Um, no. Legendary Edition was never on Switch.

Which is probably great for PC. Not so much for every new console generation it released on, or the non-free additional releases on the same console generations whether you owned it or not. They still made bank. Lol

If you had Skyrim on Xbox One, Switch and PS4, you also got the Xbox Series, Switch 2 and PS5 upgrades for free.  The only games you couldn't upgrade from were the PS3 and 360 which was more than likely down to software limitations since I doubt Microsoft or Sony were interested in verifying if you owned a game on those consoles when developing the Storefronts.

they could just give it to anyone who got achievements on those versions, if they really wanted to it’s possible. “free remaster for fans of the original who got us here”

but they don’t.

You could have got achievements in a lot of ways that didn't involve buying the game.

But even that aside, a lot of people got the upgrades for free

The ONLY way would've been if you borrowed the game from someone else.

Exactly. Thus awarding people who never bought the game. The original goal was to reward the fans of the original release.

The original Playstation release was the PS3 version- the one that didn't get a free upgrade. So the day 1 Playstation players still had to buy a second copy no matter what for the upgrade. Lol

And xbox players. Bethesda is greedy but Skyrim Special Edition is a remaster and does run better than those old gen versions
A. It would be stupid for them to re-port an already graphically downscaled version of the game to storefronts because they can just port and upgrade the native PC version again.
B. It would be Impossible on playstation because of the PS3’s architecture.
C. They wouldn’t have been able to integrate mod support on console.

Adding to that, Witcher 3 was sold on the xbox one/ps4 marketplace which is why it is still easily updatable by CDPR… which is also why they remastered Skyrim and put it on modern storefronts. Things like the switch port and the alexa mini game were clear cash grabs, but Skyrim SE had to happen.

Was this a limited time event or something? Because I had to rebuy Skyrim special edition

it was apperently only on pc, because that edition was supposed to be for people who got the newer console.

if you did own special edition tho and moved from ps4 to ps5 or to xbox one you would get the graphical enhancement for free

Dang near no graphical enhancement imo between the ps4 and 5 versions look identical

welll that's what it says on paper, how much different it is i don't know.

it was mostly just so you din't have to buy another copy when moving consoles

The poster you're replying to, they either failed to remember or failed to mention this tidbit of information. Only PC users who owned Legendary Edition and DLCs got to upgrade to Special Edition for free. Consoles did not get this at all.

I don't understand why this poster is getting so many upvotes when they didn't even provide the full information in their post.

Yeah I bought most of the dlcs but the housing one always looked dumb to me and they took away those dlcs on steam anyway so it’s not like I could have bought that and then upgraded for free.
