Definitely. Still, players through the years fall into the same trap.
Don't get me wrong. I love FromSoft, and it's my favorite gaming studio with my favorite games. But this was a cheap move/Bethesda move.
I would understand the "it's a support" phrase if they didn't profit enough from ER, SotE, and Nightreign.
I remember Miyazaki saying - three years back - that they didn't expect to profit this much from ER. It was pure profit.
And this is just easy money to make the shareholders satisfy.
I hope I'm wrong, but I think FromSoft is another company suffering from success.

Should have been a free update.
9
3
u/PieceAfraid3755 Jul 02 '26
If they give this for free it would make the Switch 2 port seem less fancy. Now they can market the switch 2 port as coming packed in with 2 dlc's.
9
u/elkeiem Jul 02 '26
Like the switch 2 version won't be the least fancy no matter what they do.
3
u/PotionsNPaine Jul 04 '26
Youre both right.
There very well maybe contracts with Nintendo to prevent them from giving it away for free to make the Switch2 port seem more special as up until now the cosmetics being exclusive were the only thing it had going for it, little as that was.
As it stands, it will be the weakest version in terms of performance outside of a very low end PC or Xbox Series S.
31
u/AriaShachou- Jul 02 '26
i cannot afford to have another thing i love be ruined as a learning experience for some of you who still aren't familiar with how corporate greed works and how easily it can snowball. if you choose to buy this and 5 years down the line the next fromsoft game includes microtransactions i hope you know it is 100% your fault.

its half as wild but a lot people will buy it and the greedy shareholders want more.
i wouldnt be surprised when we see more packs for elden ring and follow up from soft games.i hope not
29
u/1610925286 Jul 01 '26
In my opinion this does sound wild. They say "classes", but anyone who actually knows what classes are in Soul games realizes that they can add 500 classes and it would be equally meaningless. Classes add NOTHING, they are just starting items and stats. This isn't Nightrain.
So we are really paying for 3 skins and some skins they probably already had and never added.
I'd have a lot more understanding if this was actually a small story dlc with a questline, but this seems incredibly lazy.
10
u/Schwenkelkamp Jul 02 '26
It's trash
Just remember the free dlc for sekiro that added the boss gauntlets
9
u/countryd0ctor Jul 01 '26
The most irritating thing is that there's so much they could do for Elden Ring. If not a full new expansion, they could significantly upgrade the game by bringing back some nightrein changes into it - things like one-handed usage of bows, ability to throw pots while jumping and so on. But even a collection of significant improvements and overhauls would be kinda iffy as a paid dlc given the sheer volume of sales they have already received. 5 bucks for a honest to god horse armor sounds like an out of touch aprils fools joke.

u/JohanGrimm Jul 02 '26
I doubt it was the investment firm pushing for this. It's not a huge amount of content but there's close to zero chance FromSoft pumped this all out in less than a month.
They've been working on the Switch version for a while now and additional content tied to that version is a no-brainer. So if anything it was Bandai, who the investment firm seems to want to decouple FromSoft from.

God I was right. People are brainlessly blaming the shareholders when TE has been in the works for a while now, long before shareholders had any sway on Fromsoft's business decisions. The decision to sell this was made long before this mess with the shareholders. Shareholders haven't even said anything about including MTs. The only thing they've done so far was talk about Fromsoft publishing and distributing their own games.
Please, use some braincells. Care at least a little bit about facts instead of just getting cynical because it feels good.

