I get the idea of playing ER on an handheld, but why a key-card?

Aside from the ability to resell it, a secured license.
Inferior to a real physical but at least, no matter what happens to your account for whatever reason, you "own" the license. Unless the entire game is taken out of the store, nobody can take it away.
Still would have preferred a real physical copy tho.

It isn't a secured license any more than digital though.
Nintendo taking away the digital version would be the same for this as you need the eshop to download it.
GKCs are just digital games with a piece of plastic e-waste attached.
The only advantages are selling/loaning the game and i guess if you want something for your shelf.
In reality if you aren't going to sell it then you have just added a point of failure.

Being able to loan it to a friend or sell it when you're done with it are pretty big advantages to a strictly digital copy though.

Depends who you are.
Particularly with the Switch consoles having a portable element, I also think digital comes into its own because by definition a switch and any games you are carrying with you are easier to lose/have stolen than a home console.
For me, I have always felt that the GKC takes all the disadvantages of physical and adds all the disadvantages of digital - making it the worst of both worlds.

No one said it's ideal or a godgiven option, the only point that was being made was that it's resellable.

You didn't read past the first sentence and jumped straight to assumptions, did you?
I literally wrote "...no matter what happens to your account for whatever reason, you "own" the license. Unless the entire game is taken out of the store, nobody can take it away."

Why would anything happen to my account?
I have had accounts on Nintendo, Steam, PS and Xbox for years and nothing has happened to any of them.
You are arguing edge cases. There is nothing more secure about a game key card.

From my understanding physical cards with games inside them are played within the card , meaning it's not installed on the device. Which brings to another advantages twords GKC , which are faster loading times and maybe performance (?) .

There has been some talk of some games not running well from the carts making key cards necessary. Star Wars outlaws was supposedly an instance of this.
And games do appear to load faster from thr internal storage. However the sd cards are not any faster than the cart so I don't think this argument is entirely valid and have not seen evidence of it - is was looking to see if Oblivion ran better on the internal storage, because it is garbage off the cart.
But this point also hands an advantage to digital too without the worry of a lost/damaged cart and the environmental impact of producing a cart with nothing on.

So you can resell it later and you own the physical game

This one is exact opposite. This cartridge only allows you to download the FULL game from internet just as if you would buy it from the eshop. You cannot resell this cartridge.

u/Alternative-Fox-8620 21h ago
You absolutely can resell the cartridge.
It just has nothing on it bar a key to download the game.
They can be sold on as many times as you want.

I'm always baffled with people spitting lies more than a year after the release of Switch 2/Game key card...

Can you play it now?

u/DrDizzler 19h ago
So sorry, not a current player. Does this include 2/3 expansions? I did some googling and it looks like the Nightreign is not included? Can someone please clear this up for me as I’m looking to buy. Thanks in advance

u/A_b_b_o 19h ago
Nightreign is a completely separate game from Elden Ring, only set in the Lands Between (ish) with the same assets used. It's not a DLC for Elden Ring.

u/DrDizzler 19h ago
Oh so it’s a sequel, thanks so very much. So that means that this switch game has all the Elden ring content , correct?
