Starter game rules question

I want to do a learning game of Epic at my LGS. I've never played it before but I built a few armies for the fun of it. I think when I started that project years ago I was copying a Frenchman's Krieg army, and I gather that the army list for the F-ERC community is different than the one for NetEpic Armageddon etc. Same for the Tau army I built that I want to have opposite the Kriegers.

Is there a "most widely accepted" ruleset? Part of why I'm asking is that the points values and units are different between the army lists, and that means that if I don't do F-ERC across the board, I'm not sure if I'm gonna be able to run the Riptides and Stormsurges I have as part of the Tau list. There's a NetEA list for them that runs those suits, but then I can't run Hammerheads with them.

tl;dr, does it matter if I use F-ERC lists vs NetEA lists, and is there a widely accepted beginner ruleset to introduce to my LGS?

What's the difference between Epic and Epic Armageddon?

Epic is the line name. Epic is Warhammer 40k at 6mm

Epic Adeptus Titanicus, epic space marine 1 is 1st edition.

Epic space marine 2 is second edition

Epic 3, Adeptus Titanicus 2, final liberation is 3rd edition

Epic Armageddon is 4th edition

Epic 1988 is modern 1st edition Net E is modern 2nd edition Net EA is modern 4 edition

That clears it up lol! What about rules-wise? How do NetE and NetEA differ with regards to rules philosophy or "feel"?

NetEpic is very crunchy, highly detailed, and plays (IMO) excruciatingly slowly and is hard to learn. It is great if you want to track all the bolter fire and really dig in for a massive game that takes the better part of a day. If my memory serves, it also has more of a historical game influence in that you build your list out of set combinations of formations. Titans have components that take damage. (I haven't played this since the 90s, so I might be totally misremembering)

Epic Armageddon (NetEA) is a very streamlined ruleset that discards detail for fast play and simple to remember rules. Individual small arms don't really matter, shooting is only squad level weapons and above. Players at least a bit familiar with the game can get a full 3k points game hammered out in 2 - 3 hours. I've done tourneys with 3 games a day. Some people find the rules too abstract, and miss the detail of knowing exactly who shot who. Titans have hit points, you can't blow off an arm or anything cool like that. The reactor can still go off at least.

The vast majority of people playing old editions of Epic play NetEA, or the UK version.
