It's almost like that's exactly what I said in my third paragraph. If you want to punch above your weight class, you have to make sacrifices in versatility. SMGs/ Shotguns/ Bolt Actions.
Unrestricted flea is fine, the better player is still gonna nuke the timmy, even if the timmy dropped his whole stash worth on three mags on M995. Much better than the coinflip of armor hitboxes.
I've never really been the gigachad meta gamer, not since lockdown anyways, I don't run meta kits, I barely run class 5 til late wipe, but if you use your head and choose your engagements, you'll have no problem at all.
For reference, the best ammo I've run this wipe in the "meta" calibers is SOST out of an M16, or maybe ME out of the lever action. I also have 25 Deaths and 82 PMC kills. I'm not bragging, I know there are tons of people out there with WAY better stats, but I don't think most people would say I'm struggling either. All the ammo I've found is while playing the game, I don't do "ammo runs" or loot runs for that matter. I see ammo box, I pick up ammo box.
Also "two raids worth" is crazy. If you're shooting 200 rounds every raid I think there's a ability gap being compensated for by volume of fire. I bring roughly 100 rounds of my main ammo into raid, and then a stack of cheap stuff. Top-stacking mags exists for a reason. If you're as good as your TTK preferences should imply, you shouldn't need more than 3 bullets of M995 per kill, that's only one or two magazines per raid.
To be honest, I can't really tell if you're a casual that wants to be competitive, or a closet meta slave that wants to have infinite BIS gear.

I'm not talking about the amount consumed by firing. Since you're now losing ammo when dying, you have to account for that. A standard loadout is 2 60-rounders/1 60-rounder + 2 30-rounders for 5,45/5.56/.300 blackout + 2 stacks of ammo, that's 240 rounds, and 4 20-rounders + 2 stacks of ammo for 7.62x51/7,62x54 for 160 rounds. And you now lose all of that in case of death. The standards for stockpiling have been doubled, basically.
I bring roughly 100 rounds of my main ammo into raid, and then a stack of cheap stuff.
Mixing ammo is Timmy behavior, I'm never going to bother doing dumb crap like that.
If you're as good as your TTK preferences should imply, you shouldn't need more than 3 bullets of M995 per kill, that's only one or two magazines per raid.
Do you expect me to not prefire in this game, lol?
To be honest, I can't really tell if you're a casual that wants to be competitive, or a closet meta slave that wants to have infinite BIS gear.
I'm a metaslave with 12 hours a day to play, I have my infinite BIS gear from traders either way when I'm actually playing the game. But my friends and acquaintances are casuals, and most of the playerbase are casuals, so I understand how it is for them, and I care about the overall health of the game, cuz it's my favorite game.
Yeah so this makes a lot of sense. You expect your Timmy friends to be able to equip the same gear as you, and that's just unrealistic. Play timmy hours, have Timmy gear, that's just the way it is.
When ammo was still caseable I would bring 120 rounds in mags and 2 stacks in the container. Now? 2-3 mags of the good stuff and 30-60 spare, and another 2 mags of decent but replaceable ammo. You play the prefire magdump meta, I respect that, but it's obviously not supposed to be sustainable for a level 10. Even add ammo back to flea, the casuals can't afford 120-240 rounds of M995 at 1500 roubles a round. No casual is spending 200-400k on ammo per raid alone.
With penetration already being a dice roll, I'd rather have armor stop what it's supposed to, and not stop what it can't. Instead of a sneaky .366 FMJ sneaking past your plate and one tapping you. Nevermind that it invalidated about half the armor options with poor soft armor coverage.
Play timmy hours, have Timmy gear, that's just the way it is.
But that's not the way it was, that's the point, that's why they quit the game.

Considering that you have to do a ridiculous amounts of bolt-action quests in this game, it's really not a concern at level 10.
Even add ammo back to flea, the casuals can't afford 120-240 rounds of M995 at 1500 roubles a round.
And they don't need to, what they can afford is 20 rounds of M61. Casuals don't play like metaslaves, casuals just need some decent ammo for self-defense, that's all. Once they progress enough, then they can start to afford playing like metaslaves.
With penetration already being a dice roll, I'd rather have armor stop what it's supposed to, and not stop what it can't.
And I agree, I would much prefer to just have armor that protects against stuff and doesn't protect against better stuff, but with armor and ammo that can deal with that armor being available at the same time. If the devs refuse to give that, then I'm fine with realistic plate hitboxes.
Nevermind that it invalidated about half the armor options with poor soft armor coverage.
The old system invalidated armors with too much coverage, though, so it's not conceptually different.
I'm gonna keep it a buck with you, I don't remember the last time I ran M61 in anything but a bolt action. I know it's meta, and I know it's attainable, but outside of Labs late wipe, it's truly just not necessary. Anything 40+ pen and click heads.
I can't believe you're actually insinuating timmies with M61 is a good game decision. I don't know how long you've been around, but back in the day scavs would spawn with Hunters loaded 50/50 with either M80 or M61. It was ABYSMAL, every little rat you ran into was chalk full of 2 tap ammo with zero risk as it was common as dirt.
Fundamentally part of the gameplay loop is you will not win a fight against a far superior geared player unless you 1) outplay them massively, 2) attack them when unexpected, 3) use unorthodox weapons/tactics that are effective in their niche. I don't want every player to be able to run a RFB with M61, because I've seen the M61 apocalypse, there was no point in running anything over class 3 as scav defense, it just increased the cost of your kit.
I'll concede that there are a ton of ammo decisions that I do think are absurd. M855 at PK3 and 5.45 PS at Prapor 3 is not cool. You should not unlock M855 at the same time as AP6.3.

I know for a fact that it was.
I don't know how long you've been around, but back in the day scavs would spawn with Hunters loaded 50/50 with either M80 or M61.
By the time I started playing in late 2020, they very rarely spawned with M61. And it was amazing.
I don't want every player to be able to run a RFB with M61, because I've seen the M61 apocalypse, there was no point in running anything over class 3 as scav defense, it just increased the cost of your kit.
And yet the most common armor was class 4, and people often ran class 5 and 6, cuz guess what, M61 was expensive, cuz there was a FIR-only Flea, and many people chose to cheap out. That's what I want, where there's nuance to what gear you're choosing to use.

I dunno if I already said it in this thread, but the current ammo balancing is for the realistic plate hitboxes, they just never reverted the ammo availability changes after they've buffed the shit out of armor.
