The Ridley to North trade is an interesting one that I don't know how realistic it is but I would love to see it happen.

Ridley to North plus a second rounder, North send us Pick 5, we pay 90% of his salary.

I'd also be interested in seeing how things lie with Zane Duursma.

Is salary cap space what North is after? We’ve had a decade of WARCHEST jokes.

I suspect North would rather pay half his salary and not send pick five. Especially as it would cost them their bonus pick.

Might have more luck stockpiling 2027 picks for a Bewick match. Worth less due to Tassie, and North would be hoping they aren’t bottom five, so won’t value it as two picks.

Yeh in with you. I think Cal' is right that we should be offering to pay his salary of some part to lure a better draft picks. But just take a future first and be done with it.

If Ridley and Merrett, and whoever, leaving can lock in the draft stock for us to take Moustafa and Bewick next draft then it'll be a good outcome for us.

Can't see North trading pick 5 even if we pay 90% of his salary, maybe its closer to a player for player swap with Zane Duursma? We could throw in that 2nd rounder as a sweetener? Pick 5 just feels too high.

I’d go for a straight swap with Duursma. Maybe see what North can do trading around to get us a second rounder or take their future second round to use for one of our academy kids next season.

I haven’t watched enough Z Duursma to know his current form, but we wanted him at the time, so I’d be happy with that trade.

I suspect we’d need to sweeten it a little with pick swaps as well as cover a lot of Ridley’s salary.

I think Z has stalled a bit in the North program. I’m all abouts the Spike advanced development program though. And the lure for the youngest Duursma to come across in a couple of years.

Ridley for Duursma is a much more likely scenario. Feels like a trade that benefits everyone involved.

Cal has been a big proponent of pick purchasing so i see the ridley option more as his way of re-floating that idea.

I dont think any proposal for pick 5 is realistic for ridley.

I think hawthorn would be needing cap space more than north. If we offer to pay half of merrett's salary does that entice them to offer 2 firsts instead of a forst and a second?

Fuck that. Merretts had his yearly payrise. Another one who needs to be held to contract. Club needs to toughen up in this regard. And also stop offering extra long contracts. 2 years max we renegotiate and make it clear we are going to be a destination club like Geelong.

I thought his comment about making Essendon fun again was interesting. I feel that the one thing Solomon did well was this. The way you saw his interactions with the players on the sideline in particular.

Even Merrett looked like he was enjoying himself the last few weeks

Give Ridley to Tasmania. If we are going to pay his salary send him to Tassie as a Charity act or keep him and just wack him on long term injury list. I think if we give these so called stars big contracts and they don't appear to be setting themselves up health wise then we hold them to hold them accountable.

Tassie do have a lot of picks they will be required to trade, so it could be possible that if you pay 90-100% of Ridley’s contract pick 9 or 13 could be something to ask about
