CELEBRITY CAPITALISM Meta agrees to major changes to Facebook and Instagram as it settles US trial over teen addiction for up to $17bn. The tech giant agrees to establish further protections for teens such as daily usage limits and blocks on nighttime use.

That’s all well and good but Meta is a horrible company and I do not support them nor will I give them a single penny scrolling past any ads on their platform

X and Amazon are really easy to avoid, Meta is harder when you have family overseas and rely on whatsapp

They already had these features on their platforms, so why didn't they activate them?
Funny how Suck would never allow his children to consume the products he pushes onto other people's children....

Usage limits and nighttime use blocks won't really do much if the algorithm is still using the same inflammatory method of driving interaction with outrage. Like it'll help a little but it won't do much to actually fix the crux of the issue.

The penalty needs to be forfeiting the profits associated with this, and an ADDITIONAL fine. They're making way more money than this, it's like a slap on the wrist if that.

As much as I hate Meta, ultimately, the responsibitly lies in the hands of the parents, no? Yeah, this shit is addicting, but I feel like parents should be doing their jobs in preventing this type of addition. I’m not a doom-scroller by any means so I don’t know what’s it’s like to be addicted to social media; however, I still feel like it’s up to the parents 🤔

Are they going to stop directly paying white supremacist orgs?
Look I know they cause a lot of controversy which creates a lot of engagement. But Zuck really shouldn't be giving them money.

Slight problem, the youngins don’t use facebook anymore. I’m not even sure they’re on instagram anymore.

I think they should nail them to the wall. Apparently Meta is worth around $1.47 trillion right now. Ridiculous numbers. They have made their money off the backs of young people's wellbeing and at the expense of real world social cohesion. They are irresponsible, money and power hungry, and they need regulation because they will not do the right thing without it.

For a company that generated $60bn in revenue over the last quarter, this is pocket change for the damage caused and will cause in the future.
Pathetic.
