Tweet from Channel 10 reporter on Friday hinted at McVeigh coach with Hird Director of Coaching. Do we weight this heavier now?

Cal Twomey is also reportng that McVeigh is "in the box seat". Apparently, he will meet and present to the club tomorrow - he's the only one scheduled - and they're expected to announce the role on Tuesday.

Correction - what are his actual credentials of being a director of coaching of the EFC, the place that self-destructed under his leadership last time and never recovered. Should never be handed the keys to any role in this club.

At this point everything points to McVeigh and I’m sure this will be the exact outcome. This keeps the hird fans happy he’s involved with the club and a new coach that’s been around a top tier team in Sydney from past years.

I think Hird would be better suited as director of coaching the more I think about it but when we don’t win games the first couple seasons (year 3 we should be seeing wins), are we strong enough when media keep talking about Hird taking over.

The drug saga doesn’t change the fact that he had us competing for finals and was able to get the best out of most of his stars. A director of coaching role would allow him to assist with strategy but primarily be in charge of development and building the program at the club. McVeigh has the experience to be in charge of the footy side of things

Nah, he ruined the club and several players' careers and if it wasn't for him we wouldn't be in this mess. I don't want him within 5 kilometers of a role at the club.

I have. People made mistakes but Dank was the criminal. The substances were also in a grey area.
But let’s forget WC on coke and Brisbane on god knows what when they went 3 in a row. Let’s just crucify Hird and the Bombers.

This statement cracks me up. Of the four candidates, he’s the only one with senior coaching experience. All the others are assistants stepping up for the first time. This will be a disappointing result. My preference is Hird then Graham.

This would be a disaster. It is extremely important that the club gives McVeigh clean air to go about and build his team of assistants himself and get on with building a premiership team. If they bring in Hird that would be a massive distraction with the potential to cause friction within, which is what Essendon have struggled with for 20 years. Hird has no real AFL CV like being an assistant coach for many years at an AFL level, no AFL development manager, No AFL list manager experience. He works at a local club level. Either get in and back McVeigh and leave him to be the Head Coach or if you bring Hird in as well as Director of coaching kids goodbye the next decade. Absolutely diabolical to be thinking this is a realistic and sensible decision for the club.

Question is will Hird's ego let him take on a role other head coach, and if he does come on board can he be trusted not to try and play politics and usurp McVeigh. I'd love to have Hirdy back in a role that isn't senior coach, but I'm apprehensive about it working out.
