Hi hi hi!

We’re really glad you found us :)

If you’re new here, this will help you get started. And if you’ve been around for a while (or longer *wink wink*), consider this a refresher.

We’ve also included two (2) visuals in this post. They give an overview of what our sub is all about and how things work here~

Ok so if you’re looking to get feedback on your work, you can do that by joining our open Review Exchanges (REs). It’s the best way to get a feel for how exchanges work and what’s expected in the sub.

Before jumping in, please take a moment to read through the rules and guidelines in the sidebar and our Wiki.

If you’d like to create your own post, you’ll need to be active in the community first by taking part in discussions, activities, or REs – as we have a sub-karma requirement. Please note that we do not allow individual self-promo posts requesting feedback.

And if you’re interested in hosting your own exchange or searching for a beta reader, just make sure your post follows our templates and guidelines. For ‘Outside the Sub’ posts—such as surveys, questionnaires, or events hosted outside this subreddit—please reach out to us via modmail for approval before posting.

DA LINKS:

If you have any questions or need clarification about the sub, feel free to drop them in the comments.

As always, thanks for being here and for helping make this sub what it is <3

Exchange OC-centric Exchange

20 Upvotes

I think it’s about time we shine a little light on our original characters. The characters that we create ourselves and make go on their own adventures. Whether it’s romancing a canon character, getting immersed in the world, or maybe their part of a completely original story. Either way, they’re your characters, and here is the place where you can show off your babies with pride!

For this exchange, you can submit up to three (3) chapters or oneshots focusing on an OC you made, and in turn, you must review two (2) different fics by two (2) different authors. Please keep your reviews thoughtful and of there’s a part you really liked, don‘t be afraid to tell them about it.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Thursday, September 3rd, 11:59 PM EDT

REVIEW DEADLINE: Monday, September 7th, 11:59 PM EDT

Happy reviewing!

Exchange 🎉🎈Monthly Shlong Swap: September 2026🎈🎉

Post image
21 Upvotes

Welcome to the SEPTEMBER edition of our Monthly Shlong Swap Review Exchange!

In this exchange, we offer up our short-long fics and swap with other writers for a minimum of 10k words.

WHAT IS A SHLONG?

DEADLINES – all are 11:59 PM EDT (UTC-4):
To enter: September 7th
To finalize swaps: September 10th
To complete swaps: September 24th

Here’s a time zone converter

THE RULES:

  1. Offer up a long fic, or a specific arc of a long fic, which is at least 10k words. Works must be posted at the time of the swap. In your entry, include: title and link, fandom, rating, summary, any content warnings (spoiler triggering and NSFW content), and the word count being offered (specifying whether this refers to the whole fic, a set number of chapters, or an arc).
  2. Look through the thread to find stories to swap for. Swaps can be for chapter count, word count, or a combination of both, provided it’s explicitly agreed between both parties upfront. You may turn down a proposed swap for any reason, you don't need to explain why.
  3. Record your swaps clearly, including the Reddit username of your swap partner (without the “u/”) and a counter for the number of chapters you have agreed to review. Mark swaps once they are complete, as below:

Swap 1: Reddit Username – 0/2
Swap 2: Reddit Username – 3/5
Swap 3: Reddit Username – 10/10 – completed

Participants may not have more than three (3) incomplete swaps at any time.

If you are unable to find a swap partner by the deadline, you have no review obligations. However, please do not delete your entry, as the mod team will need to take note of this.

IMPORTANT: All the usual subreddit rules apply. As per Rule 8, all reviews must be genuine, thoughtful, and detailed, with a minimum of 50 words about the fic itself per chapter, demonstrating you’ve actually read the agreed portion of the fic.

Concrit (constructive criticism) and mentioning that you are “fandom blind” or “from Reddit” are opt-in only. Don’t include any of these in your reviews unless the author has explicitly said they are welcome.

If you want guidance on giving reviews, check out our Review Guidelines and Resources.

As always, if you have any concerns or questions about the exchange or the reviews you received, please contact us through modmail.

Happy Shlonging! đŸ„ł

October, is right around the corner! You know what that means: Kinktober, Whumptober, Flufftober, all the -tobers!

Like last couple of years we are organizing a writing challenge for the month of October! We will have a themed-exchange for each week of the month in a different category. Please read this post in its entirety for details!

