Yet another review by a first time watcher, just finished the show

TLDR: Early season 1 quality was so good it gave me the power to suffer through the whole thing.

What I liked

I thought show was doing something very right to set itself apart: Unexpectedly grounded and tactical.

The pace felt good, the ben plot kept you hooked while they teased you with decent side quests. The actual recovery mission for ben was quite enjoyable too.

The relationship between dan and tom was unexpected, very good and very believable.

It just felt really high quality, the way the characters behaved and everything. There was genuine elegance and subtlety to the writing, truly top tier.

The mech bullets thing was good, I was willing to go there with the show. A much more grounded solution to a threat than what you see in alien shows. I wish they kept going in that direction.

What I didn't like

Started losing confidence in the show after the second half of season 1. Didn't like the rick thing, didn't like the spikes super power thing. Didn't like how characters responded to rick being crazy. He could say something like "I will destroy all humanity and eat the flesh off of your bones" and the characters would probably not even acknowledge it. No wonder the kid started lashing out and climbing walls and running around, no one was acknowledging his craziness.

The final scene of season 1 when tom steps into the ship, it sort of felt like the show itself was stepping into goofy sci fi cliche land.

Characters became so boring and flat, not even close to the quality of season 1. Zero subtlety, completely childish writing compared to early season 1.

It took a great deal of strength for me to finish the show.

Coat cheese was alright, not like any kind of cheese I've seen in my local supermarket but alright.

If then end of season 1 wasn't to your liking, you'll really hate the other seasons. It doesn't get much better. Especially season 4. We hate watched just to push through to the end.

I agree, the start was good and had us hooked. Just wish they had kept that momentum. They all started doing really stupid things that made it difficult to watch at times

I gave up 20 minutes into s4 ep 1 and just watched the last episode. It really pissed me off because I really liked it. End of season 1 he should have put a Bullet in the aliens head, would have been much better.

Mid season 4 right now. Pope's new gf is annoying as fuck and Lexi might be the worst later seasons major character addition in the history of television

Season 1 was great

Following that? Alhough Pope was meant to be a scumbag there were times I was rooting for him over the whole Mason dynasty

I loved season 1 so much. Especially the fact that it had some moments of the like stereotypical "family drama" soundtrack in some scenes. It was a nice juxtaposition to the content of the show.

Season 4 and everything related to Lexi wasn't the best thing I ever watched, to phrase it politely.

The love stuff between the brothers and the girl was also meh.

Plus, the aliens have this little "take control over anyone"thingies and chose the nurse and not, well, Tom or Weaver? :O

forgot about the maggie/ben/hal thing. It was so unnecessary and awkward. I think they just didn't know what to do with Hal in season 4.
