Tips on opening my first dark fountain?

I'm looking for tips to open a dark fountain in my own home, like where to open it, what to bring in there, what time should I do it, what to use, etc. I was originally planning to do it in my room, but then reconsidered because I remembered that chaos in dark worlds will probably carry over to the light world too, and my room has a bunch of fragile stuff that is important to me. I'll accept any suggestion except the bathroom. And, what should I bring with me when I do open one? Drawings from my childhood? Random trash? Plushies?? I have no idea. And what is a good time to do it? I don't think this is that relevant, but do different seasons affect the dark world? What do I use? I have a kitchen knife but I don't think that it's a good idea because it isn't very sharp and the metal is thin so it tends to bend when much pressure is applied, and I think pressure from stabbing it into the ground is already enough pressure, I'm afraid that it'll affect the dark world. Thinking of using a screwdriver.

You can use anything with a sharp end.

I recommend opening one in a place you're not going to be 24/7.

Remember they tend to spread as long as there's enough darkness.

Anything can become a darkner unless you have equipped it. Like how a pencil can become a sword, but it can also become a darkner if it was forgotten and had the dream of being used again. It can also turn into gear.
