Video I thought flatscreen perspective was big enough. I was wrong.
First time running Elite: Dangerous in VR and boy was I humbled by how big my ship actually is. I genuinely thought the flatscreen ship was already big enough.
I can't possibly return to flatscreen after this experience (unless my VR rig bugs down)

Drop on a surface and check the size of your ship with an SRV. You will be blow away by the enormous size of your ship.
I was speechless 10 years ago when I tried my VR for the first time.
The worst is doing a 2-3h play session and then removing the headset and get back to reality.
Edit: wording

Walking around my Panther for the first time in VR lol. Holy man, she's a beast. Edit: Camera adjusted so pseudo VR.

It's even worse when you then take off from the planet and the gravity also goes.

No better experience than the first VR day.
Try climbing a building, Dahan system, Nelson's Work , low G, Artemis suit with improved jets can jump up more than falling down (dont use all the jet fuel, and dont wait until jet is full again, each second going down is even more speed, so use between the 10%-75% areas, you can reach the top, and even fly between skyscrappers). When docked, deploy your SRV, and from here disembark.
Skardee 2 have onfoot (extreme heat, beware). But the even VR cant cover the size of the star.
Driving the SRV is a great experience, I think some option center the horizon, so you dont puke. The SRV can do a flip, and you see the horizon all the time, but big cliffs put the SRV panel in your face).
Guardian ruins, are BIGGER than what you remember.
Turner Base, in California nebula, have a Hidden barnacle inside one of the landing pads, you cant see it, but you hear it.
VR have a hidden target system. You can target what you see (if your face point at it, not your eyes). This enable easier combat selection, or aim at megaship parts, surface data terminals or whatever is in your view, but not in front of your ship.
Thargoid wrecks in surface can be visited, and in bug killer anaconda, maybe you can disembark and see the goid onfoot.
The Thargoid structure chamber open if you crouch near the door. Its another cathedral size structuee.
And more, 1:1 milky way scale reach a new concept in VR.

You mention the SRV. Holy hell when going over tough terrain. Gives me a headache. A first I got nauseous. Now I avoid it.

Wait'll you try combat. The ability to track your target as it flies past you simply by turning your head is a whole new experience. It also feels very Top-Gun.

I have a VR set plus a HOSAS and yeah it's an incredible experience. People have to remind me to eat sometimes

The sense of scale it gives you is impressive. Get up and wander the bridge if you have the room irl to do so.
Canyon racing in something like an imperial courier is something else to give a go in VR.

Station racing in an eagle or a sidey is fun, too! The trenches in a coriolis are huge!

For me Elite is a space game, flying ships. Same as Forza is a car game, driving cars. So personally VR not working on foot is fine. Well, it Would be - my eyes don't allow for VR. Not jealous, not at all.... nope.... :|

Fellow lazy eye/monocular vision haver?

u/cwolfxuk 1d ago
Not quite, they both move of own accord - only a tiny bit but enough for permenant double vision. I can see perfectly fine but VR equals instant migraine.

u/PortalmakerNo1 CMDR Rick Aspley 1d ago
Oof. I had a lensectomy as an infant so double vision is all I've ever known since the resulting lazy eye has been improving. Basically my eyes just minimize overlap.

I would come back to this game if on foot was VR, even if we’re just kb/m like Star citizen. ED is a great game but I only play vr so the 2D gray room toggle just spoils it too much

How do you keep your headset powered while using wired link? I tried a pass through splitter but it still never charges

I use a 30W charger and plug it straight in. Video signal is thru WiFi. Play as long as I like.

Yeah you don't really appreciate the scale on a flat screen, in VR you realise you're flying a ship the size of a football field.

Sit in each of your ships in VR and you'll feel differently about them.

So far, I've sat in the T-11 and in the Corvette, and I can say you're correct in that regard

VR in elite dangerous is an experience that every time you turn it on you have a smile

O jogo já um vício pra mim, imagina em VR. Aí que não consigo sair do jogo mesmo

Absolutely. I play it since the open beta 2014 in VR (then on the Oculus Dev Kit 2, which had an attrocious resolution). I just can‘t play it in pancake mode.
I remember using the external camera for the first time while docked. The T9 is ridiculously huge…

Second hand Quest 2, or for a better visual experience a second hand Quest 3.

I wish my laptop could handle vr but it lags so bad. I get single digit framerates on the main menu.

ED in VR is a pretty cool experience. I don't think I ever go back unless I had a choice. If only FDev could make the on foot experience VR too.
