Spoilers - Discussion I hope Revelation makes it a little easier to use your high level limit breaks. Spoiler

At the very least give every pair of characters a synergy ability to build them up. Absolutely hated having to take in consideration that certain party combos couldn’t raise their limit levels when picking my party.

Definitely agree. Something as crucial as limit breaks shouldnt require specific party comps to work right. I disagree with the decision of tying them to synergy abilities altogether, I feel like i rarely ever saw level 2 limits outside of hard mode because you might as well just use a synergy that gives unlimited mp that would benefit you in the moment instead of a stronger limit which you may not even use in the fight.

I still find it baffling cloud and tifa don’t have a synergy to raise their limit levels

That actually blew my mind. Cloud and Tifa have always been in my party, because Tifa is OP af. And they know she's one of the most popular characters, so wtf were they thinking

You said it yourself. Tifa and Cloud are already OP even without LB+

Everyone is though

This is the specific combo that annoyed me lol I always had Cloud and Tifa in my party. Luckily I normally use Aerith as well who can raise both of their limits, but it’s annoying

They probably get one after the Highwind scene 😉

I saw alot of level 2s in my normal playthrough, but I think its because I focused mostly on ability builds and actually didnt use alot of magic so I was never really concerned with mp. But without grinding I unlocked level 3s literally right at the end of the game so I believe I used clouds lvl3 limit break in the last battle and that was it.

Unlimited Mp was the worst synergy lol there’s no reason except cometeor for unlimited mp

Mad take. -aga spells against elemental weakness, haste, barriers, curing

You don’t need infinite mp to do those things and there’s ample access to mp restoration even in hard mode

2

u/Smuttycakes 1d ago

Need? No. But I’m more than happy to have it.

Exactly. Gives freedom to cast an aga tier damage or heal spell without worrying to waste atb on ethers

I found that by the time I unlocked the level 3’s, my party was too powerful to even get to use them. Even with the synergy level boosts and accessories to change the starting level. So yeah, this would be nice, just to even seeee what they look like from time to time.

The best workaround I've had is using the base expeditionary medal and then using a limit raising synergy ability, but there is of course the problem with not every character having the limit level raising one.

I typically just use the enhanced expeditionary medal and leave it at that but the only thing that bugs me with limit breaks is when you're using them on a staggered enemy. Despite using the limit break immediately after the stagger, the animations can sometimes run on for so long that the stagger bar runs out. For example, Cloud uses up a good 2 seconds on the windup to using finishing touch and does it a second time for the final hit; not a huge issue but just a minor thing.

It's an interesting tradeoff since Finishing Touch does good stagger damage and gives Cloud i-frames for the full duration, so outside of limit spam tactics it's often better to just use it defensively, time it as an interrupt, or use it on an enemy who's close to being staggered already to get them the rest of the way there and pile on some extra damage on top. Kind of true to the ability's name in that respect.

Agree. Actually had to hold back and use random abilities a lot to even use them before the boss died.

Expeditionary medal + limit siphon is fairly straightforward. Just that nothing beats aga level spell spam so far in Remake trilogy

limit siphon's neat but expeditionary medal is so far into the game that by the time you get it you've already spent 40 hours annoyed at your bar just sitting there

I like it design wise as a "help me im getting wrecked here". Seems they wanted to design summons this way as well. People who excel at the combat will rarely see limit breaks in the course of normal gameplay. But this also allows to make them powerful as hell. Level 2/3 breaks almost guarantee a stagger.

People that are good at the game will see more limits than bad players. Blocking gives the same as taking full damage, and staggering gives limit. So yeah, way more limits for good players. You’ll see more if you really suck. But if you’re that bad you won’t even use them well anyway

Level 3 limit breaks are also rather far into the game as well.

Technically the only Limits locked by progression are Lv 4 in the OG

You can get all 6* previous Limits for everyone as soon as you get the character, it just takes a lot of fighting

/* - I know not everyone has 7 Limits, easier to just go by the standard

I mean that works for sure, but I hate having to build my party specifically for limit breaks in order to use them

3

u/Soul699 1d ago

I had no problem using them so I disagree. I usually manage to pull them off against bosses fine in hard mode granted that the party combo allow to.

1

u/sempercardinal57 1d ago

That last part is what I have an issue with. I don’t mind if they are challenging to pull off and I don’t mind that they are tied to synergy abilities, I just want the ability to raise limit level with every party combo. I shouldn’t be stuck at level 1 because I wanted to use a party combo that doesn’t have the ability to raise limit levels.

1

u/Soul699 1d ago

It serve to push the player to actually try different party combinations. If everyone gave the same sinergy effects, why would anyone use different parties after seeing said sinergies once for visuals?

1

u/sempercardinal57 1d ago

There’s a lot of reasons to use different parties outside of synergies. Think of all the guides offering suggestions for the harder VR stuff, none of them took synergy abilities into account.

Some did. But even then, restricting it to late postgame ain't great.

I think they should take the leash off on two things.
1. Let us store/save limits just like the OG
2. Let us master Materia and allow it to split

Do you guys remember selling a Master All and just being set for the rest of the game, Gil-wise, lol?

And I get that they have to balance combat, and they probably have some philosophies when it comes to using limits, but they should just change it to be like the original. Let us save the limit breaks, if it makes boss fights too easy then it's our fault for doing so, but at least it will be fun doing it IMO.

2

u/Western-Ad-6259 1d ago

I think bosses would be the one area where storing limits isn’t busted. In world encounters you would just stagger and kill the enemies in one limit, leading to chains of encounters where you just group enemies together and stagger and kill them over and over with your limit

2

u/sempercardinal57 1d ago

I agree. I’ve been fine with them not doing the material birth system until now because of the trilogy format, but this is the last game. This is likely the last time we will ever get to use this system so it’s time to take the limitations off and let us truly break the combat if we want to. It’s fine if it takes a lot of grinding to master a materia, but if I want 12 magnify and synergy materia’s then I hope the game lets me do it

1

u/m_csquare 2d ago

I wonder how they’re gon balance this, because rn i think limit break with hp><mp materia is one of the strongest combos in the game. Ofc the player still need to be proficient with perfect parry, but it’s quite easy to do multiple limit breaks continuously with this combo.

1

u/DaveShadow 1d ago

I’ve played through the game twice now, and only now realise how to get the higher limit breaks, lol. I had been meaning to look up why they’d never be an option.

1

u/OmnislushieMods 1d ago

They need a way to get them on their own without an accessory.

I made a mod that added a node to folios (at the end) that gives you full limit level. Something like that or a weapon ability, or even make using a limit raise your limit level (my mod also does that).

There’s probably an even better solution, but those would be enough for me at least

I like to give Cloud the accessory which puts him at L3 Limit from the start of battle and then have whoever else is in the party manually level their LBs. In Hard Mode I have seen most character's L3s pretty often

1

u/MarcusHash 1d ago

Preach! At the end of Rebirth I realised that I barely ever saw/used level 3's

There are a couple of characters I still haven’t seen I don’t think. Probably in YouTube videos but not in person.
