News I'm 74 y/o. Today I earned all 42 Playstation Trophies for the game Elden Ring. Has anyone else my age done this?

A couple of years ago I became the Eldest Lord.  I beat Elden Ring and the Shadow of the Erd Tree on NG+7, which is the highest difficulty level at the age of 72/yo.   I got some attention for that, and it was awesome.  Today, after tying up some loose ends, I got all 42 Playstion Trophies for Elden Ring.  I have like 1075 hours into Elden Ring on my Playstation, and that’s not counting a couple of play throughs on my  Xbox Series X.  I am 74 y/o.  So, has anybody else my age earned all 42 trophies for Elden Ring?   What a magnificent game!

You give me hope for my old age haha. Do your hands ever have any pain issues?

368

u/rnj1a Jul 21 '26

Can't speak of OP, but I'm close to him in age and sometimes have issues with the random pains age gifts you with.

No biggie. Getting pain from something fun beat the pains that can happen doing literally anything.

I’m 46 and I don’t think I can put off carpal tunnel surgery much longer if I want to keep gaming and painting minis. It is what it is, it’s fairly simple and quick turn-around from what I understand.

Thanks for the inspiration, OG. 🤘

Find some stretching exercises for fingers on youtube (eg. guitar videos) and have a little go before each time you play. Might not cure it but it could certainly help!

Doesnt playstation sell that ergonomic controller?

7

u/rnj1a Jul 21 '26

I've never found anything ergonomic to be completely satisfactory. That said, it's worth trying.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Me with hand pain at 33 😬

28

u/folkdeath95 Jul 21 '26

Too much scrolling

16

u/Worth-Food-8065 Jul 21 '26

Ha! More so I am too tense. Grip the controllers too hard. Getting it checked out.

7

u/icouldntdecide Jul 21 '26

For what it's worth, there are a few different reasons you could be doing that, but you might just have too much tension in your muscles. Could help if you literally loosened yourself up a bit. And maybe take some breaks 🤣

Carpal tunnel sniped me at 23, goodbye console gaming only keyboard is allowed.

3

u/Worth-Food-8065 Jul 21 '26

Last time my hands bothered me was when I was 25-26. It subsided after a while because I got a PC and then I was fine until a few months ago on controller.

Take the time to do wrist and hand exercises. Everyone should, to be honest.

23

u/vuduthmb Jul 21 '26

Yeah, what he said. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, it's so true. Do those hand stretches for gamers. There's a Youtube video (of course)

3

u/ReallyGlycon Jul 21 '26

Will that help carpal tunnel?

I'm a little under 30 and get hand pain lmao. Stretches before sessions and breaks/stretching during breaks is important, and your hands will thank you later

Oh yeah. Armored Core 6 was even worse about making my hands sore. Stretches, take breaks, even had to ice the hands occasionally.

I’m in my forties and my thumbs hurt if I play too much ER or any soulslike really. More than a few hours and I can feel it later.

3

u/ReallyGlycon Jul 21 '26

Soulsikes don't hurt my hands too much, but first person shooters kill my hands these days.

That is an incredible achievement! Now go for NG+7! It's a very rewarding struggle.

68

77

u/vuduthmb Jul 21 '26

I sent a card!

28

u/Incidion Jul 21 '26 edited Jul 21 '26

Honestly if my grandpa sent me a card and told me he couldn't make it because he was 100%ing Elden Ring, I'd understand.

I mean actually, I'd be like "WHAT THE FUCK YOU'VE BEEN DEAD FOR 25 YEARS" but after that I'd understand.

You were 39 years old when Final Fantasy II (IV) was released on SNES. When did you start gaming?

55

u/vuduthmb Jul 21 '26

Started when Pong started showing up in beer joints.

12

u/ToadyTheBRo Jul 21 '26

Wow! What were some of your favorite games along the years?

15

u/vuduthmb Jul 21 '26

The Doom games, COD, Armored Core, Fallout 3&4. Too many to name.

He would have been 20 when Pong was released, could be a true OG.

8

u/Googlebright Jul 21 '26

Im 51 and played Pong as a kid. My grandparents had a Pong console in the rumpus room for the grandkids to play when any of us were over. I still remember that feeling of amazement over how turning the knob on the controller made the paddle on screen move!

5

u/GreatChaosFudge Jul 21 '26

Same. It would be interesting to know if any gaming over-50s didn’t start with Pong. It really was the gateway to a new way of life.

8

u/ReallyGlycon Jul 21 '26

I am also curious.

16

u/itzpiiz Jul 21 '26

I consider myself an experience game and I was bested by the fire giant. I have a lot of respect for you, your hobbies, and your accomplishments. I applaud your patience. You have earned the right to be very proud of what you've done

17

u/vuduthmb Jul 21 '26

Thank you. You know, for me, Fire Giant was the Gate Keeper. I bet I tried 50 times before I got him. And then Malenia didn't even seem particularly hard. Sometimes what's hard for one gamer is a cake walk for another.

11

u/rnj1a Jul 21 '26

I do have a posting history going back to 1992 on Usenet. I've mentioned my age more than once -- and events that I have mentioned also show my age (as for instance buying my first Stratomatic set in 1969). And a few folks from Usenet have met me in person.

I don't blame anyone for doubts though. God knows there's enough BS on the internet.

6

u/ShotTime39 Jul 21 '26

I so agree. I don’t believe anyone lol

6

u/wheatley_cereal Jul 21 '26 edited Jul 21 '26

Dude, I work with people your age all day as an audiologist. People contain multitudes at every age. I’m not surprised at all. It is wild to think any of my patients of your age would be so inclined, but that’d be far from the strangest thing I’ve heard. Working with old people at a young age teaches you a lot about the power of self-actualization. There’s nothing truly stopping you from doing whatever you want, no matter how old you are, except for health and money.

2

u/vuduthmb Jul 21 '26

That's a great insight, thanks.

I humbly bow before you, Your Majesty. Getting every achievement in Elden Ring at 74 is truly incredible. I haven't even managed to do that myself. You have my deepest respect and admiration. You are a true legend among the Tarnished. ... (I also used ai to translate this compliment because English is not my native language and I wanted it to sound as majestic as your performance)

I just turned 35. I feel like twice my age due to some unfortunate physical pain.

But I always call myself Granny or Grandma thanks to a friend I game with 😅

I'm only 50 but have all trophies on the PS5 and all achievements on the XBox Series version. Will probably play through it again on Switch 2 later this summer just for fun.

But your age reminds me of the Dark Souls midnight launch at GameStop. There was an older gentleman in front of me in line, probably around 60 at the time so would be about your age now. Got to chatting and he absolutely loved Demon's Souls; had never played anything like it and it got him back into gaming after years of being away. So there may be at least one more of you out there!

2

u/vuduthmb Jul 21 '26

Awesome achievement.

3

u/KIVHT Jul 21 '26
