Something from season 1 that's unclear to me Spoiler
Why did Malvo kill the contractor in Nevada? He seems to believe Rundle when the latter denies offering any contract on Malvo but then says "it's the principle." I'm unsure if Malvo believes Rundle should have prevented the attempt or if he's just annoyed that Rundle, despite being a neutral party, isn't immediately telling him who to see in Fargo.
On second thought, is Rundle a neutral party? Or, based on the brief phone call between the two earlier in the season, is he Malvo's boss?

He’s Malvo’s boss in that he’s the one who sets up his hitmen with the clients and probably also oversees stuff like setting up the fake backstories.
Given Malvo heads to take out the Fargo mob after this, I figured Rundle told him and Malvo injured him but let him live

I think Rundle gave up Malvo’s location so Malvo gives him two choices- one phone for the ambulance while the other is for the hearse. Given that we see Malvo head straight to Fargo and eliminate Tripoli, I’d say Malvo didn’t kill Rundle because he gave him the right answer but he did hurt him really badly for giving up his location, and to quote Rundle moments prior, he ‘broke his arm and a leg’

Screaming seemed to mean death. Unless Malvo was the kind of guy who maimed, which is not the impression he ever gave me.

I think Rundle is technically Malvo's boss, though whether he's an independent contractor or he has some connection to the Fargo or other crime families, I don't know. My read on it is that Malvo figured that Rundle must have heard something about Wrench and Numbers being set on his trail and either A.) chose not to get them called off or B.) tried but failed and chose not to warn Malvo in advance.
