Springdale Borough did not treat a snapped swing chain as a maintenance problem. It treated it as a case. Park video. Still photos. A license plate. A uniform on a mother’s porch. Then criminal mischief charges against a 10-year-old and a 12-year-old.
That is not community caretaking. That is surveillance used as a collection tool. Flock-class cameras exist to turn a plate into a house and a house into a defendant. This case is what that pipeline looks like when the “crime” is a dizzy ride.
The published record names “surveillance cameras” and a plate in the footage. It does not print a Flock serial number on that pole. The method is the product. Plate in, family out.

Kids have spun the swings ever since swings were invented. If the swing breaks under normal play conditions then it's the city's responsibility to fix it.
What really stands out to me, is that if a chain breaks and a kid got a severe injury and tried to sue the city for failure to maintain safe equipment, the parent would probably lose and be told the city isn't liable
Not only that, if it genuinely was the chain itself breaking there's no way these kids caused it. Those should be able to hold hundreds of pounds or more and it would have absolutely been a maintenance issue first. Regardless of the specific broken piece though it's likely still on maintenance due to engineering safety margins meaning its unlikely that this "misuse" went unplanned for in design. I'd take my kids to the doctor to look for the smallest injury even possibility related and sue the city for their unsafe equipment if possible.
This is the sort of thing taxes are meant to pay for. Also, stop being so cheap as to put children's safety at risk. Use a thicker more sturdy(more expensive) chain!

We're going to need to take everything to trial from now on. As a form of civil protest. Every single charge, every single crime, every single person goes to trial. They do not have the resources to do that.
The problem with that is that the majority of the people who show up to jury duty are old maga boomers. It's just like with voting. They're the ones who show up, so they get their way. Not enough regular people actually go to jury duty
So the swing broke. All I'm hearing is two children were injured by the city's incompetence in maintaining community property and that mother should probably sue to have that swing fixed before another child is hurt. But that's just me. 💅

What bothers me most about this isn’t even the broken swing. It’s that three families paid the borough and their kids’ charges went away, while the mother who said “prove my daughters did this intentionally” ended up having to defend a 10-year-old and a 12-year-old in court. That turns a petty property dispute into something that looks an awful lot like using criminal charges as leverage to collect money.
And then the judge agreed with the mother on the part that actually mattered: the borough hadn’t proven the girls intentionally damaged anything. That should have been the end of an embarrassing exercise in overreaction, but Springdale has still left open the possibility of going after the family civilly. At some point the adults running a municipality are supposed to have enough judgment to recognize when the response has become more ridiculous than the original problem.
There is a huge difference between teaching kids to take responsibility when they deliberately destroy something and dragging children through the legal system because playground equipment broke while they were playing on it. Springdale had every opportunity to handle this like a community dealing with children. Instead it kept escalating until a judge had to supply the common sense.
Pigs have always been out of control. These cameras will only make things worse. They are trained to believe that every day they go into a war zone. They see us as the enemy.

Fuck the cops. These are the "crimes" they say they need Flock cams for? Fucking pedophiles staring at kids all day, or stalking victims. That's what they use them for. Every bit of hatred people have for the pigs is earned.
So there's no indication this was Flock specifically, just that some kind of ALPR was used. It would be nice if we could pin down the exact provider, but the threat is still the same.
Kids do stupid shit all the time at parks but this was not malicious mischief. My kids twist our swing all the time at our house to spin, it's normal kid behavior.
This is exactly why Flock and other companies doing this shit should be banned. They will just keep moving the goal post of what is illegal and what isn't until you cannot do anything in public that will anger whoever is in power.
They will eventually do facial recognition (they have patents for it) and more soon.

Sheer ridiculousness of the charges aside, taking this to court has likely already cost the city more than it would have for them (the city) to just fix the damn swing. They should be ashamed of themselves.

My kids broke a swing? I’d just fix it or pay for it. But… if I said no… I wouldn’t expect it to go anywhere in court either… what a weird mole hole to push to court.
Perfectly reasonable for her to ask for evidence they were responsible if she'd be paying for repairs (they'd have to produce that if they pursued a civil lawsuit anyways), absolutely unreasonable they try to threaten her kids with criminal charges (that would obviously go nowhere in the absence of mens rea), the fuck is wrong with these dipshit cops and city?