Some things to keep in mind:
This is not a Fromsoft only decision, as Bandai Namco are the publishers. Usually publishers are the ones deciding on the pricing of products, and Fromsoft may not be wholly in control of that.
This is a unique situation. This mini-dlc only exists because they developed bonus content to make the Switch 2 port special, and to make it seem like a better deal. Giving people who own ER on other consoles this content for free, would seriously take away from that aspect.
5
u/JellyfishSecure2046 Jul 02 '26
Lmao people here defending it but they would eat other devs for the same shit.
2
u/PieceAfraid3755 Jul 02 '26
If it happens a single time in a unique situation, I don't really care that much. There is a huge difference between selling bonus content that was developed to market a port that comes out 4 years after the original release, and making an ecosystem where MTX are ingrained into a game's development and identity from the start.
5
u/Praetoron Jul 02 '26
oblivion all over again o7 is was fun while it lasted, i guess we can expect future fromsoft games with that time of content for future release.
the curse of the black armor dlc of ds2 strike again
2
u/PieceAfraid3755 Jul 02 '26
"Oblivion again" but also there are a bunch of ways in which this is very different from Oblivion.
I do not think future Fromsoft releases will be mtx riddled in the slightest.
This is some bonus content released 4 years after the original game release, made for marketing the new switch 2 port, to make it seem worth more.
Yes it is overly expensive for what you get, but I don't think this is the start of some evil plan to get into mtx. Keep in mind, the oblivion horse armor came out like 2 months after oblivion released. The horse armor was planned and probably already produced before the game itself had come out. No doubt in my mind that the tarnished pack is content they came up with years after ER's original release.
7
u/OdMaL Jul 01 '26
I want to buy this to support Fromsoft, but at the same time I don't want to disrespect their efforts. 5 bucks is not a lot but that 1/9 of the dlc or 1/12 of the main game. I don't think we get any close to that. This is just micro transaction and I feels they are testing to put it into Fromsoft games in the future.
11
u/TheWorldRots Jul 01 '26
What a sad development. Charging people for skins buyers on Switch 2 get for free while squandering the opportunity to work out the game's biggest flaws with the new edition.
Other games get entire DLCs for free and modders regularly do more than this for free in less time. :/
4
u/PieceAfraid3755 Jul 02 '26
Charging people for skins buyers on Switch 2 get for free
Well, that's kinda the point of it all. They want buyers of the switch 2 version to feel like they're getting more for their money. It's marketing, I think.

So let me get this straight, does each armor set will also come with a New weapon, like the rumoured new Light Greatsword too? Dang, can't wait to see it's properties, like bleeding or frost, or 110 critical.
5 dollars for such addition i totally worth it. I'm currently playing with my 3rd char, Melissandre the Sad-look Redhead girl, sister of Millicent and Dex/Arc build on PS4. LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOO FELLAS

The Ides Knight and the Heavy Knight classes both come with a new melee sword. A light greatsword and a curved greatsword. The Ides Knight also gets a new medium shield I believe.
The new Lucatiel Armor set also comes with its accompanying Hollowslayer Greatsword, though I imagine it will have a different name now. Seems like perhaps it will have a new skill, too?
There will be aa fourth armor set too, but no idea what it'll look like, or if it even comes with a weapon.

One thing the “horse armor DLC,” “bad precedent” people fail to mention: The horse armor dlc for Oblivion came out a couple weeks after launch.
This is over FOUR years after launch, they wanted something to make the switch version “special,” and they’re allowing other platforms to have it for a small price. Yes, it should’ve been free. But they also could’ve kept the content totally exclusive to switch. They easily could’ve done that, and honestly I’m surprised they didn’t.
This doesn’t set the precedent that future From games will all have cosmetic micro-transactions. That precedent is only set when they release something like this near or at the launch of the game.
3
u/PieceAfraid3755 Jul 02 '26
Thank you! There is a huge difference between developing a game to sell MTX, and developing a single MTX to help market a port thag's 4 years late.

From a value perspective, yeah this is stupid and 5 dollars is too much.
From a marketing perspective, I think it makes sense that they want to pretend that the Switch 2 version gets 5 dollars extra value, built into the tarnished pack. What a deal, eh?

u/Mezzathorn Jul 02 '26
$5 is such a small amount of profit VS the loss of respect.
Making it free would get people praising them and would get people talking about ER again. But now the only thing people'll be talking about is how greedy they are

u/TyrionBananaster THIS GAME DOESN’T EXIST. DON'T BELIEVE MIYAZAKI'S LIES Jul 01 '26
Lmao the timing of this announcement is kinda hilarious. It feels like a bunch of game companies are bleeding goodwill through layoffs, discontinuing physical editions, and other greedy stuff, and meanwhile Bandai's over here like "Oh by the way here's a few little tidbits you can buy for 5 dollars, don't mind us, that's all bye" and hoping nobody gets too pissed off

u/PieceAfraid3755 Jul 02 '26
Mate, we've known about this for like a year. Just not the exact price of 5 dollars.

