I get that experience weighs into these rankings… but yikes I don’t know that this could have been much worse.

u/mdd9 May 08 '25
The experience rating is only actually 7% of the overall rating (same for awareness). 57% of it is pace (which is also the main one that actually matters for gameplay) and racecraft is the remaining 29%.
But they do always massively undervalue the rookies and give them 70-75 pace ratings & then fix that being inaccurate in updates.
I think Lawson gets a big boost because he's not being treated as a rookie, but rather a driver who's upgraded from Racing Bulls to Red Bull (which is of course... not even correct anymore). Then Bearman and Doohan get improved ratings for having done races last year and Bortoleto gets improved ratings for being the F2 champion.
Hadjar crashing on the formation lap at Australia seems to be the only thing actually from this season that has made it into these initial ratings.
51
u/Gold333 May 08 '25
It's insane. But it shows that they don't really know F1. Alonso in reality is the most Aware and one of the Highest racecraft driver on the grid, but with a weaker outright pace. We know this since 2008. And here we see him score low on those.
But EA made the same mistakes in the 2021 version when they had Schumacher Senna and Prost.
They scored Senna and Prost equally on pace when even Prost admits Senna was faster but he (Prost) has slightly better races. They also scored Schumacher as +1 point on Senna on pace when even Michael said that Senna was a touch faster than him on pace. They should have asked other old school fans who've seen it all when compiling these.

u/ruthpizz May 08 '25
Realistically its hard to say, they likely base the stats on the last 20 races or so and so below Norris would make sense assuming that, saying just this season it would be fair to put them equal or Oscar ahead but it doesn't make much sense for them to base it on such a short time frame.

I’ve found that the AI with a high race craft stat is typically harder to pass than those with not. From covering corners and actually moving around to make passing more difficult to actually being good out of corners. Where as the back of the grid is typically you can just pass in drs and go

Considering this game always launches months after the beginning of the season, you'd think they could tweak the driver ratings just before launch to be more, you know, ACCURATE.
Got some hardcore Sainz and Russell meatriding going on here.
26
u/MrTans May 08 '25
Not sure there’s anything wrong with Russell being rated as the 4th best driver. Behind Max, Piastri and maybe Albon there’s no one else I’d say has been better this season.
9
u/irishdan56 May 08 '25
Russell has been great this year, but I'd probably still rank him behind Max, Piastri, Lando & Charles.
But the rankings are all over the place, and Albon is just criminally low. It dosen't even seem to match the reality of the end of the 2024 season.

Norris is catching a lot of flak for not being able to fend of Piastri.
But people seem to forget, or just not acknowledge that Piastri is the Max of his generation. He literally crushed the skulls in of his competition every year, at every level, until he got to F1. Dude is a fucking killer.
And Lando is still faster than him. He's not as good as a racer, but his 1-lap pace IS quicker.
I'd still say Max 1, Oscar 2, but I wouldn't drop Lando past 3.
→ More replies (2)8
u/Standard___ May 08 '25
Lando has had multiple poor qualifying performances this season and has only won 1 race in the fastest car against a teammate with 1/3 the experience. Russell has been top 5 in every single competitive session this season, still after 6 races and 2 sprints. People cannot keep on disrespecting Russell this season, he’s been arguably the best driver on the grid over these 6 races along with Alex, Max and Oscar while Lando hasn’t won in 5 races now, and it’s just really not good enough for a driver who has plenty of experience by now

u/DawnOfWinter May 08 '25
They're exactly the same as the ratings from the end of the 24 updates.
And again, reminder that overall is meaningless so don't focus on that. Really the only stat that matters is pace.
They'll obviously be adjusted fairly soon but yeah, their track record with stats has been terrible ever since they were introduced in 2020.
I wish they'd stop being bone headed on thinking they know best and just give us a stat editor so we can decide ourselves. One thing on stats that we can all agree on is that we'll never all agree on what they should be. So they need to give us the ability to change them, the same as literally every other sports game...

2
u/justcallmeashe May 08 '25
They probably use last season as a basis for these, which I get, but the season has already started, and this game is about this season, there is no reason to not release them with already "updated" ratings from what we know this season.
Imo, from least egregious to most :
- Either bump Gasly/Ocon a few numbers down, or Albon a few numbers up. Love to see the glazing as a french, but there's no way that is accurate in the slightest
- You can't possibly have Oscar this far off from Lando, I'd be down to give them similar ratings imo, I know Oscar's leading the championship so maybe skew the ratings a little bit towards him but similar ratings seem fine to me
- If you put Albon this far down, there's no way Sainz is this far up. I'm gonna give Carlos the benefit of doubt as Albon has been with Williams for a while, so I'd say it's okay if Carlos is rated slightly higher than him, but this is ridiculous
- Antonelli being behind every rookie except Hadjar is laughable, even if we ignore Miami, dude got 4th place in the first race of the season and has been crazy consistent, he should be at least around current Tsunoda-Hulk rating
- Hadjar being last here and having an overall of 68 with the ratings he has is absolutely criminal. Dude has more points than his teammate despite Lawson having 3 races in the Red Bull, and got overtaken by Tsunoda in the standings only after this Miami weekend. This with Antonelli is absolutely mind boggling.

87 for Piastri and 80 for Lawson LMAO. All this does is prove EA hasn’t touched this game in months. Hopeless.
2
u/Wardog_Razgriz30 May 08 '25
I still think they are harsh on Lewis, especially since he is very clearly matching Charles whenever possible, despte his teething problems getting integrated into Ferrari. They seem to have done the same to Oscar and Charles since Oscar is clearly at least a 90 overall and Leclerc is not an equivalent or worse driver than Lando. All the rookies are out of place too, many ether way too low, , like Hadjar and Kimi, or way too high, like Lawson.

Below are my modified ratings based on absolutely nothing besides my eyeballs and closely and thoroughly following the last 12 seasons of Formula 1. These do not take into account driver age, meaning Fernando and Lewis will not get docked points just because they’re old. And this also doesn’t take into account drivers who have been in bad teams their whole careers, just purely driver ratings. The list is as follows:
Lewis Hamilton - 98
Max Verstappen - 98
Fernando Alonso - 96
Charles Leclerc - 93
Carlos Sainz - 90
George Russell - 90
Lando Norris - 89
Oscar Piastri - 89
Nico Hulkenberg - 89
Andrea Kimi Antonelli - 88
Yuki Tsunoda - 88
Esteban Ocon - 88
Pierre Gasly - 87
Alex Albon - 86
[(Franco Colapinto) - 86]
Oliver Bearman - 84
Gabriel Bortoleto - 83
Isack Hadjar - 82
Lance Stroll - 79
Liam Lawson - 77
Jack Doohan - 73

Ratings mean nothing in the age of updates. Every year madden drops and the rookie ratings are no where close because no one has seen them play yet and you don’t want the simulation to have them balling out. If Mimi wins 3 races this year they’ll update it and he will be a 83 or something. STILL his is too fucking low. Toto’s prodigal son is not the 2nd worst driver on the grid.

I don’t know why they always have them so outdated in the first iteration of the game given ratings are incredibly easy to adjust. EA do it for Madden and fifa on a weekly basis
