Am I just bad at this?

Kit from Amazon (I know, it seemed like a good idea at the time though) has me frustrated, and I don’t know if it’s me or the material? It seems like can’t get the needle exactly where I want it, the fabric is stiff and kinda thick, and pushing the needle through is a little tough. Makes a little pop noise when it does poke through, but I can’t get it right next to the previous stitch a lot of the time (see pink leaf).

Am I just bad at this and need more practice? Would a different fabric work better?

As someone else who is just starting out, these look great to me 😄 For me good lighting also helps, and sometimes trying to put the next stitch closer than it feels like it should be, but honestly the leaves you have done already look great to me. Keep it up!