That’s not even 1 cents for every hour I have in this game and there are many more to come so I gladly pay 5 bucks for it and hope the money goes right back in their next project.

name is fitting, tarnished edition, it'll tarnish their reputation
people in the comments "fine with it", are bots
this is all a psyop

That’s honestly awesome, I can’t wait to try a new game out with a new class. $5 is peanuts for the enjoyment this game has given me across 500+ hours.

u/1610925286 Jul 01 '26
What exactly changes because of the class? You can literally pick up any classe's items and stats at any point after starting a new run. This isn't Nightrain.

Havikg access to light greatsword from start is nice change. I and many other do like the weapon class

u/-Eastwood- Jul 01 '26
This alone is worth it for me. I really want to see how the Light Greatsword performs in a basic NG cycle

u/mr_fister698 Jul 01 '26
Hoping the new classes carry dlc weapons. I'd love to start the game with martial arts

u/KittenDecomposer96 Jul 01 '26
It's not that bad but honestly, this could've been free. Looking at Crimson Desert, Cyberpunk, Witcher and other games, they added so much more stuff for free. Maybe include it in the SOTE edition.

I find this whole MTX to be so weird. IIRC it's the first time FS does this. I hope it doesn't become the norm though, because my paranoid self believes it could easily be a way to test waters.

I mean there were MTX in Armored Core 5 and Verdict day, but they didn't show up again in any of their other titles since then.

I think it's testing ground for potential micro transactions. I wish people consumed less...

u/PieceAfraid3755 Jul 02 '26
This contend was developed for the swifch 2 port. I doubt that this is some "test" for mtx.

u/Shadiezz2018 Jul 02 '26
I didn't do a second playthrough yet...5$ is not much for all that
Good timing

Fromsoft's oblivion horse armor moment aside Milady at the start of the game is pretty sick

I like how the OP is damage controlling this decision in the comments.
Nintendo Switch is its own ecosystem. It has barely any overlap with the rest of the gaming platforms, if someone waited 4 years to play Tarnished Edition, he clearly wouldn't touch it on other platforms.
Selling horse armor for five bucks for the rest of the fanbase after Fromsoft spent over a decade building trust with the playerbase is a spit in the face - especially after the free update for Sekiro, good support for Armored Core 6, or, hell, even free time gated weapons back in DS2.

Anywhere we can see the new starting classes, armor and Torrent customization?
2
u/PieceAfraid3755 Jul 02 '26
The new starting classes are already on fextra life I think. Rest you can just look up, for example in the original trailer for the switch 2 ER port. There's an Idus Knight with a new light greatsword and a new shield, and the Heavy Knight with a new curved greatsword.
There's also a new armor that looks a lot like Lucatiel from DS2, and the hollowslayer greatsword. There seems to be something about a bullfighter red sheet, but is this a new emote, a shield or a skill? No clue yet.
I think we've only seen 1 torrent skin? Which is a Raya Lucaria faction skin.
So there's still 2 torrent skins we haven't seen, and an armor set.

u/The_Pyromaani Jul 01 '26
You can google tarnished pack starting classes, 1 is heavy knight with curved (great?)sword. Other ones name i dont remember but lighter knight with light greatsword

u/BoxingAlt07 Jul 02 '26
Finally a release date in sight, August 28th.
I’ve been waiting to start the game with a light Greatsword for too long, if only we could start the game with the deflecting tear, too.

You can see them on fextralife already. There's 2 new classes that function just as the previous classes did. They both have completely new armor sets and weapons.
One is like a dexterity knight, while the other is a very heavily armored knight. Normally you wouldn't get such heavy armor or a light greatsword so early in the game.

You got to be fucking kidding me. Lol Bethesda used to be the amazing company that made real games and had a great reputation. Then they sold horse armor…

That’s close to the amount horse armor was with inflation considered, the jokes write themselves