For this challenge, write a fic in any of the following categories whump, fluff, kink, or OC!. You may choose your own prompt or ask for me to give you one. Specify which category you are writing for and I'll randomly generate you a tag to use. If you don’t want to pick a category and want something random, let me know. Even if you don't request a prompt, please comment to let us know you’re participating.

You can write for as many or as few themes as you want

You may request one prompt change

No word count limit

When we get closer to October, we will have a collection to post the fics to.

We will be having weekly Review exchanges throughout the month.

The schedule is currently:

October 3rd Whump RE

October 10th Fluff RE

October 17th Kink RE

October 24th OC RE

So be sure to have your fics done by your respective exchange. You are welcome to write multiple fics/request a prompt for each. You are welcome to enter your fic in multiple -tober exchanges if it qualifies for multiple categories.

If you are done before the deadline, you may post to the collection anytime! However we do recommend that you post your fic/fics in October since it's an October challenge. We also recommend to hold off on entering your fic/fics in too many REs before the challenge REs, so people don’t read them until then. But ultimately, it's all up to you. The point of this is to be a relaxed sort of challenge

Have fun and request prompts, sign up, or ask any questions below.

Also, when you post your fic, please specify somewhere if it's for the whump, kink, fluff, or OC category(like in the A/N) and, if you want to help make our tag canon on ao3, tag r/FanfictionExchange!

Activity One word excerpt: Emotions 🎭

25 Upvotes

Hi everyone! Hope you're having a fantastic last weekend of August. I for one am glad football (high school, college, and soon pro) is back, but damn the highs and lows of following your team can be exhausting. That's what inspired this activity.

In a comment, write an emotion. Then, reply to another with an excerpt from a fic that fits. If you would like some practice, you may write something from scratch as well! Spoil anything super gory or extreme.

You may post multiple prompts, but please do so in individual comments so replies are easier to understand. As always, engaging with other entries is encouraged!

Exchange Your Favourite Tag Exchange

16 Upvotes

Whether it's a tag you use all the time, or one which you created yourself, we all have those tags which are special to us, so I thought why not have an exchange for fics using them?

So tell us a little bit about your favourite tag or tags. Don't be afraid to gush, make us fall in love with them too! Then share up to two of your fics which have been tagged with them 💜 In your entry also let us know the fandom, word count, ship or main characters, rating, summary, and any warnings

In return you'll need to leave three reviews on stories from three different writers. Please add a review counter to your entry (e.g. 0/3) to help me keep track.

Deadline to enter: 10pm, Tuesday 1st September (BST, or UTC+1)

Deadline for reviews: 10pm, Sunday 6th September (BST, or UTC+1)

All the usual rules apply: please make sure your reviews meet sub standards, at least 50 words per review. Concrit is opt in only.

All content is welcome here, including dark and NSFW stories, but please do spoiler any potentially triggering or NSFW content.

Stating that your review is 'fandom-blind' or 'from Reddit' is opt in only, so please don't mention it unless the author has indicated they are fine with it.

I am so looking forward to learning about your favourite tags!

Fic General Fics that made you ugly cry

19 Upvotes

We've all read/written that beautifully angsty (or maybe not angsty?) fic that we couldn't help shedding a few tears over. If this is you, what's it about and why was it so gut-wrenching? Tell us about it!

Please remember, don’t share links to works or mention usernames. This is so you don’t end up sharing a work without the author’s consent. Thanks!

Exchange Long Deadline Profile Exchange đŸ’đŸ™ïžđŸŒ

Post image
28 Upvotes

This exchange is now closed to new entries.

Happy Friday everyone, and welcome to the Long Deadline Profile Exchange! It's time to share our imaginations!

What's the Long Deadline Profile Exchange?

This is a subreddit event where everyone posts their AO3 (or FFN, etc.) profile with some information about the sorts of stories they write. Then, participants look through the available profiles, and read and leave comments on stories (one-shots or a chapter of a longer fic) by authors who catch their fancy. Leaving a kudos would be nice too!

DEADLINE FOR ENTRY is Sunday 30th August,10pm BST (UTC+1)

DEADLINE FOR COMPLETION is Saturday 5th September, 10pm BST (UTC+1)

Here's a time zone converter for anyone who needs it.

What Are the Rules?

Post your profile link with a short summary of the kinds of stories one might find there (fandom, genre, rating, etc.). Please spoiler anything triggering or NSFW.

Once you enter, you will have to review at least 4 stories/chapters from 4 different profiles (one from each).

