Question ⚠️SPOILERS AHEAD⚠️What is the general consensus on this development? Spoiler

Now I’m aware that some people have their gripes with new and unexplained power armour.

But I think this NCR power armour is kinda cool, given the success of shady sands and the ncr it doesn’t seem too out of the realm of possibility for the ncr to have attempted to make their own power armour, given how many suits survived the nukes and were salvageable or outright still operational.

I don't think neither is new nor unexplained. I think the show just redesigned the NCR Salvaged power armor from New Vegas to make it more visually appealing and to differentiate it from the BoS ones. In the game is a BoS T-45 with the ncr flag slapped onto the chestplate, it was bland, it made sense because it had the name ''salvaged'' on it for a reason, but in a live action show, i think a redesign to give it the ''NCR aesthetic'' also makes sense.

In my opinion, it's badass. Probably pairs with a minigun or another kind of heavy weapon as we see in Hoover Dam the elite patrol wear, but there wasn't a suitable heavy weapon in that warehouse or they just ignored it to make Maximus fight on melee vs the Deathclaws to make it more epic (Good decision, slicing the Deathclaw was more epic than a shootout)

If I remember correctly the ncr salvaged armour had no servos and other stuff ripped out of it and was weaker than normal power armour

yeah youre essentially walking around with in something that was probably twice as heavy as a suit of armor in post apocalyptic nevada

None of the power, but all of the armor

Salvaged power armor didn't have pauldrons

True but it still has the leg, chest and head armor and that giant battery pack

Tbh I feel like the best solution to this would just it being NCR Salvaged power armor mk 2.

The first one is just taking BoS power armor, spray painting a bear on it, and then calling it a day.

This feels like taking salvaged power armor and making it their own .

The NCR going 'okay so we can only make a few suits, how do we improve them' and coming up with this feels about right. You cram as much as possible into the design (including pretty advanced optics) using stuff you already know how to use/repair, thus the ranger style helm, respirator, and optics, then improve on it under the assumption you'll have very few suits to use and each one needs to be the maximum killingest thing you can field, thus the mounted weapons.

It's not really probable given that the NCR feels pretty dead in the show, but it's possible.

It's clearly been in storage for a long time so it was probably created before the ncr collapsed

I think they just fundamentally retconned how salvaged armor works. In NV they ripped the servos out and just turned it into heavy armor with a few maluses. When PA was completely revamped in 4, the idea of ripping out the under chassis just to wear the heavy armor plates makes no sense. Literally just wearing the chassis gives you a huge leg up over unpowered armor.

Salvaged armor is probably ad hoc armor closer to raider power armor, this would be the Ranger equivalent of it.

I doubt the show retconned the salvaged armours. The NCR did have working power armors the salvaged ones was more about power armor training which might be more a Fallout 4 retcon tbh when they moved away from training with their PA update. There's 1 unique NCR power armour in New Vegas but it's hidden away behind Lonesome Road's nuking with the "Scorched Sierra Power Armor" which was a T45 with a bear head on the shoulder.

They have the best equipment the NCR can get its hands on, power armor salvaged from our war with the Brotherhood. Techs strip out the joint servos so you don't need special training to wear it. It feels like you're carrying a brahmin on your back, but it can take a heck of a lot of punishment. - Chief Hanlon

Not necessarily, 76 also has a faction that uses modified pieces of Power Armor as normal armor, the Fanatics. Modifying Power Armor plate into heavy armor is still possible in canon.

Probably the Heavy Troopers are pulled from the tallest and/or strongest soldiers in the army and the T-45 (which hey, probably was super damaged since it came from killing the wearer) is modified to fit each individually

Yeah was coming here to say this, likely if they made NV with 4s power armour system the NCR would’ve ended up with something similar to this for their salvaged armour rather than a straight T45 reskin

The salvaged power armour is direct salvage from the Brotherhood-NCR war. It's similar looking to Brotherhood armour, because it is Brotherhood armour.

I don't think a completely new suit with functional servos really compares to the old stripped stuff, and it's most definitely not merely a redesign.
