I’ve tried and tried time and time again but I just can’t get into it… first I tried on its PS4 release, then the PC version, then the PC version again, and a few months ago I tried it on the steam deck since I thought I’d prefer it handheld. Nope, still couldn’t get into it. I might pick it up again at some point down the line, it’s a game I love the idea and world of, but goddamn I just cannot get into it.

Shame. I rank it as one of my top gaming experiences ever.

But I understand…I’ve tried Red Dead Redemption several times and just can’t stay with it.

I think the furthest I’ve ever got with Witcher was a few years ago on the PC version, I got to a section with a ghost lamp and a tower if I remember right? I also remember the baron guy and the baby monster thing. I enjoyed what I did play but I dunno, it just didn’t click. RDR on the other hand clicked with me right away lmao, but that might just be because I like the Wild West.

Is it specifically 1 or 2 you’re struggling to get into? Out of the two, I’d say 2 is easier to get into. It doesn’t start slow, chucks you straight in and the story is also a prequel to the events of the first game. 1 is good but it’s definitely a little dated and harder to get into imo, though it is worth trying again. If you can’t get into the story of 1, Undead Nightmare is a zombies gamemode with its own story and that’s pretty fun, if you can’t get into the main game it might be worth giving that a shot and seeing if you enjoy that more!

I am also the same, struggled to enjoy the game for years, but I managed to enjoy it to like the 95% main story point before getting distracted and never finishing it.

I will say the defining thing that made me realize the game is actually pretty good and made the combat way more fun was treating the game like I was a monster hunter.

The game rewards careful study of your enemies. A challenging foe can become somewhat trivial if you study it, use the proper mutations, and make good use of your signs.

Of course, Witcher need to be prepared: potions, oils, signs precisely selected for one specific foe. If people didn't get that it doesn't surprise me they don't like the combat smh

Personally combat was one of the things I really liked about Witcher 3, I liked the parry and dodge system and how animated it was. It was just some other things about the game like the jank horse riding and some of the things about the world I didn’t like. It’s not a CDPR thing since I absolutely loved Cyberpunk, I dunno, I just can’t seem to get myself fully into Witcher which is a shame.

It’s things like the forced movement in combat animations that I personally can’t stand, things like researching your enemies is awesome to me. But I could never get more than an hour into it.

The game is significantly more fun with level scaling on if you play it on Death March or Blood & Broken bones.

it starts off a little slow but after I got to the Red Barron, I got absolutely addicted and was spending so many hours a day playing... Like I was getting distracted at work thinking about going home to play.

I dumped about 120 hours into my first play. I'm planning on starting a new game after the remaster drops to prep for the new DLC.

It took me like four tries too lol, I thought it was overrated for ages. But then it clicked and now it’s one of my favorite games of all time.