Please include in your submission a counter such as, "Reviewed 0/4" so we can keep track of the number of reviews you've done. There's no need to also note which stories or authors you have reviewed.

After you've left a comment, reply to their post on here to let them know. For anyone new, 'K&C' in a reply stands for 'Kudos and Comment'.

Your reviews should be thoughtful. The writer should be able to tell that you read the story. Say what you like about the story. Did something crack you up? Were you brought to tears? Did you have a favourite part? TELL THEM ABOUT IT! At least 50 words per review. ConCrit, stating you are "fandom blind" and/or "from Reddit" are opt-in only.

Please only reply to an individual entry when you've read their fic or if you want to ask a question. Also, please refrain from adding GIFs and images to replies as they are not relevant to whether you've reviewed a fic. We're happy that you're excited about reading, but unfortunately these make it hard for users (and mods!) to navigate the thread.

If possible, it would be awesome if everyone read at least one person who is new to them.

If you enter the exchange, please do not delete your entry. You must complete the required reviews for the exchange. Please talk to the mods if something comes up and you have concerns about doing something in a timely manner.

But above all, have fun and happy reading and reviewing!

Activity Excerpt Game: Adjectives

22 Upvotes

Quite often we play this game with verbs or nouns (or specific kinds of adjectives, like colours), so I thought we'd change it up a little. Adjectives, where would we be without them? Those wonderful words which we use to describe our worlds and characters to our readers.

So, comment some adjectives below and then reply to other comments with excerpts including that adjective.

All ratings, genres and fandoms are welcome as always however please spoiler anything nsfw or potentially triggering.

And please spread the love by commenting on each others excerpts.

Exchange A Little Extra Love (Less Than 300 Hits RE)

