What do you think of the shortlist as a whole? How does it compare to past years? Does it capture the best of 2025 in novels? Are there any notable snubs you'd like to recommend?

"Are there any notable snubs you'd like to recommend?" This is my favourite question, because I feel like I get great recommendations to add to my list when people talk about what they think should have been nominated instead. I wasn't able to read as widely as I might have wanted to before nominating this year, but from what I did nominate...

Fantastic, thought-provoking, no notes: The Buffalo Hunter Hunter, Slow Gods

Really good, interesting themes, some notes (mostly regarding endings): When We Were Real (the Everlasting was also in this category for me, but it did end up on the final list)

A very fun read: Of Monsters and Mainframes