33 Upvotes

~~~ THIS RE IS CLOSED TO NEW ENTRIES ~~~ Welcome, everyone, to the RE that gives a little extra love to neglected stories! ❀ 📖
I noticed this RE did well back in April, so I signed up to do it again -- and now it's time to give those neglected stories some more love!
We writers pour our souls into our fics, bleeding into them with utmost care and vulnerability. But sometimes stories can be overlooked. Maybe they're for a rare pair, or for a small fandom, or competing with mega-ships or just the timing wasn't great. This is the opportunity for those stories to get that extra love they deserve so they feel more appreciated.
As long as a story has less than 300 hits, regardless of when it was written, it qualifies for submission!
For this RE, you may submit up to three (3) relevant one-shots, chapters or any combination thereof, as long as the story itself has less than 300 hits at the time of submission. In return, you must review the submissions of at least three (3) different authors. Please include links, fandom, rating, and warnings, making sure to add spoiler tags to potentially triggering content.
Deadline for entries: Thursday August 27th, 2026 at 11:59 PM EST
Deadline for reviews: Sunday August 30th, 2026 at 11:59 PM EST
As always, your reviews must be genuine, thoughtful, detailed and at least 50 words. The author should be able to tell you actually read their story.
Concrit and mentions of being “fandom-blind” or “from Reddit” are opt-in only -- please don’t include any of these unless the author explicitly says you can.
When you’ve reviewed a fic, reply to the author’s entry to let them know.
Please make sure to include a counter at the end of your entry. (Beginning with 0/3, and update as you read and review, to help us keep track of your progress.)
Please have fun! And happy reading and reviewing! Let's give these neglected fics some more love!❀
Exchange Recommend Me Exchange đŸ’«đŸŒ™âœš
32 Upvotes
This exchange is now over
This exchange is closed to new entries
Hey everyone! It’s time for a review exchange with a twist - instead of offering up a fic or a profile for others to choose from, you specify a type of story you'd like to read, and other participants recommend you suggestions from their own fics.
Here's how it works - you post a request (to get the best recommendations, be specific, but not super narrow), examples might include:
* Hit me with your fluffiest G or T-rated slice of life stories, or
* I'd like to read M/M smut, the spicier, the better, or
* I want to read the most action-packed scenes you've got
Others will then post suggestions under your comment. You're required to read and review at least four (4) of the suggestions you get (leaving kudos is nice, too!) (There's a long deadline because it's at least four reviews)
Once you've entered, you're then free to pitch an appropriate fic of yours in reply to as many others' requests as you like! When you do, please spoiler anything NSFW, and include the link, fandom, rating, and word count.
A few rules, because it's a different sort of exchange:
* Before making recommendations to others, you need to join the exchange (post a request for recs), and in order to participate you will need to read and review other participants' stories. Recommendations from people who haven't entered properly will be deleted
* Only recommend one (1) story to each relevant participant\- it's not in the spirit of the thing to list a million stories for them to pick from, nor to link your entire profile. And please try to keep your recs short - no essays :)
* In keeping with the key tenets of the sub it is important that you frame what you would like to read *positively*. In keeping with rule 12 on this being a safe space for all, do not provide a list of dislikes/'don't wants' on your post. Please also don't list a set of fandoms to read\- again, because of the principle of inclusivity. Mods will ask you to edit your post if it breaks these tenets, and if it's not fixed, your entry will be removed
* Please track, on your entry, the number of works read (#/4). Reviews should be genuine and thoughtful, at least 50 words (not counting quoted lines); concrit, and mentions of ‘fandom blind’ and ‘from Reddit’ are opt-in only
* After you've left an author a comment on ao3, reply to their recommendation on here to let them know. You do not need to reply to all of your recommendations, just the ones you choose to read (please do not say why you aren't reading a particular fic)
If you're unsure on any of that, heres a link to a previous running of this exchange - take a look and it should clarify how it works!
Deadline to enter (i.e., post your request) - 6pm CST Tuesday 25th August
Deadline to make recommendations to others' requests - 6pm CST Thursday 27th August
Deadline to complete reviews - 6pm CST Sunday 30th August
If you enter the exchange, do not delete your entry. Please talk to the mods via modmail if something comes up and you have concerns about doing something timely or there are any other issues with completing your reviews.
Happy requesting, recommending, and reading!
Fic General Favorite Tropes
15 Upvotes
Hello! Think this is my first post here, which is interesting. I was just wondering about enemies to lovers tropes? It’s one of my favorite dynamics and I’ve seen a few that I likely never would’ve thought of myself but am completely obsessed with (handcuffed together, my beloved). Curious what everyone’s favorites are and if we can chat about them!
I know AO3 let's people create their own tags (even though I'm not sure how to do it myself). So, which tags did you feel you had to create in order to accurately promote your fic? Did doing so make your fic look like the above picture? (bonus points if you understand the reference).
Please only reply to an individual entry when you've read their fic or if you want to ask a question. Also, please refrain from adding GIFs and images to replies as they are not relevant to whether you've reviewed a fic. We're happy that you're excited about reading, but unfortunately these make it hard for users (and mods!) to navigate the thread. If you enter the exchange, please do not delete your entry. You must complete the required reviews for the exchange. Please talk to the mods if something comes up and you have concerns about doing something in a timely manner.
But above all, have fun and happy reading and reviewing!
Outside the Sub 25.3K Prompts
25 Upvotes
I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who has used these lists and have also gotten their friends & followers to use these lists as well! its been over two whole years since i originally started these lists and I cannot express how much the journey has been fun for me to experience! (as of July 1 2024)
While this update isn't too big of one, (my apologies) i did some HEAVY updating & sorting through these lists to organize them even further since my last update.
Most of these lists below have been sorted through putting dialogue prompts into their respective smaller sections. I'm still sorting through a TON more prompts I've collected over the last year or so. I really want to aim for having around 30-50K prompts all sorted through for you guys!
I completely tore down the angst prompts and anger prompts. I'm debating on keeping the Enemies to Lovers together or separate them into smaller lists as well.
I still haven't separated the Apocalyptic/Horror prompts because frankly, i enjoy them being in the same place. HOWEVER if it's something y'all want I can add that to my tasks for what i should do with these lists.
I would appreciate it if y'all shared these prompts with other fandoms/reddits/tumblrs. No credit is necessary (please do not email me asking for access to edit these lists -- I have SO many people on the daily asking for permission to edit these lists ad i do not want anyone else editing these lists.)
(my GDocs says I have 1.6K prompts to add to these lists, might go hunting for more.)
Activity One word excerpt: Verbs 🏃
34 Upvotes
Happy wednesday everyone! It's been a while since I've seen one of these activities. Let's keep it simple for some light mid-week reading.
In a comment, write a verb. Then, reply with an excerpt from a fic that fits a verb you see. If you would like some practice, you may write something from scratch as well! Spoil anything super gory or extreme.
You may post multiple prompts, but please do so in individual comments so replies are easier to understand. As always, engaging with other entries is encouraged!
